I wouldn't worry too much Man Mountian. Every client will have to make up their own mind as to whether they will partake in the hobby after Dec 6th. I don't think anyone on the site is interested in interfering in anyone's right to make their own decision.

Personally for myself, I plan to take some time off from the hobby until the dust settles here in Alberta and we'll see what happens after December 6th. It will be more important to be informed and to pay attention to what actually happens vs. worrying about or creating problems that may not actually exist.

Who knows, I might need to move to Vancouver to enjoy some great ladies and a team that can actually win hockey game.

All I have to say is "STUPID DUMB TWO FACED CONSERVATIVES" Some of the SP's who have the Conservative Members of Parliament in their little black books should out each and every one of them that have used their services anytime in the past. :)

i don't see you as a fear monger MM. i simply want to assure that in my almost daily conversations with police both in the counter exploitation unit and with their boss the inspector in charge of the special investigations unit, they are standing behind the policy. they have assured myself and others including answering questions in the georgia strait article in an attempt to alleviate fears about enforcement against adult consensual activities.

they are only interested in busting pimps and exploiters, those who would harm sex workers or any person engaged in the sex industry. their recent arrest of the guy pimping underage girls and the 30 resulting charges has demonstrated to them what they can do when resources aren't tied up enforcing against an adult consensual activity.

they are happy to focus on exploitation rather than wasting time and money chasing their tails in some federally regulated attempt to eliminate sex work.

so while i understand you and others have concerns and those concerns are valid, i want to assure you no enforcement against consensual activities - including longstanding / well known MP's - will occur in vancouver unless exploitation of a minor or any person is suspected or found.

the city of vancouver has even created 2 liaison positions intended to keep our issues at the table in the future and to ensure the spirit of these guidelines ( both the CoV and VPD policies) are respected. that spirit being increasing the safety of people working in the sex industry and preventing a disaster like that in the case of the missing and murdered women from ever happening again.

vancouver is different from anywhere else in the country. there is not one person who was not impacted by the tragedy in coquitlam. we all know the price of engaging in these sorts of folly enforcement actions which are really only put in place to please the " moral voting base" of the conservatives. here more than anywhere people are not willing to ignore science and real outcomes of bad policies such as those behind bill c-36.

i did try to get other regions to do what we did but met with skepticism about the willingness of police to take part. it is being tried in other areas as we speak. in edmonton their is a task force underway.

don't forget, while the police have an obligation to uphold the criminal code, they also have broad discretion in how they apply the law.

if these laws are used in vancouver, they will be used to ensure an exploiter goes to jail, not to humiliate and client and destroy his life for the sake of an ideal. the vpd do not see the logic in it. especially when reporting of violence is increasing and the safety of sex working epople in the city is increasing.

hope that makes sense.

Hi susie

That's great for the people who are in Vancouver, But what about all the other cities in Metro Vancouver?

I spent quite a lot of time reading those 31 pages written so far and I was wondering how the market will look like in 3 days. Some clients are clearly worried, some says that it's easy to trace IPs or text messages, some SP consider to move to Australia, but the majority of this community seems to be quite confident that no major changes will happen, especially because LE do not want and do not have the means to enforce the new law; therefore, we should not worry about the future.

Probably, the new scene will be a combinaison of various evolutions and factors which will depend on time, cities, SPs and client behaviours. This is how I see things in the future:

- Time: "exemplary" arrests or fines will certainly happen at the beginning in somes cities, probably not Vancouver, and may be very detrimental to the market because the media will talk about it, paranoia will spread, and both clients and SP will reduce their activity. In any case, the first days and weeks after December 6th may see a drop in the demand and even offer, as people will want to see what happens... but biology and budget needs will prevail and the activity will start again. Most forum members beleive the "dust will settle" and things will ge back to normal after a while.

Place: there are going to be differences beetween Calgary and Edmonton, between Vancouver and other greater Vancouver cities. Will this imply that SP will move to Vancouver as a safe heaven? At some point, certainly, depending on the intensity of the RCMP action elswhere. The meetings in condos are probably going to increase, as they are considered as more discreet places to operate.

- SPs: The ones who will suffer the most are the occasional/short term (especially asian) types of SP who have no reputation. Conversally, well-known and reviewed SPs will certainly benefit from a shift of the demand, as they will be considered as more reliable. The donations of occasional SPs may drop but they are pretty low already so probably not that much.

- Forum contributions and websites: Despite the fact that nothing prevents a SP from offering sexual service on her own and even if a contribution on a forum like this one may be a pure fantasy and does not prove that an actual meeting has happened, it seems quite obvious that both ads, website pages and reviews will be drafted in a more cautious way ("massage", "companionship", etc.) ; it is my understanding that perb itself has made specific requests in the same vein even if it's hosted abroad and cannot be shut down easily. Phone conversations are going to be the rule more than the exception and text messages or emails will not mention details. Some will be disapointed that reviews will be vague, but we will know at least whether a SP corresponds to the picture, offers good service...

So just to lighten the mood. I have a better chance to win the 649 then to be caught visiting my favorite independent sp in the city of Vancouver if I understand the writing on the wall.
Or would the chances be more like 1 in 1,000 or 1 in 10,000.
Shucks if you don't play you can't win or is that lose?!
Exactly :thumb:. I cant wait for the New Year to start, people will then see for themselves that it will business as usual in Vancouver. Smoking pot in public places isn't legal in the Fed's eyes, and yet you still see it being done everywhere lol.

Not a criminal offense but....how many people still talk on their cell while driving and don't get caught lol. Bizarre i tell you.

Unfortunately in Alberta it might be a differnt story given that we're in the Conservative party heartland. It's very hard forsee how C-36 will effect the hobby here in Alberta.

- Calgary's Police cheif supports the bill abiet he feels it's underfunded
- Mayor Don Iverson is wishy-washy and not really commiting to any course of action except that they will review their policies on MP licesning next month.
- The Calgary Mayor has refused to comment on C-36.

In Alberta, I guess we'll have to wait 3-4 months to see what police and Govenment will do in regards to C-36. A lot of guys I've chatted with are still very concerned.

Unfortunately for us, Alberta's politicians are spinless and lack the will to take the same initiative as their counterparts in BC and Ontario have.

i tried to engage with other cities in the lower mainland and even appealed for some help doing so but simply was unable to. i don't have a car and transit would mean alot of time away from work with no funding to pay for my time....meaning...it was difficult to pay rent as it was with all the time we spent on this work, if we had moved down the valley, i would be homeless.lol.

in any event, burnaby rcmp were being quite open and i interacted with them a few times while reporting violence and liaising with workers but they are federal police, have no police board and answer to ottawa. i recently learned a new female officer in burnaby had been appointed "human trafficking officer". myself and others are concerned about this and have been engaging through SWAN who represent many AMP workers. it is still unclear however what they will do in lieu of c-36....

anywhere in the lower mainland where rcmp are...which is most places....will be a problem.

i will contact the swan coordinator and inquire as to what if any progress they have made establishing some understanding with the rcmp and report back here....

so the short answer is, only the CoV proper can be guaranteed to be fair. we have no commitment from any other force in the lower mainland in this regard.

sorry, i wish i could have done more. and maybe if i lived in ottawa i could have prevented this whole gong show...but i don't...and here we are....funding is a major issue, as i have said before, i cannot afford to work on this full time, as much as i would love to,. i need to ensure i have a roof over my head and can pay my bills.

Hey, you got that right.

I'm just putting the finishing touches on packing up all my stuff and head out of here tomorrow night.

I'm moving to the continent of Antarctica, where prostitutes can advertise their menus and prices, and johns can openly discuss and pay for their services...:thumb:

That'll fix those effen politicians,...... and I think it's going to be cool, .... so....Arrivederci Bill C-36.

oh it'll be cool alright!

the only problem is, the only prostitutes there are penguins - but whatever floats your boat... :D

however, i hear they go for pretty good value

Prostitution in animals was first reported in 1998 by Fiona Hunter, a researcher at the University of Cambridge, and Lloyd Davis of the University of Otago, who had spent five years observing the mating behavior of penguins. The study was conducted as part of an Antarctica New Zealand programme on the Ross Island, approximately 800 miles (1,300 km) from the South Pole.

According to the report about the study published by BBC News Online, some female penguins sneak around on their partners. These prostitutes have sex with unattached males and take a pebble from the male's nest after having sex. Or they sometimes perform the courtship ritual as a trick and grab a stone without the sex (in the actual study the researchers speculate that the female has bent over to grab a stone and the male has misinterpreted the gesture--she hasn't changed her mind or performed a trick). BBC further reported Hunter as saying that the female penguins probably didn't engage in prostitution only for stones. Hunter believed "what they are doing is having copulation for another reason and just taking the stones as well. We don't know exactly why, but they are using the males." This behavior was also suggested as a mate choice process by which the females might find a possible future mate. This would provide a female penguin with another male penguin should their current mate die. The male penguins, the study speculates, were engaged in sex with the prostitute females only for sexual satisfaction. According to Hunter's observation, the number of prostitute penguins was very low, and she approximated this as "only a few percent."

While the sensationalized versions of the study emphasize prostitution, the research data itself is less sensational. The data shows that when extrapair copulation occurs at the male's nesting site, the female takes one or more stones; but when the extrapair copulation occurs at the female's nesting site, the male never takes a stone. Clearly a male who has copulated with a female benefits his progeny when she takes a stone. Sometimes copulation doesn't occur, but the female still takes a stone. But both males and females steal stones: sometimes they get away with it and sometimes they are attacked. The benefit of gaining stones without a fight is clear, but the female is not always willing to copulate to avoid a fight. The researchers speculate about the possible genetic fitness advantages and disadvantages of the practice, and aren't altogether sure that the female copulates mainly in order to obtain a stone.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_among_animals

apparently, if you read the details in the article quoted above, they use all the same tricks we often read about in the neighbourhood watch forum here on perb, so make sure you only go with well reviewed penguins

good luck on your journeys, and do check in to perb once a year, just to see when this fucked-up law makes it back to the supreme court... again :(

I think economics will play a bigger role in how Edmonton chooses to enfocre C-36. In reality, Edmonton doesn't have any money in the coffers to fund any additional police resources for Edmonton's Vice department. Harper and MCKay are not willing to kick in any funds to enfocrce the laws they're trying to impose. They expect the Provicnes and and the cities to pick up the tab.

The provicial Govenment is dealing with a funding crisis for Health Care. Without any money, it's hard to see how much will change in Alberta next year. No one has the money or resources here.

We'll have to see what happens here. We'll have to see if Calgary and Edmonton make any effort to enforce the new laws.

Without funding I can't imagine the new bill will be enforced passed opportunities to make a huge bust with good press.

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
Bill C-36 will soon be here. Random thoughts.

Tomorrow is Dec 6 and Bill C-36 comes into effect.
Thus at the stroke of midnight tonight we all become criminals. LOL!
How do you plan to mark this event?

Getting fucked, getting drunk, getting fucking drunk.

I personally am going to go out after work, have a nice meal and couple of drinks. Then although "retired" but not one to let this day pass without some kind of gesture, grab a bottle of wine and go visit one of my fine regulars for a couple of hours.

I think we need to start a pool as to the amount of time it will take before some fine upstanding politician who supported this entire nonsense is caught.

I wonder what BP will look like in few days?

I wonder what rates on BP will look like as girls try to attract guys to see someone you hope isn't a cop?

I wonder what rates will look lie on EC as guys start to see only ladies with solid reps, we know are not cops?

I've compiled a list of my favorite phone numbers in a safe place just in case anyone goes underground for the next while.

Cheers
