The Purge 3, PLEASE don't even bother, its way way worse than the first 2. I think Purge 3 has ended this series.

I agree with the other poster, Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a very nice surprise. Its a charming and whimsical movie.

I also saw:

The Shallows: ehhhh, its a one timer if you really want it, but its very contrived and artificial, not realistic at all
The BFG: Easy kid's fare, but rather slow. Great CGI and acting though
Our Kind of Traitor: Kind of a static thriller, but it gets the job done

Saw this creepy flick a few months ago.
The film slowly builds and builds and builds. A slow orgasmic ride without the happy ending. No jump scares here. Just one long slow creepy pace through out the film.
Set around the late 1700 or early 1800s i believe and the dialogue is spoken in old English which for some may be off putting and difficult to understand at times.
Don't let that prevent you from watching this film.

There are a couple scenes in this film that gave me genuine chills. The film soundtrack contributes to the disturbing atmospheric tone.
For myself, one the better films of this year so far.

Heard good things about The Witch.

One of the most boring movies I've seen.

Not frightening unless you think watching paint dry is scary.

Saw this film at the Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas (Tinseltown) last week.
Starring Viggo Mortensen :thumb: as a survivalist dad who raises his kids away from modern civilization.
He teaches them how to hunt for their food, think for themselves outside the herd mentality, the evils of consumerism and they celebrate Noam Chomskys birthday like it's Christmas.

The movie does pose the question; does Viggo's character take it too far? His character asks himself that very question at one point through the film.
The movies theme is very similar to films such as The Mosquito Coast and Running On Empty but with more comedic elements.
There are dramatic/emotional elements as well such as his wife's death, her family trying to gain custody of the kids; a couple of the kids questioning if this is the correct lifestyle for them.

Viggo is the center of the film, he reigns everything together. How can you not not like Viggo?:)
I found the ending to be somewhat predictable but nevertheless a very enjoyable film.
Repeatable viewing for me.

Viggo did an interview about that on CBC, man may be the only guy in Hollywood worth listening to.
Thoughtful and concise, doesn't pose in designer clothers for free publicity, seems sincere.
All around good guy.

Viggo has been a favourite actor utilized by Canadian director David Cronenberg in recent years. These include "A History of Violence", "Eastern Promises" and "A Dangerous Method". I have not watched the last of these 3 yet, but the the first 2 I have watched several times and are great movies. Both of these movies contain a fair amount of violence, especially the 2nd. The fight scene that takes place in the bath house in Eastern Promises is the most visceral fight scene I have ever seen!

I agree. I have seen first two and he has this unique and eerie appearance. I will add A Dangerous Method to my TDL.

I am always trying to go back and watch the movies I have missed. I caught these two recently.

There Will Be Blood: For me this movie is an epic. Daniel Day Lewis is just outstanding! He nailed his character of cold blooded, intense, focused and greedy man. Brilliant story telling, great direction, visually appealing and great acting. 4/5 from me.

Blood Simple: One of Coen brothers' earliest movie. It could be their first ever. (I just checked, yes it is their first ever, made in 1984). In fact, I only recognized Frances MacDormand and Dan Hedaya (from Commando and Cheers) out of all the actors. It is your typical Coen brothers' movie. Twisted, on the edge, odd and very well directed. If you enjoy watching Coens' stuff, this movie will not disappoint you. 3/5.

I saw the new Bourne flic at Metrotown which is the best way to see an action film.

Non stop action as expected. I enjoyed it and a few new twists were thrown in there ;)

I predict Damon will be back for JB VI

Interesting side bar is Damon only spoke 43 sentences and 288 words in this chapter.

A BBC journalist indicated that these films get a lot of foreign play. Less dialogue equals less translation.

I believe that is the first movie that Frances MacDormand was in also. And since she has been married to Joel Coen since 1984 as well, , it seems only fitting :)

"Eye in the Sky"
A war movie, but with a modern and unique perspective.
The title refers to the predator drone that flies 24,000' above a house that has a suicide bomber gearing up to attack civilians.
Americans control the drone and have their fingers on the trigger, the Brits argue amongst themselves whether to make the kill or not. The legal guy is undecided, the politicans pass the buck, the administrators say No, the military men say Shoot.
A young girl selling bread poses the "collateral damage" dilemma.
Quite a good script that raises many questions about the morals and ethics of killing terrorists by proxy
8.5/10

Brilliant script and very intense acting.

Even if you are not into war flicks, this one has a lot of great dialogue about morals of war Or lack there of...

Helen Mirren was brilliant as usual, Alan Rickman was understated but believable (was terminally ill from pancreatic cancer, and died shortly after the film), Aaron Paul had a silly role trying to bring a conscience to killing by drone warfare, Barkhab Abdi was excellent as the operative on the ground.

The CBC reviewer only gave it 2/5. He said that when the first edit was completed the powers that be thought that it was not nearly as exciting as the trailer. So they hired the crew that created the trailer to re-edit the film ?!?! the result, from the CBC reviewer's point of view, was something half way between a trailer and a move and _NOT_ a very satisfying result.

I think I will wait to watch it until a 2GB 1080P version can be downloaded from a bit torrent site.

the director said that the theatrical cut was his directors cut i find it hard to believe that anyone could find it not exciting but everyone has there own views but i liked it just take it as it is and dont expect it to be a best picture nomination. let us know what you think cami if you do see it.
