Not really. Canada is stuck between 2 superpowers. The declining US superpower and the up and coming China superpower. Or should I say economic declining American power compared with the rising economy of China.
As I look at America's economic power, it is declining. Fracking for oil. Bad environmental record. To make profits the American companies went to the Far East, to hong Kong, Twaiwan and China (that iphone you use is made in China). America hasn't yet depleted its natural resources.
China has the elements for high technology equipment (rare earth elements).
In Canada we don't have any heavy industry compared to America, Britian and the rest of the world. (think gobalism)
China will be hungry for resources, and the far north of Canada will be its target. And the far north is a miserable place.
The military in Canada is controlled by the civilian authorities. Which is the Minister of National Defence. Since the early 70s military spending has been cut to the CAF, basicly making them boy scouts with no equipment. The equipment we do have is aging and most major pieces of equipment are over 20 years old.
Although I hate to say it, Canada military's equipment is sadly lacking. If you don't have the equipment, you can't survive out in the cold. Let alone fight in it. If Trudeau wants to invite China to watch our soldiers floundering in the snow, then so be it.
Sun Tzu, the Art of War- get to know your enemy by becoming your enemies friend... ( or there abouts). So if you think they are spying on us, we are spying on them too probally. Then we share our infomation too... with our friends.
The reality is who ever leaked the memo/letters, should not of done that. Unless it was meant to be released....
