What this piece of Russian propaganda doesn't address is that the countries that were freed after the collapse of the Soviet Union sought to make friends with more powerful countries, seeking alliances that would have prevented their invasion and occupation in the first place. They did not want to return to the old ways again.

I've heard Russia being compared to a violent ex.
Basically after their break up, Russia gets angry when ever their ex's gets into new relationships. In Ukraine's case, they're gaslighting and beating them for suggesting it. "You made me invade you. Why did you make me hurt you? We were so good together. Don't you remember the good times?"

Also look at post WE II history; USSR accumulated Poland, Czhecklosavia and Hungary between 1939 and 1945. They invaded these countries, inflicted their system on all of them and never left. They weren’t sorry to see them finally leave in 1990’s.

I can’t think of a better answer of why all of these countries have signed up with NATO. There is no reason to trust the Russians since they are liars and the invaders.

He pulled out of Syria for him and retreated American participation in areas that Russia wanted to influence. With this retoric of the last year concerning Trump and sore loser position of losing a US election, Trump still tries to hold on to power, still confuses the republican response, makes it look like America is at a verbal civil war, which has allowed Putin to take advantage of the vaccum of confusion.

Mod was correct, Russian took control of all those countries starting with them taking half of Poland in 1939, the rest in 1945. Czechoslovakia and Hungary were both taken over in 1945. 1958 and 1968 refer to unsuccessful attempts to throw off the yoke where the Russians sent in additional troops to regain control.

Thank you for that update. I was only aware of the follow up invasions, and not the initial events during WW2.

But we have to keep in mind that the Russians had lost through German savagery over 27 millions people due to fighting and the killing of civilians (almost half the death toll of WWll without counting illness and malnutrition). The war on the eastern front has had the reputation to have been more extreme than the western front. It doesn't excuse their behaviour at the time but explains it to a certain extent.

More that 30 million Russians died due to Stalin. He killed many more of his own people than the Germans, with manufactured famine, purges, mass executions and on and on and yet they buried him like a hero.

I follow 23 news apps from ABC Australia to Swiss plus ....from Daily mail to Al Jazeera through The Economist and Wall Street journal ... As well as Le Monde to LaPresse through RTBF and Le Canard enchaîné. Use to keep an eye on RT Tv but it was never critical of Putin policies being a state controlled network so I stopped ... Pravda used to be useful .

Simple if there is a fact checking team with honorable editors ....if those are missing you are in a world of constant retractions , misinformation or people doubling down on their point of view or picking and choosing their facts to win a argument or make their view stands .

Opinion journalism is just an opinion to me and not the view of a paper or agency as a whole , unless being pushed across the entire group or network. As long as someone knows about historical events going back a few hundred years to understand the cultural and social forces during events I do pay attention , without that understanding or knowledge of full facts involved in a certain event or decision.... I don't pay much attention specially newcomers that blare ideas just to make a name for themselves from their house basement or entertainment networks i.e. no full fact checking or knowledge. I related this to Ukraine because the mainstream news has been blatantly inaccurate in their reporting. So when I see a video of Ukraine/Russia I question how accurate it is. There is no way that they are reporting accurately now. There must be some discrepancies.

I’m a strong believer in getting info from the initial video source and hearing the person say it versus hearing a network quote them. Sadly, a popular source has been TikTok simply because it’s people on the front lines posting videos.
Freedom convoy in Canada was an example of how corrupt the mainstream news is. Mainstream news shows a picture of a guy holding a Swastika flag but doesn’t show the video of the people around telling him to leave. Another example; mainstream news showing the people protesting mandates but don’t show the old lady trampled by a horse.

I related this to Ukraine because the mainstream news has been blatantly inaccurate in their reporting. So when I see a video of Ukraine/Russia I question how accurate it is. There is no way that they are reporting accurately now. There must be some discrepancies.

Maybe you better head over to the front line in Ukrainian and send back personal reports.
