It will never come about. Politicians are corrupt but they aren't stupid. They do what they are told.I don't know about joining Alberta, but I do think that democracy would be best served if the Lower Mainland were to be carved out of B.C. to become a separate city state within Canada. As it stands, with so many people concentrated in the Lower Mainland, many of whom have no connection with or understanding of the rest of the province, we get political decisions that serve the interests and political prejudices of the Lower Mainland. Often these political decisions don't serve those who live in the "Interior" well.
The present boundaries of B.C. are a function of 19th century imperial policies, not present reality. However, that can be said for many jurisdictions in the world.
I don't actually believe that what I'm saying will ever come about. The politics of breaking up B.C. would be next to impossible.
Have you any IDEA how long it takes to shut down pumps??? Over that many miles??Let's not forget the Kinder Morgan pipeline already spewed about 250,000 litres in Burnaby with 70,000 litres making it into Burrard Inlet and contaminated over a km of coastline. It took them 25 minutes to shut down the line after the breach. They didn't recover all of the spill. That is only 1 of 81 self reported spills on the existing line.
I think where some BC residents are concerned is that KM and the Alberta government keeps saying relax, in case of a spill we'll use best practices to recover the oil and protect your coastline. The problem is best practices haven't worked to contain or cleanup oil spills (ie Exxon Valdez - 10% recovery; Deep Water Horizon - complete failure of containment and recovery). Maybe if the Alberta government guaranteed to pay a fine of a $1000 for every spilled liter of bitumen to compensate BC for ruining our coastline that would gain some confidence.
My point is that the technology sucks, spilling 250,000 litres is totally unacceptable! The breach was in an ideal location and it still caused extensive contamination. What would it have looked like in a less accessible location or if the oil was spilled in the more turbulent Salish Sea? Kinder Morgan tried to avoid taking any responsibility in 2007 and tried to counter sue Burnaby, what makes them a 'good' corporate citizen now? Why risk our coast? And bdan I live on the coast, I know what a marina looks like, that sheen ain't bitumen.Have you any IDEA how long it takes to shut down pumps??? Over that many miles??
25 minutes means they were ON it!!! HARD!!
Ever been to a marina on the coast? That sheen on the water isn't shampoo it's oil. THINK ABOUT THAT.
Any company anywhere will throw lawyers at a problem. You make it sound specific. It isn't.My point is that the technology sucks, spilling 250,000 litres is totally unacceptable! You are correct. It isn't. Bitumen in it's raw form sinks. Oil floats ... and suppresses oxygenthat sheen ain't bitumen.
Raw oil out of the ground has to be moved to a refinery, made into gasoline, then moved back.
That gas has travelled much farther than the distance from Kamloops to the nearest well.
The price of gas in Kamloops has a direct relation to tax and the property it's sold on.
There are very many large companies moving their headquarters to be managed in Kamloops, due to the availability of land , infrastructure ,labour, and the fact that 4 or 5 major highways meet up there.
Rent or purchase of land ,or brick and mortar is a fraction of Vancouver , and even Calgary.
Telus constructed their main server just inside the city limits for those reasons, and the other fact( believe it or not) that the ground around there, is the most geologically stable, in the province.
To be honest I do fuel up in the interior......right up to the point I can see it near the nozzle.Okay I get your guys points. Problem is that throughout the times I've travelled to Kamloops and further up the province
for the last 30 years the price of gas notoriously has always climbed the further north you got from the lower mainland,
Get to Merritt, 7-10 cents more a litre, get to Kamloops 12-15 cents more a litre.
Once you hit Barrier it sort of stablilized. Then when you got to Williams Lake or further north.
It could climb as much as 20 cents more a liter.
UNTIL NOW!!! So WTF is up with that bullshit. I smell a dirty rotten scoundrel somewhere in the woodwork
and it ain't the deer we're watchin sitting on our porch. A asked a tanker driver I was chatting with at a local gas
station where the gas came from that he was delivering and he told me the Esso refinery in burrard inlet.
He said the other two refineries were down for maintenance and that's why the gas is so expensive.
Also, since he was driving with Westcan which is sourced out of Alberta, (Calgary I believe) he told me straight
up that the gas that comes to Kamloops is trucked from the refineries in Alberta.
I sure as shit hope Notley doesn't hear about that one or she'll go on a tyraid that Kamloops
is getting their gas way cheaper than the lower mainland and exploit it.
Why is it every time things get all fucked up you can point a finger at a politician and know you are
bang on with blaming them.
Maybe we should have school children running our gov't. At least then we know they would have
an excuse for being so immature !!!:tsk::sad::stupid:

Actually SR, You are spreading some fake news. 58% of British Columbians oppose Kinder Morgan and support the BC NDPs approach (opposition is even higher in Quebec at 68% opposing the pipeline). Alberta's support for the pipeline is the out lier in Canada, so by your own definition Albertans are the nutjobs that should give it up.Logging\energy\mining will pay for them. You know, all those things that the protesters love to hate.
Yeah they love to hate them but at the same time they enjoy the benefits. They drive cars and consume anything and everything. At the same time they are like ZEALOTS with regards to protecting the "Sacred Goddess" which is the 3rd rock from the sun.You cant cut down trees as they are the children of Mother Earth. You cant drill for oil as you are draining the blood of "Mother Earth"...so on and so forth.Yet these people are fucking hypocrites that drive cars and use products that are derived from OIL.
Fuck I remember 25 years ago encountering some of these IDIOTS when I was looking to rent a room in Vancouver.I walked into the place and the dining room table had a 300 pound mound of mud on it with a big hole dug out on one end.I asked what that was and I was told is was an "Earth Mother" and it was going to be stuffed with a "cornucopia" come harvest time".....I just scratched my head and thought internally "these people are fucking WACKED"......who the fuck piles 300 pounds of MUD on a decent dining room table and keeps it there for 3 months?
As for "turning off the taps" with regards to OIL from Alberta to BC via the EXISTING pipeline....Rachel Notley STOLE Jason Kenney's thunder with regards to that idea of a threat..No effing way the current NDP government in Alberta would fuck over the new fledgling NDP Government in BC.....they are just a big ol gang of Socialists that is a National Party.
As for "turning off the taps" I am all for it.A month long embargo of no Alberta oil/gasoline to Vanvouver would be crippling to not only Vancouver but to the whole lower mainland and it would be even worse for northern BC....that 500 gram jar of cheese whiz would not be $8 it would be $16 and so on and the like for every staple from bread/milk/flour/butter/beer and the list is endless as it ALL has to be trucked up to there. At the same time the cost of food for the Yukon would go up because it HAS to be trucked up there.Perhaps a good ol "hurting" needs to be inflicted upon BC with regards to OIL that they use and are dependant upon.
The Kinder Morgan Pipeline has been in the ground for 60+ years and it solid. There have been no oil tanker spills like the Exxon Valdez on the BC coast EVER.
There is no way less than a 10th of 1% of angry nutjob "GREEN" with regards to the total population in the GVDR get to decide and choose that an expansion of an already EXISTING pipeline should go ahead. To listen to this NIMBY point of view is akin to agreeing to go along with the Salem Witch Hunt......well yeah she is a witch....she spoke in latin and she turned me into a newt.
Turn off the tap and lets see how BC goes down the tube and real fast.
SR
It is not really related to global markets, it is about local supply and demand. Yesterday, in Vancouver you paid $.878/litre before taxes, in Montreal you paid $.699/litre and in Halifax you paid $.655/litre.although in Hinton and area it is even cheaper....... Kamloops has a fuel storage facility here owned by Suncore. It is a central location. The price of fuel doesn't have anything to do with any of this though, it has to do with the world market altogether...if you really need to argue about this crap you need to be following the stocks of major investors.
The last report I read was that 58% of BC residents supported the pipeline expansion.Actually SR, You are spreading some fake news. 58% of British Columbians oppose Kinder Morgan and support the BC NDPs approach (opposition is even higher in Quebec at 68% opposing the pipeline). Alberta's support for the pipeline is the out lier in Canada, so by your own definition Albertans are the nutjobs that should give it up.
Actually, it’s all relative and you need to check your facts pal: I didn’t pay a fuckin thing for fuel yesterday! I stayed indoors. I will add that I use public transit. Thanks anyways. Just because I am a female and sit in my dungeon doesn’t mean I don’t know how the world works, and just maybe in fact, that could just very well be the reason I DO stay in my fucking dungeon. :dance:It is not really related to global markets, it is about local supply and demand. Yesterday, in Vancouver you paid $.878/litre before taxes, in Montreal you paid $.699/litre and in Halifax you paid $.655/litre.
