The Father
There are good movies and then there are great movies. This movie came a few months ago and I knew that I should watch it but something was making me avoid it. It was the theme that I was afraid of. I knew that story of an old person going thru dementia like symptoms is going to remind me of some close relatives and that’s exactly what happened when I did watch it finally.

It has to be one of the THE BEST movies I have ever seen. The performance of Anthony Hopkins is incredibly credible. Fantastic direction and production values. If you have not seen it yet, I am not going to ruin it for you. It took me a few minutes to comprehend what’s really going on.

It will really hit you hard if someone in your family is in that situation. It makes you see things from there perspective.

I remember someone recommending Still Alice starring Julianne Moore. Apparently it has a similar central character.

The Father is Remarkable!

I’ve been avoiding seeing The Father too. I think it’s part of the reason I’ll watch any war flick since the deaths are sudden vs by dementia with a slow drip drip.

I know it will hit me hard having lived the Parkinson’s and Dementia nightmare for 18 years. My Dad, my ex’s Mom and Dad all passed away from symptoms of those diseases.

I’ll get the popcorn and a box of Kleenex to watch it. Hopkins and Colman are two of my favourite actors so it should be as good as you rated it.

I Care A Lot:
Finally I watched this crime, drama thriller.
Rosamund Pike shines brilliantly. Not just because she is beautiful but also because she nailed the character. I have hots for women dressed nicely!

The other actors are equally good too. Eiza Gonzalez as Rosamund' sidekick is nice. I was hoping they are lesbians because I wanted them to kiss and they did. Peter Dinklage as a tough mob boss is brilliant. Dianne Wiest as an old lady that Rosmund is trying to con is equally good. Overall very well acted and directed.

It is a suspense and mystery movie so there is a twist to the story as well.

My only complaint is that it is about 30 minutes too long. The usual A kills B and leaves him for dead and then a few scenes later B is still alive is a cliche that is repeated over and over again and in this movie the did the same.



I recommend it with a score of 7.5 / 10.

"Don't Look Up" - another thumbs up for diCaprio and Lawrence, this is an metaphor of global warming and pokes fun at the whitehouse, Apple, Elon musk, and the general stupidity of people in this world. 7/10

"Bill & Ted Face the Music" - another really lame b&t film, only watched cause I'm a fan of Keanu. 4/10

"The 15:17 to Paris" - based on true events about the 2016 terrorist attack on a train in France foiled by several brave passengers. The 1st 2/3rd of the story is slow, but the train scenes are really exciting.
clint Eastwood directed, the principal heroes played themselves, 6/10

Last Looks

I caught it on IPTV and started to watch just out of curiosity. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. It is part comedy but mostly suspense thriller with decent acting. Mel Gibson plays this eccentric rich actor that only Mel Gibson can play.
Many of things including acting seem to a bit over the top but I still enjoyed the ride.
A retired cop (played by Charlie Hunnam, of Sons of Anarchy fame) is persuaded to come out of the retirement to investigate who killed wife of the character played by M. Gibson. Overall it is pretty entertaining but a little over the top.
7 out of 10 for me.

I have been bed-ridden due to back spasms for most of the last seven days. I rarely get time off due to health issues but anyways I have been trying to re-watch some of the movies.

Dog Day Afternoon: I think this is the movie that made me a Pacino fan. Yes, Scarface came later. Sidney Lumet created this masterpiece so well!!

Room: Although it is a mystery thriller, I think it is the emotional and psychological aspects of the movie that I absolutely love esp in the second part of the movie is very emotionally complex. Great acting esp by the main female lead and the kid who played her son!!

Notting Hill: I watched this movie on an international flight and it just happened to be on cable recently. I am not a rom/drama kinda guy but for some reason I enjoyed this movie!! Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant are great!

Misery: A tense thriller drama based on Stephen King's book. I forgot that this movie came 30 years ago and I didn't know it was directed by Rob Reiner. I am sure you have all seen it. It is amazing how a director can turn such a small plot with only a handful of cast into a very enjoyable thriller. Kathy Bates (her first major role) made that role seem so easy. For some reason, I am not a fan of James Caan but the movie is great nevertheless.

The Gentlemen. Netflix. Guy Ritchie formula movie with Hugh Grant and Matthew McConaughey and Colin Farrell. Not bad. Lots of twists and turns. Kind of cold feel about it. About all his movies really, but Snatch and Lock Stock and two smoking barrels were good. Makes England look like gangland. Still in good form I guess. The credits went on for a while at the start. From what I gather Guy Ritchie wrote. produced. directed the whole thing. Probably did the catering and set designs from what I gather.
