My father was a WW 2 veteran as were many of his friends, in all branches. They had minimal if any actual training. They were in shape because they were under 20. Most of us were in shape at that age as well. The thing they all had in common was youth. My Dad was 16 years old. They were not killing machines, they went for the adventure of it all. Their enemy was just like them young and scared shitless. As I recall they were all pretty much bleeding heart woke pussy liberals. Maybe war taught them something.
Not true.
Military units from Canada were in Britain from the first years of the WW2. Failures at Dieppe (1942), incited changed for planned attack, with the troops practicing what they would be doing for D-Day. Like following behind a creeping artillery barrage (WW1)-example.
Physical training and rifle training, hand to hand were given to the troops. The American 101st got to Britain in Sep 1943. Trained in Britain till D-Day.
Some one shoots at you, you shoot back and aim to kill. Why, so they don't kill you. By the end of the war they were killers. They had to be, to survive.
Today people go mindless when a baby seal is killed.... because modern pictures and film brought it into the public life. A lot of soldiers coming back from WW2 did not talked about their experiences with their families.
As with any "use of force" situation, lethal force is the last option to take.
In Bosnia, Canadian soldiers were at the woke end of political drowning of stupid politicians. The troops were told not to fire back, if fired on. This created a shit-storm in the CAF, finally years later the idiots in charge added self-defense of the soldier to the ROE.... Hoping for a nice and peaceful world and everything can be solved by diplomacy. That shit dosen't work unless you have the balls to back it up with deadly force, should it ever need to come to it.
That is why every soldier should be trained to kill.
