Crazy how I heard the same thing. It’s been pretty evident that our media is fake so we need to be careful what we see now. Like, all of a sudden they’re right?!
Could you elaborate as I'm not sure what you equate as fake with the Russian invasion of Ukraine ? Or were you talking about news in general ?

Saw a few burning Russian military vehicles, didn’t look fake to me.

And Stalin killed around 20 million plus of his own people; in his purges to keep controll of the peoples of Russia. Not to mention how many people disappeared through the KGB. Its not the Russian people as a whole, but the ones in power that keep perpetuating the enslavement of people through misinformation and brutal tactics of suppression.

Just to point out a fact: Stalin was Georgian, not Russian. Stalin did a lot of bad shit, but didn't visit it on any group in particular. Anybody could die if it meant gaining or keeping power for himself. This ethnic group or that one, loyal or disloyal. He didn't care. Stalin was a master at turning people against each other, to keep himself on top. He was glorified gangster, not an ideologue.

It’s interesting that though the UK, US and others are not sending any troops to the Ukraine. This hasn’t stopped former British SAS and French Foreign Legion of Ukrainian descent from volunteering.

The former SAS are a group of approx 40 between the age of 40 and 60. Apparently sniper teams and those with expertise in missiles. It’s being funded by an unnamed European.

If you ask an American about their last election there's a small but non-zero chance they would say that Trump won. Maybe don't put too much stock in what random people say, especially when they're not in any position to know the facts.

Actually, based on the polls, it's like 25% of all Americans and if you are a Republican, that number is more like 40-50% that believe Trump won and it was stolen. Such is the power of misinformation and a profoundly fucking stupid populace.

Nice to see them punting Russian TV from the cable systems here to cut down on that crap, but the internet is always there to provide the bullshit. From claims of crucifying children, to easily proven fake videos of firefights, stolen from Finnish army training videos, the Russkies have been quite sloppy on the cyber side so far, even Facebook was able to shut down their crap in the past few days.

Sources for all of the following from Google News/Daily Mail/Guardian/BBC/Al Jazeera/CNN/NYT/CBC/Bloomberg

Mr. Putin is apparently quite frustrated with the slow pace of progress and the high levels of resistance, there are reports of thermobaric/vacuum missiles and cluster bombs being used, which could lead to war crime charges when it's all over. These thermobaric weapons basically suck all of the oxygen out of the blast area, they are excellent at killing humans and pretty damn inhumane. It sounds like they have just decided to level Kyiv, telling everyone to leave their homes before they do so.

Also tragic for an aviation geek, the world's largest plane, the AN-225 has been destroyed in it's hangar. I loved touring that thing at an airshow years back, it was a monster.

Interestingly, this whole thing is going to cause exactly what Putin wanted to prevent. The Ukraine has applied to join the EU. Finland is seeing public support for joining NATO, as is Sweden. His insanity is driving his neighbors into the arms of his sworn enemies, which is basically what he wanted to prevent in the first place.

Apparently, LOTS of former and even current military types, special forces etc. have been flocking to volunteer to go fight. The British Army has had to issue a warning to its people to stay out. Russia is drawing it's puppet Belarus into the fight, as they are apparently having real trouble with their supply lines and the resistance they have been getting.

Also a thought, there's a massive convoy headed towards Kyiv, I have seen 40km and 65Km listed as it's length. 1 large airstrike could cripple the Russians. Just saying.

That convoy looks vulnerable, some A-10’s could take that thing right out but they have been retired, there was a vid of a tank that ran out of gas and they were just sitting there talking to the locals. This looks like a huge fuckup on Putin’s part.

Well Switzerland is no longer neutral and is siding with Europe and Ukraine. They were neutral for both WWI and WWII. They were neutral for over 200 years and this event changed that. Think about that.

Also glad that Justin Trudeau is sending anti-tank weapons and banning Russian oil imports. Quite proud to be a Canadian right now.

I follow 23 news apps from ABC Australia to Swiss plus ....from Daily mail to Al Jazeera through The Economist and Wall Street journal ... As well as Le Monde to LaPresse through RTBF and Le Canard enchaîné. Use to keep an eye on RT Tv but it was never critical of Putin policies being a state controlled network so I stopped ... Pravda used to be useful .

Simple if there is a fact checking team with honorable editors ....if those are missing you are in a world of constant retractions , misinformation or people doubling down on their point of view or picking and choosing their facts to win a argument or make their view stands .

Opinion journalism is just an opinion to me and not the view of a paper or agency as a whole , unless being pushed across the entire group or network. As long as someone knows about historical events going back a few hundred years to understand the cultural and social forces during events I do pay attention , without that understanding or knowledge of full facts involved in a certain event or decision.... I don't pay much attention specially newcomers that blare ideas just to make a name for themselves from their house basement or entertainment networks i.e. no full fact checking or knowledge. Exemple ... Shapiro semi knowledgeable bias

The A-10 is still in service, the Air Force wanted to retire them but the plan was blocked by Congress. Unfortunately I don’t think Ukrainian has any.

I thought Trump dropped one of those MOAB in Afghanistan. Is he up for war crimes?
The countries of NATO will not respond to troops in Ukraine, dosen't stop individuals from going there to fight and bringing a few weapons with them. Sniipers would be best, after all the military experts say with time Russia will win. But not if guerilla warfare starts.

I heard on the radio this morning that Canada was sending non-lethal supplies; helmets, body amour and so on.

I saw a documentary once on the biblical David, where David was compared to a ancient mob boss, using physical attack to maintain control of the Isrealites. Stalin killed almost more of his people than the Germans did.
How many Russians (of varying ethicities) were shot by commissars because the Russian Troops were retreating in WW2. Russia only survived the first years of the German attack in 1941, because of the war material that came from the US and Britian during WW2.
The turning point of WW2 for Russian was the battle of Kursk, of which the allies already know the Germans were attacking because of Ultra (code breaking). At Kursk, the Russians made defensive ditches which slowed the Germans down and counter attacked only after the Germans exhausted their forward movement (due to defensive tactics of the Russians). There is always the counter arguement that the western allies used and bleed Russian troops while they prepared for invasion in the west.
Yes I agree, Stalin was a murdering Bastard. That was why he was able to turn people against each other. People knew it was easier to turn on other people, then to turn against Stalin. Showing loyalty to Stalin was the only way for anyone to survive. Look at Stalins top general, Georgy Zhukov. ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgy_Zhukov
Because he lead the Russians to victory in WW2, Stalin removed him where he could no longer be a problem for him. Imagine doing that to Eisenhower or Macarthur or Montgomery.

You know Americans flying A-10 could defect to Ukraine.
Somehow the mechanics made it to the Ukaine too. Not to metioned several tankers refueling them in midair to get across the Atlantic/north pole. Like minded people doing the same thing for the common goal of peace in our lifetimes.... Ever heard that before....

Might be a lie about the body armour. Canada doesn't have enough for its own troops, something about budget cuts, or else they are giving them 15 year old armour that is fucken practically useless.....
