From what I know about the war in Ukraine, it seems to be at a stalemate, with lots of soldiers and civilians being killed. It seems that the rest of the human race is non-chalantly going about its own business ignoring the war in the Ukraine. Even with genocide of the Ukraine population countries and people are not paying attention to this situation.

If nukes go off, how prepared are Canadians to deal with the results (fallout) of tacticle nuclear weapons. Radiation poisoning, or if the shit gone viral, a nuclear winter. Where all food supplies just fucken end....with billions that are left willing to do anything....

So the question is will Putin kill more people than Stalin did?

Stalin killed 16 million, of his own people through forced starvation alone…..never mind the people killed in battle.
That sets the bar fairly high, but if anyone could come close, it would be Putin with nuke technologies….

I’m hoping for a coup like The Death of Stalin.
Russia needs someone like Zhukov.
Shoigu and Gerasimov are just spineless asskissers.

If big dady uncle sam wanted, this war would have ended on day one. Instead USA and it's lieutenants (Canada one of them) keep on supplying ammunition to Ukraine, feeding the war.

The Russians would stop killing once they conquered Ukraine? There would have been no WWII if we let the Axis Powers run rampant?

Russia is also busy killing in a bunch of other countries, Ukraine is just the one getting the most media attention.
Russia is busy getting fucked up in Chechnya, for example.
Georgia will be next. Russia has followed the Hitler-Sudeten playbook there as well as in Ukraine. Flood the region with Russian nationals, then invade to protect them. Russia was threatening to do it in the Baltic states since the mid nineties as well.
Georgians are trying to oust their pro Putin government and Putin is getting antsy.

A former president of Russia said on Russian TV that Russia should attack all the way to Portugal.
Lots of other Russian commentators have made similar comments.
NATO can stop Russia in the Ukraine or stop them in Germany or France.
If Russia is not stopped in Ukraine it will keep going.

Putin can stop the UKR war anytime. Just get the fuck out.

I don't understand this argument. Are you saying Russia was on killing spree, raging wars like U.S and allies (hello Canada)? If you keep on provoking someone relentlessly and when they retaliate, you start bitching about it.

Go visit Chechnya.
Who was in Afghanistan a dozen years before the Americans?

How are countries like Poland provoking Russia by joining NATO? How exactly is that a provocation that justifies invading Ukraine?

Remember your innocent angelic Russians had an agreement with Hitler to divide Poland between them? And Russia invaded Poland at the same time as Germany? Russians didn’t have a problem being friends with Nazis then.

Starving Berlin after WW2 by shutting down all the roads and the west had to fly food and coal into Berlin. Squashing revolts in Hungary 1954, Czechoslovakia 1968, Russia was brutally repressive. Killed people in the streets and shipped many more to gulags.

Funny how Russia had to build a wall across Europe to prevent people from escaping to the West eh? If Russia so great why aren’t there throngs of refugees moving to Russia for a better life?

We're screwed.

If COVID pandemic taught us anything is that we are not a united country, it wouldn't be hard for CCP-China or Russia to invade and maintain a foot-hold on this country.
Completely incorrect. Any type of invasion build up would be transparent to satellites and Canada would look to the US for support immediately. With their naval and air power, the invasion force doesn't even make the shore.

Staging a coup in Ukraine against a pro Russian President, inviting Ukraine to join NATO. I would say this is provocation. West should just mind their business. You should just ask one question, who is benefiting out of this war? Definitely not Russia and Ukraine.

You're so funny. Who's "bitching about" helping Ukraine and thus "feeding the war"?

So Russia isn't killing people by waging this war? And isn't it obvious that invading Ukraine just push them even more to the West? Now even Sweden and Finland (of all countries!) want to join NATO. It's because they don't want to be THE NEXT UKRAINE.

I guess Putin is just a rabid dog. Stop "provoking" him and his hunger would have been satiated by Crimea?

Russia invaded Finland not too long ago.
Pretty much anyone who lives near Russia hates Russians.
Even Londoners hate the Russian oligarch trash that has ruined the nicer parts of London. Lavrov’s daughter lives there, despite him constantly calling the West decadent.

You should meet some actual Ukrainians.
I met some at night school in the 90s and 2000s. There are lots of Ukrainian refugees in the hotels around where I work. I work with lots of them, have a few in my neighbourhood, and many have been back to Ukraine in the last few years.
Funny that not a single one of them has ever said they want to be closer to Russia.
NOT ONE!
Every one of them supports the fight against invading Russians.

Well I don't go around hating Russians and bitching about Putin because it's the current trend. I did not start this thread. I just don't care. As I said mind your own business. Don't overthrow other nations governments, don't fund wars, stay in your lane etc.

I keep telling people there are no "good guys" in this thing. The media (of any sort) is just a tool of someone to push the shallowest and most scripted nonsense, some "white hats vs. black hats" version of what's going on. Not saying it is not tragic and worthy of feeling angry, quite the opposite.

This war was completely avoidable, and Ukraine never needed to become a proxy battlefield between great powers, but it was building up to that for literally decades before bullets and bombs really began to fly. Moves, and countermoves, setting bad precedents and triggering escalations. Instead of cutting some deal where they back off and agree to just not fuck with each other, deeply entrenched dishonesty, greed, and aggression won out. There's always that overriding desire to get what they want, and say fuck the consequences (because those are payed by someone else). The level of public lies and private treachery going on would astonish people if they understood how deep it runs and how constant it is. I'm not talking about conspiracy theory bullshit - I'm talking about just paying attention to things long term, and not being induced to forget how we all got to this point.

In public, the diplomats say what they're supposed to in the moment, all of them "very concerned" about how bad the other side is. In private they know they are just like defense lawyers defending a serial killing cannibal. As a diplomat, foreign minister, or national leader your job is to keep up the false front, no matter how much your own side is equally dripping with evil, you've got to either pretend it never happened, or else insist it's somehow someone else's fault despite all the evidence.

Like I said, there are no good guys.

Well Canada needs to spend more on defence. It needs to swing its own weight around. Canada needs newer equipment and getting younger people into the military.
