The RCMP in Manitoba say they don't know what prompted a 40-year old man to savagely stab a younger man sitting beside him on a Greyhound bus last night.

The bus was enroute to Winnipeg from Edmonton when the attacker stood up, apparently unprovoked, and began knifing the victim in the neck until he decapitated the man.

One witness told CTV Newsnet, that the driver immediately pulled over, and the other passengers ran off the bus, and then blocked the door so the attacker could not escape.

Police arrested the attacker as he tried to escape threw a window on the bus,he has yet to be charged.

Witnesses say the victim was asleep, with his headphones on when the attack began.

The two men got on the bus at different stops.

while the title of my above post is definitely tongue in cheek to Fudd's thread, the senseless murder is indeed shocking and terrible. Cases like this make me wish Canada had the death penalty.

What I do find funny is all the knee-jerk reactions people, especially the media, are having. Travelling on Greyhound in no more dangerous today right now than it was a week ago, month ago or longer. No matter what you do there is a certain element of risk associated with it, hell even going out to get the mail you can get run over.

Has this made anyone fearful of getting on a Greyhound now?

Honestly, yes this had made me fearful about taking the Greyhound to Winnipeg, which I have done countless times over the last ten years. This story has disturbed me all day long, mostly I'm sure because I am so familar with the bus route and recognise all the locations mentioned in the story.

But I'm aware that my trepidation about the bus is an over-reaction, and that within a few weeks my anxiety will subside. I was really afraid to fly in late 2001 but have no problem doing so now.

thing is, if someone would have intervened there might be more dead than there is now. It's in a vvvvery narrow bus, hard to restrain someone, especially if you have never encountered a mentally deranged individual before. From what I heard on the news there were a group of 4 guys that attempted to reboard the bus and help the fellow that was being stabbed but by the time they did so they saw the attacker cutting the guys head off. He started to move towards them so they backed off and barricaded him in the bus so he couldnt get out. I think they did all that they could, they should shouldner no guilt here.

I wonder how loud he had the music cranked up ? I've sat beside people with tunes cranked to the max, them having headphones didn't keep me from hearing them. Could be the same type of situation, maybe the other guy wanted to get some sleep as well, but buddy with the music wouldn't turn the volume down ? Maybe he asked nice and it didn't work, so he flipped.

murder is ok.. stabbing someone is ok..... but cutting off some one head randomly is insane.....

This guy is sick... He shouldn't be let out forever. This sounds so unbelievable. More horrific than watching a horror movie. I still can't believe what i'm hearing.

It sounded like Jihad..... beheading or whatever is like some terrorists organize group.

When was the same time u heard about beheading?

Up your V
This psyhco would've mutilated each and everyone on that bus towards his escape. A great thing the driver had a kill switch to disable the bus from starting.

It could've been loud music or the wrong music. I hate hearing music blurring if I don't know the song. The bus with 37 people so that is almost full and defitnetly he felt pissed not getting his elbow room.

Now Manitoba can take back the title of Murder Capital of Canada from Saskatchewan.

Governments at every level in this country do a horrible job of supporting the battle against mental illness.

Pretty fucking silly to think that the death penalty or longer jail terms, or whatever would stop things like this from happening.

And it wasn't some "jihad" - good grief.

You see someone stabbing another person repeatedly with a Rambo knife and your reaction is to confront him. I think that's called suicide but you can call it whatever.

the pussies on that bus shouldnt have run off, they should gang beat his ass into the next world.
I can't believe I'm actually going to say the following but please god dont hold it against me:D

I COMPLETELY AGREE with you SJ, I dont know how many people there were on that bus and how many were able bodied young men. I do know that the first thing that came to my mind was how did not a single fucking person help the man and they all ran out of the bus, some undoubtedly walking by him as he hacked away at the man's head.

Wilde: If you were walking down the street and a child was getting raped or beaten by some psycho do you mind your ow business or get involved?

. I think that's called suicide but you can call it whatever.

.
I call walking away chicken shit and epidemic of a piece of shit self centered society.

Wilde:

Ignore button - use it. :D

You see, I know that (1) silky and the other fuckwad are saying stuff that's completely assinine, inflammatory, and just plain stupid, (2) they're both ignorant dipshits, and (3) they both would have been stepping over little old ladies to run for the hills in this case.

But the ignore button keeps me from having to read their dumb crap.
