The Founder

enjoyed this gem of a film.
it's about the origins of how McDonald's (restaurant) came to be.

fascinating characters in the film, including Michael Keaton (the big picture guy) playing
the fast talking salesman who swindled the original owners (two brothers) out of a fortune.

I quite enjoyed the part where the original owners was conceptualizing
the operation's efficiency (on a tennis court) which was brilliantly executed.

beautiful cinematography throughout.
the time period was 1950s suburb America. retro hair and cars always looks good on the big screen.

highly recommend.

John Wick Chapter 2: BADASS. Its a very enjoyable sequel to the 2014 film, lots of action and more world building. If you like the first one or action films, you'll enjoy this one. There were a few memorable moments for sure.

The Batman Lego Movie. For the kids but has a wry tongue in cheek sense of humour with enough double entendre jokes and pop references to keep the adults entertained.

Two long movies i'd generally recommend, though over 2 hours each:

1. Snowden, referred to in recent posts in this thread, a true story:

If you enjoyed the TV series "24" you might enjoy Snowden too. Nicolas Cage has a small part.

2. Warcraft, with actor Travis Fimmel, who plays a somewhat similar, but much more comedic, character than he does in the series "Vikings":

As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. This action fantasy sci-fi war comedy romance film has spectacular scenery.

The Great Wall (in 3D): It was a generic and bland monster movie. It was your usual swords vs monsters type adventure action, a bit of humour, not much else. Not worth big screen viewing imo.

Blood Father: Excellent. Mel gibson is back in fine form, its definitely a nice change of pace, as its a character driven drama with action bits, so it ups the ante. Definitely recommended and a nice surprise.

LOGAN is the movie to see right now. Its fantastic, dark, full of pathos, action, suspense, and heart. Definitely recommended.

This isn't my knd of movie, but I liked it better than you. Wish I'd popped for 3-D.

Agree the actors, especially Hiddleton, were wasted. He literally does nothing.

Brie Larson is hot, though.

John C Reilly saves the movie. He's the only rounded character, and is very funny.

The Kong CGI is fantastic, visually. They could have given him some personality though. Kong's main foe looks bad and isn't a very interesting creature. The usual plot holes and leaps of logic in these types of movies.

Good 70's soundtrack.

Stay for a fairly long (maybe 2-3 minutes) after-the-credits scene setting up sequels.

Probably my favorite animation of 2016 - yeah, better than Zootopia. Yes, it's a kids' movie/fairytale and some parts do require a suspension of disbelief. Just enjoy the story.

Great voice acting from Matthew McConaughey & Charlize Theron. A real treat if you're a big Japanophile.

I have not posted in this thread in a while so here I am again. Saw Personal Shopper last night. Horror movies are just not my cup of tea but I was intrigued by the introduction on the website that I watched it on. I started to watch it and I could not put it down till I was done.

It is a story of a woman (played VERY WELL by Kristen Stewart) living in Paris. She is a personal shopper for a snotty celebrity. Although that is her day job, she is really seeking to connect with the soul of her departed twin brother. She has the same heart condition that took her brother's life. They had both agreed that whoever dies first would contact the other. They both were born with the qualities to be a 'medium' as well. Her professional life and her mission to contact her dead brother's spirit run parallel in this movie.

The movie was tagged thriller, horror and drama and it is all that. But it is not your typical horror, slasher flick. It has much deeper roots about unhappy souls. The movie is set in Paris and it has that European school of film making tone to it. European directors seem to have this deliberate sense to pace the movie so you stay with it as compared to Hollywood where many films tend to be louder. May be I feel that way because I only see the European movies that have good reviews.

Anyways, so Kristen Stewart (my first time seeing her, I think) plays the gloomy, sad, withdrawn girl working in the fashion industry and shopping at high end stores so well. (BTW, for nudity lovers, she has beautiful smallish breasts and you get to see them twice, there is also a scene where she masturbates, but.... no nudity there, sorry).

This movie stayed with me for a while and I started to research other sites to see how other people reacted. I was not surprised that people seemed to be so divided on their opinion that they seemed to be from different poles of the earth. Some people thought it was "the worst movie", and others thought it was a piece of brilliant direction. I am with the people with the latter opinion and that's why I recommending it. Go see it if you are into movies that have more under the surface that just a horror, suspense thriller. It is about character study, brilliant acting, beautiful cinematography, and a mood that brings all the elements together so well.

Recommended: Yes. I watched it online and it is available in HD.

I saw The Fate of the Furious on Saturday. It was a average sequel, but entertaining. Jason Statham and Charlize Theron stole the show.

I also saw Your Name. its an anime film that has too many sappy songs but it was interesting. Its a romance sci fi.

"Rogue One" was released on DVD early this month.

If you enjoyed other Star Wars films, i wouldn't miss this one.

Story wise it's less philosophical than SAC or the original movie and more about major finding herself
