You know Americans flying A-10 could defect to Ukraine.
Somehow the mechanics made it to the Ukaine too. Not to metioned several tankers refueling them in midair to get across the Atlantic/north pole. Like minded people doing the same thing for the common goal of peace in our lifetimes.... Ever heard that before....
I seriously doubt any Air Force pilots are just going to jump in their A-10s and fly off to Ukraine.

Hilarious... good to know we have a Russian history/literature major running the Finance department... Putin flosses his teeth with people like Chrystia Freeland
To make policy you don't have to be a finance guru... the department has the experts. the experts are not policy makers. Yup she is a fiqure head... Head of the Finance Department and its boss. The boss dosen't do all the heavy lifting...

Russia's stock market was closed Monday to avoid a total collapse. The ruble is the lowest it's ever been, massive lineups at banks and they are running out of foreign currency as everyone with a brain tries to get hard currency instead of rubles under their mattress. Peace talks start, with Russia taking them so seriously as to send their Minister of Culture instead of anyone from Defense or Foreign Affairs.

John Oliver did a great takedown of Putin this weekend. Well worth a look.

Meanwhile thousands of Russians are arrested for demonstrating against the war, and tens of thousands more keep demonstrating and don't care. Facebook id'ed and stopped 2 major disinformation groups targeting the Ukraine and Russia over the weekend. They are publishing ridiculous nonsense, like Ukrainian Military killing children and the Russian patriots trying to stop them etc. It's absolutely insane. Rather than dial down the rhetoric, Putin decides to order the nuclear forces to high alert, because you know, a nuke is the best answer he's got, apparently.

There's a group of of them over there, led by Putin, who are in dire need of a firing squad. A coup would be a miracle at this point.
The link to John Oliver?
And Hitler didn't do shit like that too? Ridiculous nonsense.
To add another factor, Trump irresponibility toward Russia and Putin. You can look back and see how Trump drooled over Putin. He pulled out of Syria for him and retreated American participation in areas that Russia wanted to influence. With this retoric of the last year concerning Trump and sore loser position of losing a US election, Trump still tries to hold on to power, still confuses the republican response, makes it look like America is at a verbal civil war, which has allowed Putin to take advantage of the vaccum of confusion.

I heard on the radio this morning that Canada was sending non-lethal supplies; helmets, body amour and so on.
Heard that Canada was sending non-lethal and lethal supplies (ammunition, etc.). They are sending off some Carl Gustav recoiless 'rifles', hopefully the more modern versions.

Well Switzerland is no longer neutral and is siding with Europe and Ukraine. They were neutral for both WWI and WWII. They were neutral for over 200 years and this event changed that. Think about that.

Also glad that Justin Trudeau is sending anti-tank weapons and banning Russian oil imports. Quite proud to be a Canadian right now.
Can someone explain why Canada. A country flush with oil is importing oil?!

It’s interesting that though the UK, US and others are not sending any troops to the Ukraine.
I would love to see a sky full of A10s and Apaches over Ukraine but NATO cannot directly confront Russia or there will be WW3.
Ukraine is getting massive intel and advice from NATO. Every square centimetre is under satellite scrutiny.

Canada/US/almost every other NATO country have had operational mentors in Ukraine for years. A few countries have low-key told citizens they are free to go as private citizens.

Canada has sent a lot of lethal aid as well as that posted here.

As a side note. Interesting on why the boat gets pulled over. Note the date Wednesday.

Again dates when videos were posted. Seems people knew things were happening in advance. Interesting about the sanctions. One thing about the santions is the employees that won't get paid due to freeze on funds etc.

Certain refineries can only refine lighter oils which the West can not always provide. Those refineries have then to go to open market to get their supplies.
The experts in that field have been asking Alberta to refine the WCS to a WTI level for years to no avail.

This was forwarded to me;

Until 1990: NATO had 16 members

Russia: Don't expand further

America: Okay we will not expand (verbally, not written)

1999: Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic joined NATO

Russia: But you said you won't expand!
America: Where is the written document, so

jack off

2004: Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia joined NATO

Russia: But you said you won't expand!
America: Where is the written document, so jack off

2009: Albania and Croatia joined NATO

Russia: But you said you won't expand

America: Where is the written document, so jack off

2017: Montenegro and North Macedonia joined NATO

Russia: But you said you won't expand!
America: Where is the written document, so

jack off

2021: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia and
Ukraine will join

Russia: Enough is enough, you are betraying us ever since 1990s, if we allow you, you will deploy missiles on our borders.

World: Russia is so aggressive, they are evil, they don't think about humanity, Russia is expanding. Putin is being unreasonable......

Hypocrite western world

So is Putin invading Ukraine or securing his nation? Where is Putin wrong?

The crux of the Global problem is USA

To be more specific, The Problem is American Democrats and their Arms, Pharma, Oil lobby...

Absolutely enormous landmass, and lacking infrastructure, pipelines to move it around the country and process it etc. Look at a pipeline map of the US, and compare that with Canada. Any attempt to build the infrastructure we need is met with fierce resistance by environmentalists and other groups.

Let's not forget a lot of the anti-oil campaigns are funded by the US, one of the worlds largest oil producers, who has a vested interest in Canada not competing in the market. I'm all for saving the environment but not so much for being taken advantage of... even the oil we do sell, the Americans buy for below market rates as we just can't enough out to other markets. As mentioned above, this could be a whole other thread.

Simplistic, partially true , skipping a lot of conflicts that triggered those countries to join and most of the time when those countries were voted in NATO Republicans were either controlling the house or the presidency. So not the Democrats alone welcome new countries to join NATO.

Keep in mind the US is one voice among those NATO countries ...but with almost a veto and the most power obviously.... I'll give it to you on that one .

One of my major peeves about Canada -- sure put a pipeline through Northern BC through one of the last remaining wilderness areas on the Earth, come down hard on anyone protesting that, etc etc fucking etc. But as soon as an East West pipeline from Alberta through Quebec to the Atlantic and all its potential markets and there is major hoo haw from the Quebecers and its killed at the discussion point. Has always pissed me off as an ex Albertan and a proud Westerner.

Checking export restrictions this morning and came across a relevant list of businesses now blocking or leaving Russia. Add in the financial blocks, frozen assets, blocked air space etc and I cannot see how this is not going to affect the Russian people. Putin and cohorts probably don't care but it has to affect all of Russia sooner or later.

Here is how world companies reacted to the war in Ukraine:
• Apple Pay — a complete blockage for Russian Federation;
• Apple — complete exit from the market;
• Adidas — stopped cooperating with the Russian national football team;
• Audi — exit from the market;
• AMD — a ban on the supply of microchips and soon a ban on the supply of video cards;
• Amazon — a full block of all retail will be for dessert;
• Adobe — turned off their services;
• British Petroleum - withdrew 20% of shares from Rosneft;
• BMW — closes factories, blocks the supply of cars and spare parts;
• Bolt — € 5 million in assistance to Ukraine;
• Chevrolet — leave the Russian market;
• Cannes Festival — block of the Russian delegation;
• Cadillac — leaving the market;
• Carlsberg — export restrictions;
• CEX IO — crypto-platform ban users of the Russian Federation;
• Cinema 4D — the application does not work;
• Coca-Cola — out of the market;
• Danone — exit the market together with its subsidiary Prostokvashino;
• Dell — exit the market;
• Dropbox — stops working in a few days;
• DHL — leaves the market;
• Eurovision — disqualification;
• Ericsson — exit from the market;
• Exxon Mobil — recall all specialists from Russian oil companies;
• Etsy — block of all balances on Russian accounts;
• Facebook — a ban on Russian media accounts;
• FedEx — complete ban on supplies;
• Formula 1 — cancellation of the Grand Prix in Sochi;
• Ford — closes all stores;
• FIFA — disqualification of the national team for the World Cup and a ban on holding any international matches in Russia;
• Google Pay — partial block;
• Google — $15 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine;
• Google Maps — a block of information for Russians;
• Get Contact — mass distribution of truthful news;
• General Motors — stops exports;
• HP — leave the market;
• Harley Davidson — termination of supply;
• Instagram —blocking propaganda;
• Intel — ban on the supply of microchips;
• Jaguar — leaves the market;
• Jooble — removed the job search service;
• KUNA — impossibility of mining crypts for Russians;
• Lenovo — exit from the market;
• LinkedIn — preparing for full exit from the country;
• IOC — cancellation of all competitions;
• MasterCard — suspension of card production, disconnection of several sanctioned banks;
• Maersk — stop deliveries to / from Russia;
• Mercedes — exit from the market;
• Megogo — delete all Russian movies;
• Metro — 10,000 employees per exit;
• Mitsubishi — employees of 141 service centers — for exit;
• Microsoft Office — "a wide range of activities is being discussed";
• Mobile World Congress — the Russian delegation was not accredited;
• NFT — block of funds of users of Russia and Belarus, transfer of their money to Ukraine;
• NHL — a complete block for players from Russia; This one got my attention - companies have dropped sponsorship of Russian players, NHL stops business activity with Russia. You know its serious when hockey bans them!!
• Netflix — a block for Russian subscriptions, stop production of Russian TV series;
• Nike — closing of all stores;
• Nintendo — a ban on purchases in rubles;
• Nestle — closes all 6 factories in Russia;
• OnlyFans — closure in Russia;
• Paysera — blocking;
• PayPal — freezing accounts for withdrawals.
• Paramount — block of film distribution;
• Parimatch — revoked the franchise; • PlayStation — cannot be paid;
• Porsche — exit from the Russian Federation;
• Renault — exit from the Russian Federation;
• Samsung Pay — blocking the service;
• Snapchat — a block of applications in Russia and Belarus, $ 15 million in assistance to Ukraine;
• Scania — exit from the Russian market;
• Shell — termination of the contract with Gazprom;
• Spotify — subscription cannot be paid;
• Sony — a block of film distribution.

more but why copy and paste that, pretty clear this is unprecedented in history.

Just like that BC pipeline, if someone is not making money if it goes by their land, they say no, put up roadblocks (no pun intended) and cause havoc until they get some compensation. Its all about money. Quebec wasn't getting any money, therefore pipeline didn't go through...Greedy Bastards....
Just tax the rich, anyone making over 120,000.00/year. at 60%. Fuck them all.
Like income tax, tax business at incremental rates. 100,000 ; 250,000 ; 500,000 ; 750,000 ; 1,000,000 ; 1.5 M; 2M; etc. starting at 10% then 11% etc.

Important to note that all those countries are independent sovereign nations. It was their decision to join NATO for their own reasons.
If Russia was upset at NATO for increasing it's membership, then he should have striked out against NATO. But Russia didn't do that, instead Russia choose to strike out again Ukraine who isn't a NATO member.
More importantly Ukraine is itself a country, with it's own government and peoples, and Russia is invading it. Securing it's borders might be the excuse that Putin is using, but the act itself is an invasion meant to overtake and subjugate a nation and it's people. It's not any liberation that Putin has suggested. From the sheer amount of resistance by the Ukrainian people, "being liberated" isn't what's happening either.

I think we can all agree that being an violent aggressor against another sovereign nation puts Russia or any nation clearly in the wrong.

We also have like 14 refineries compared to 140 something in the US, so our capacity to actually turn crude oil into something useful is completely dwarfed by the US.
Oil might be the primary source product but it's not what we put in our gas tanks at the end of the day.

What this piece of Russian propaganda doesn't address is that the countries that were freed after the collapse of the Soviet Union sought to make friends with more powerful countries, seeking alliances that would have prevented their invasion and occupation in the first place. They did not want to return to the old ways again.
