Shaw's Freedom is just the old Wind Mobile. I was with Wind a few years ago. Signal quality was very unreliable because Freedom's frequency (band) cannot easily penetrate thick concrete. I went back to Rogers after a few months.
Assuming you can accept Freedom's reliabiity, you still need to subscribe to Shaw's exorbitant Internet plans (posted rates) to get this "free" service. You can get home Internet for much cheaper than Shaw. I got tired of calling Shaw's loyalty dept every once in a while to beg for a lower rate. I have since moved on to a 3rd party reseller and have never thought of going back to Shaw or Telus. With Can Com, I pay $50/month for 100mbps down and 7mbps up; no contract; no quotas.
For cell phone, I have been with Public Mobile for more than 2 years and love it. Public Mobile runs on the Telus network so coverage is excellent. I'm on the cheapest plan at $15/month but have gotten my bill down to $5/month with loyalty/auto pay/referral rewards. In Nov, I'll be at 3 years of loyalty, so my monthly charge will drop by another $1 to $4/month.
Public Mobile plans are great for those who do not need much data. Or for those who have a large social network (SPs ?) to use referral rewards to get their monthly charge lowered substantially. I have heard that some people pay $0/month even on the larger plans.
