Funuke Show Some Love, You Losers! It's A weird Japanese black comedy from 2007, but worth seeking out if you like different movies, and not the cookie-cutter crap Hollywood churns out. It starts very slowly, but gets very intriguing as each family member's secrets are revealed.

Started to watch it on Netflix because I love airplane movies. A group of terrorists hijack a Germany to NY flight. The action starts very quickly and goes on thru out. There is a woman and her son on board and she has this hidden dark secret that she unleashes. That's where movie turned from a mid air drama to supernatural twist. I was playing along so far but halfway thru I lost interest and fast forwarded my way to the end.

If you are into supernatural, vampires etc you might enjoy it. I for one can't recommend it despite it being an airplane hijack drama.

Recommend and Repeat : No

3.5 out of 10 for me.

Pretty accurate. It was great at the start, but went downhill fast with the supernatural twist.

just saw The Rescue, detailing the ordeal&rescue of the Thai boys soccer team trapped in a cave for over 2 weeks.

I was living in Thailand when this happened and the country was focussed on this, 24 hrs/day

Really miraculous rescue, against huge odds.

Highly recommended.

Anyone watching (and enjoying) Squid Game on Netflix?

I started it a couple of days ago and I am done four episodes. I have to say it is pretty good even with its outrageous, over the top plot.
Koreans moviemakers do things very differently. For example, Parasite, Snowpiercer, Train to Busan, The Host, Oldboy and Tunnel are a few that I have seen and quite enjoyed.

Black Widow on Disney. Way better than expected.
As usual with Marvel, there’s heavy duty unfinished business.

The Card Counter:
I saw it recently and enjoyed it. It is tense, deep, deliberately slow, eerie and not easy to watch at times.

The best part is the direction by Paul Schroder and acting by lead actor Oscar Issac. I have always enjoyed watching this wonderfully multi-dimensional actor and he doesn’t disappoint. Although his supporting cast is good too but it could’ve been better.
Some parts of the movies are grim and violent so be warned.
7.82 out of 10 for me.
Recommended: Yes.

LOL. 7.82 out of 10. What would have to be improved to get a score of 7.83 ???

Dune
Part 1 ( maybe of 2, maybe 3)

The Denis Villeneuve version of Dune is a beautiful version of the first part of the story.
It is the 1st part of the story, and it ends at an awkward spot. Will there be more Dune filmed and produced? This would be the big gotcha of the movie. It does appear there is a green light for the next part to the movie to be made, but it hasn't done fantastic box office.
At the rate they are thru the movie, it could go to a part 3 - if the money is made, and the appetite is there to make it.
The casting is fairly solid. There were only 1 or 2 roles that could have been cast better. A lot of players and parts in the movie, so, good hit rate for the casting.
An ambitious movie to shoot.
The original material written by Frank Herbert has a massive canvas to fill. The world, and political back story on this Sci-Fi classic is a tricky story to bring to the screen.
This movie does hold fairly true to the book, with a few tweaks (to appease modern day audiences) that could upset some fans of the original.
All said, quite entertaining.
If you do go to see it - head to an IMAX showing. The larger screen is a bonus for this flick.

Awright...I have mixed feelings about Dune...love the cinematography, visuals, and the actors but the way the story progressed was a downer...will stop saying anything more for those that have seen.

I agree, I see the appeal but even as a setup movie I was left wanting

No Time To Die
I have never been a Bond franchise fan. I saw some movies in my younger days but I have not really cared much in last few decades. Out of curiosity and boredom I started to watch the latest Bond movie.
I stayed on it for an hour and a half and then I realized the story didn't seem to be heading towards the climax. That's when I realized that this movie is 2.45 minutes longggggggggg.
Enough! I stopped and started the following movie.
Good action, big budget, lots of style, Daniel Craig looks good but its too long, too many characters and ....... whatever.

Blood On Her Name.
Caught it on IPTV. Good little mystery thriller. Good acting and direction. Clearly it is a smaller budget movie and I am sure with more money, slightly better actors and other technical stuff, the movie could even be better.

But still I recommend it. It is tense, suspenseful and the lead lady did a good job. I especially was impressed by the young boy as her son.
Recommended. Yes.

The long anticipated prequel to the HBO Sopranos series is available now.

It’s 2 hours long and they tried to unpack a lot of Pre-history of the 6+ years of the series. For me it was a disappointing result making a disjointed film like this one. There is too much backstory required to make proper sense of the prequel they present. To my mind it should have at least 2 or 3 instalments to do a proper job of the long running series.

If you want good reviews, I'd really recommend "the critical drinker" channel on youtube. Guy basically says it how it is.

There are rumors about another season of Squid Game. Someone has even posted a trailer but I think it is fake. I can not find any other information on it.

Agree w your take. This felt a bit rushed to me.
Wanted to see more of the young Tony but I suppose
He was still in development at this stage of his character.
Having said that, I wasn't interested in the Moltesanti character.

The Unforgiving (Netflix):
Watched it recently and I had mixed feelings about it. Although editing and some acting is good, there is something missing in it. May be it is the pacing of the film or may be it is the supporting cast. The brightest thing about this movie is Sandra Bullock. I wish I could just walk up to her and yell at her for getting plastic surgery. She was a naturally pretty woman with a very likable personality (Remember Speed?) but then she decided to turn into Michael Jackson. Apart from her and a bit of plot twist, I tried to like the movie, but ..... I can only give it 2.5/5.

PS: A little sidenote, the story is based in Washington state area. You can see that a lot of scenes were filmed in Vancouver. You can notice the mountains clearly. One of the scene where she meets the young girl is filmed at QE Park.

Hellbound: (Netflix):

Seems like the western world has started to realize the quality of Korean movies. I watched the six episodes of season 1 and although I enjoyed it, I wish they had revealed more. But I guess that's why we have to watch Season 2. It is a horror( Well, nothing scary horror though), thriller. Seems like most of the Korean cinema/TV I have watched, had these social undertones e.g. Parasite, Snowpiercer, Squid Game to name a few. This one is about how religion can be used to bend people's perception and for personal benefits. Apart from the three monsters looking a bit too CGI'ed, (I am not spoiling anything, you see them within first few minutes of the first episodes), rest if pretty enjoyable, albeit slow at times.

The best part was Kim Hyun-joo. What a cute girl!! She should be in Hollywood.
4/5 for me.
