I just watched Sully last night. It was better than I expected to be honest. It was directed by Clint Eastwood, so it should not b surprising that it is a good movie. I recommend 3.5/5.

I have to disagree with a review above for War Dags. I would give it a 4/5 myself. Especially when you consider it is based on a true story which somewhat restricts the plotline. The soundtrack to the movie is great btw.

Except they took the real story and changed so much they made it into a lame movie.

One movie where they took the real story, made some changes, but still kept the good stuff and made a great movie is Lion. Probably will be a Best Picture candidate.

I am eager to see Lion! I really like Dev Patel, but I am more curious to see Nicole Kidman playing the mother of a 30something....

Sully was actually very good, and constructed in a great way and has great pacing.

I found out more about the story than I thought I knew, and Hanks was perfect as Sully.

So I am assuming your first comment was not meant for Sully but for War Dogs instead? BTW, I agree with the "constructed in a great way and has great pacing" of your comment as well as "Hanks was perfect as Sully".

Saw some new stuff:

Fences: Never got to complete this film. 20 minutes in was way too much, its all heavy dialogue based by Denzel's character is just a barrage of words and my friend and I couldn't handle it. This is 20 minutes into a 2.5 hour movie, and I consider myself a patient film viewer

Why Him? : Not that good, this was the backup film my friend and I saw after we walked out of Fences. It has an occasional laugh or so but its a very disposable comedy that wastes the cast

Jackie: Good acting, kind of slow in parts but it was alright. Not a must see but if you like the players then go

Manchester by the Sea: Not perfect, but very well done. Performances masterful, the story is solid, the ending is soft on purpose. Definitely recommended.

Yes - reference was to War Dogs. Sorry for the confusion.

The book is so interesting, it's a shame they screwed up the movie to Hollywoodize it.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya. I wonder how many people cried at the end of this movie.

I have a thing for heartbreaking Japanese stories and this one is top 3. Number one will always be Grave of the Fireflies. Which still hurts to think about.

Rogue One: A couple of nitpicks.
Apparently Darth Vader has moved in with Sauron in Barad-Dur. Jeez that was cheesy. Perhaps it was some kind of homage to Peter Jackson?
Second, they screwed up his helmet, he has a fat head now.
Otherwise an okay action movie but grim and not for little kids.

I rented Snowden and liked it. I had read Laura Poitras book on the NSA and found the Oliver Stone version is a good portrayal of the events.

If you haven't see it watch Citizen Four. I believe it's on Netflix still. It's a documentary about when Snowden, then calling himself Citizen Four reached out to Poitras, Greenwald, etc. Shows in depth the detail that intelligence will go when they monitor someone. The cast of characters are the real people from that era (Appelbaum, Assange, Scahill, etc).

"The Handmaiden" came highly rated by Cannes, imdb, etc. A korean film withenglish subtitles. A psycho- erotic mystery film. I thought it was pretty good. The sets and cinematography are suPERB, but the story is a bit convoluted, it runs well over Two hours. 7/10

"Come Hell or High-water" A good old fashion crime story about a couple of brothers in small town Texas who become bank robbers in order to save the family farm. Ordinarily, I wouldn't be cheering for guys like these but, it's hard not side with them when you consider what banks are doing to the people these days. 7.5/10

"War Dogs". Was pleasantly surprised with this movie, about a hapless smuck selling bed sheets and giving massages for a living, bumps into his schyster highschool chum at a funeral , and learns he's a smalltime arms dealer.
They form a partnership and eventually score a $300 million contract with the pentagon. Unfortunately, complication arise and the 2 have to go to Albania, Jordan ,and then thru the "triangle of death" in Irag. Jonah Hill is superb,
8/10

"Pete's Dragon" silly disney movie, robert redford looks 109 years old. 5/10

Hidden Figures tells the little known story of three African American women involved in NASA'S efforts to put a man into space orbit. While the characters sometimes seem a little broadly drawn the movie really highlights the prejudice they had to overcome to achieve success. Ultimately it's quite an inspirational tale.

Holy shit - La La Land - a trite, cliche-riddled, forgettable musical takes a boatload of Oscar nominations.

The music was uninspiring, the acting adequate and the plot a recycling of about 50 other movies.

Miss Sloane: After a bit of a long break, I watched Miss Sloane. It was released in December and I watched it online. It is about politics and ethics. What was the last time we heard those words in same sentence!

Jessica Chastain plays a cold-blooded, I-only-win, go for the jugular, kind of lobbyists in a firm. She is the centre lead and she does it to a perfection. She suits the role so well, in fact she never seemed to have miscast in any of the movies that I have seen her in; Take Shelter, Zero Dark Thirty, Martian (she, I felt was underused), A Most Violent Year, The Debt. Although she plays her role perfectly, the character sometimes seemed to be in a lab, if you know what I mean. So does the story but the movie itself is well paced and it is a suspense thriller.

The story and political stuff seemed a bit too heavy to me but it was enjoyable nevertheless. The rest of the cast is good too and movie is very well directed by John Madden. Again, Jessica Chastain steals the show. She seems to have this pale, serious, cold look that she seems kind of sexy.

Recommend: Yes. 3 out of 5 for me.
