Hi there everyone, so I’m super curious about this. I am from Toronto, Ontario and have lived in Surrey BC now for 7 years. I moved to Surrey, mainly because it’s more affordable and it’s quite close to Vancouver, and access to the lower mainland in general. I also move in a nice neighbourhood as well here.

I did hear bad things about Surrey before moving here, and have heard countless “Surrey Girl” jokes since moving here, and because I live here. But since escorting, I have heard many people who frequent escort services talk about how Surrey escorts are a red flag, and how you will get scammed more in Surrey, and that they avoid Surrey escorts.

So, as someone not from BC, and from Ontario, why is there this bad reputation about Surrey? Also why do Surrey escorts get a bad rep too? Please keep the discussion respectful… I’m really curious, that’s all

Respectfully, since I don't personally know, I'm guessing this has a part in it...

Hard to find legit providers in Surrey. I think this would be the main reason. The robbery thing would also be a deterrent for people aware. Its not so much Surrey escorts getting a bad rep but just Surrey being known for bad escorts.

Surrey probably has like 3-4 legit providers if we don't include PDC group. By legit I mean true to their ad.

All of this is just my opinion of course.

Surrey, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, Mission, Langley..Fraser Valley as a whole, all have a bit of a bad rep and seems to go beyond the escort scene, imo

The "Surrey Girl" meme has been going on for at least 40+ years in my experiences growing up in Vancouver, and even I don't know where it started. In my teen years (in the 90s), I found myself dating a few Surrey girls that definitely gave credence to the meme. Girls who do fuck on the first date, even if the date was a dud, you'd still get a BJ as a consolation prize. One time, my buddy took me to a house party in Surrey, and girls there would be grabbing at every dude's cocks as if they were simple handshakes. And if a girl liked what she grabbed, she'd be his for the night.

*** LOL, I remember an old BCTV news segment they were featuring about the rise in STDs within teen demographics. And in an interview with a teen girl in Surrey that openly admitted how fast and loose she was. I just remember her being so flippant about it like "Oh I have no problem blowing a guy I just met, if he's nice enough."...I just remember the audacity, I went to tell my friends about what I saw, and they unloaded all these "Surrey Girl" jokes and their own experiences.

I could wager a guess at the origins of the meme, it's probably has something to do with the "Slutty Farm Girl" archetype. Since even during "my time" Surrey was a small city (before the King George skytrain expanded out there) where many other farming communities congregate, bringing together that "oh so bored, I need dick to pass the time'" mentality that teen girls would have living isolated on a farm. Then as the city grew and expanded, the sentiment expanded into more of a cultural mindset in the city....again, just guessing....

So robberies in general and in by so-called escorts are higher in Surrey? I wasn’t aware of this. Well I work out of Surrey, and PDC, and more glad I do now. Thanks for this. It’s unfortunate that Surrey and escorts working from there having a bad rep.

Really? Can I ask why? I’ve been here for a few years now, and I just have personally found “good and bad” everywhere, and on a personal and professional level. I didn’t know the lower mainland in general had this reputation.

True everywhere there’s good and bad, just like the gangs and crimes coming on in the lower mainland they are everywhere but some get more highlighted than others.

Surrey has had some talent over the years but few and far between. Even less since Covid hit. Although it wasn't that good before. There are a few gems/quality providers. It's just the amount of fakes, ROBs, B&S seems way more prevalent there vs the amount of good providers at current times. The better agencies and Indy's are in generally/mostly (not all) in the Van, Burnaby, Richmond core.

Surrey has been Vancouver’s poorer cousin since the 60’s if not earlier. The Surrey jokes I recall accelerated in the 70’s and 80’s, in part because Newfie and other ethnic jokes ran their course so the bad joksters of society decided Surrey was the next whipping boy, but in this case, girl. It was a low rent district, and hadn’t gone through the tremendous growth (and face lifts that some areas have seen now). Walley especially was rough neighbourhood, and you could pick your bar fight most nights of the week. Blue collar town, blue collar attributes, and higher crime rate. When Surrey became a prostitute area, it was mostly scantily dressed street walkers, with out the renowkned class, beauty, or variety as the Davie (Later Seymour) Street pro’s of the big city.

No doubt about it, Surrey girls in general dressed more slutty and were looser sexually than their big city sisters. To me, that was not a bad thing. Not at all—Lol. But it did make the Surrey Girl rep easy to swallow (ooops, my bad). Then I think even Delta and surrounding communities got in the the Surrey bashing wagon (Living in Delta means never having to say you’re Surrey). But Langley couldn’t escape the Surrey suburb wave (I’m from Langley, wanna bangme?). Ya, stereotypes and jokes took off like wildfire. Remember, we didn’t have social media back then; so creative jokes at someone else’s expense were (regrettably) part of social talk.

The word “Escort” didn’t really play into the mix in Surrey until the internet made discreet advertising and incalls possible, wiping out the street scene in 10 yrs. However, with the exception of a few (really good!) gems, the quality of the early Surrey escorts was not great, nor were their incalls. Lots of rough looking gals with maybe a few too many habits. However, with newer condo developments and a bigger gene pool now, there are providers with good reviews and good safe incalls. However the barriers to entry are low, the crime element remains, and scammers persist. At least now with credible reviews, I believe a quality SP can stand out anywhere.

Go Surrey! I am still rooting for you!

Thank you for this, I find this interesting. This could explain part of the stereotype. I find this interesting as I grew up in a small town outside of Toronto and in a farm… but I was a super nerd in school and was a virgin all through high school, was more of “one of the guys”, and never thought of trying to have sex out of boredom… but maybe some would? There are the farmers daughters jokes around out there too.

Thank you for your reply, it is appreciated by an implant here, and escorting mostly in Surrey, too.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I'm from the Island and Surrey looks just like any other place in Metro Vancouver which is basically a large strip mall. I think in Toronto, Scarborough and Spadina got the same disrespect for years. Surrey has nice beaches and neighborhoods with houses that are huge and not like living in a shoebox as well as any other town in Metro but also some pretty shitty parts but they don't even come close to the Downtown East Side in Vancouver so I could never understand how Vancouver could even try making jokes about Surrey or any other town. Surrey has gentrified like every other region in the Lower Mainland so it's all ancient history. There's gunfire all over Metro now not just Surrey. As for escort scams? That's a generalization as I've been following these threads for a few years now and the scams seem to surface in all towns not just Surrey. I wouldn't pack up and leave because of some outdated notions and opinions.

Thank you for your input. Interesting. Growing up back east in Ontario, Newfie jokes I don’t think went away… and I’m half Newfie… and naturally blonde… and there was a lot of the same jokes for both it seemed. This is just interesting to read for me, and it’s a shame Surrey has had such a bad rep. It’s really such a shame there are so many scammers in Surrey and who are infiltrating this industry too.

Being from the Toronto area, YES, Scarborough was one city that got joked about a lot… and certain areas… and if you were born in Scarborough General Hospital too. I also have found many areas of Surrey to be really nice, and yes the beaches, like Crescent are absolutely beautiful.

Since moving here I have noticed the east end of Vancouver to be super sketchy, and I’ve never seen so much open hard drug use in a city as Vancouver. I lived in downtown Toronto for 10 years, and didn’t see the amount of sketchiness I have seen in Van. So I have been quite perplexed by the Surrey stereotypes, and going into escorting seeing people saying Surrey escorts are a red flag or how most scams are done in Surrey. Hopefully these don’t scare people away from the legit escorts who work out of Surrey.
