Selfish asshole! I'm generally not a violent person but I've always said people like this didn't get enough beatings when they were young. Meaning they grew up entitled and think they can just do whatever the fuck they want and not suffer any consequences.
I'n my era, and likley the area I grew up in, if you fucked someone around or even had a big mouth there was usually a beating down the road, just waiting for you.

This covid thing has shown what alot of people have known for a long time. The bad shitty care old folks get at retirement homes. Now is the time to deal with this crap at old folks home. Not 20 years from now!! The lack of care and maintenance and cleaning at old folks homes are atrocious. It all falls under budget cutting and profit margins.

In the meantime due to all government spending (prov and federal), the bosses to be are bean counting again- hitting the maintenance budgets for building like hospitals and public buildings in order to save money (yes this is going on behind the scenes). Yes they did that years ago. What happened was 10 years of neglecting machinery and heating and cooling of buildings have take a toll on the building, then they start to spend money on them 7 years ago, now with covid, maintenance budgets are gonna take a big hit. Think hospitals.

Also cleaning budgets will get hit. If I don't have to use this wing, I don't have to clean it.

So when there are 40 people per hospitals ICUs (overflow) time (number of hospitals) equalls (hell of shitty time for people in ICUs).... Which show the really smart asshole that he was wrong on his/her predictions on how many people would need an ICU. Even in pandemic conditions....(their reasoning was it the pandemic was never gonna happen).... Yes I am pointing the finger at these smug fuckers, who should stand up and take it in the proverbial ass. This includes the administrators and the planners.... These are the bosses who think their shit doesn't stink..... I guess these days they are smelly.....

So the thing would be to increase hospital space, and by adding more workers at the hospital. Give nurses more responsibility in hospitals, even operations if you have to open up surgery and stuff. (McLeans in the 1990s had a good article on this why we are short doctors in Canada--- they didn't see a future need for more doctors so limited the number in classes)- yup- that biteing them in the ass now....

One problem is that hospitals weren't build as containment floor or wings or sections where all piping, water, sewage and air are separated from one another. Cause its cheaper just to maintain one system each for heating, water, and air......

Any back up buildings for overflow of patients should be built on the same lines of a hospital that can have separated sections (and separate utilities).

WoW, imagine planing for a public disaster, we as a populace don't do that, we take the cheapest crap that the politicians sell us....

So far the Canadian result is 300,000 people positive, and 11,000 deaths..... so out of a population of 37,000,000 that is alot of people to catch covid, before the pandemic is over.

It will take years at this rate...... and we are only in the 2nd wave......

On a positive note, our society will have to change for the betterment of our fellow citizens of Canada. Plan for the long term, disaster planning, generational planning should be our goals....

Having 2 weeks of enforced time off has been very good for me. I had been doing six 12 hour shifts a week and was going nuts. I didn’t realise how tired I was until I got a few good sleeps. You never realise how important decent sleep is until you don't get it for a few months.

OMG, hilarious!! just for clarity.... most show lounges are closed due to "opening time" restrictions. made it impossible for club owners to stay open. i am very worried about dancers...

when they closed 22 show lounges in 3 years just prior to 2010, it was a gong show.

we have similar numbers in AB, granted we have a larger population

so per/pop you have higher numbers, but absolute numbers, % in hospital/ICU per cases isn't that different

just a little FYI with first hand knowledge. almost every socialized public hospital in Canada operates in the 90-115% occupancy range. it’s like the airlines booking an extra 5% on average to account for no shows. then Covid hits. all ER ICU and AC now have to partition for isolated locations. Covid specific staff too. staffing runs anywhere from 5-10% understaffed even with designated Casuals. once they allocate Covid specific staff it’s much higher. OT call outs are becoming constant. Covid tips the entire scale even at 200+ with 25+ intubated or on regulated O2. not many units can admit and treat severe Covid, so they get sent to a Centralized Covid Specific hospital. OPERATION OVERLOAD. hadju couldn’t secure enough quality PPE. let alone JT failure at recruiting the much needed surplus of capable hospital workers. good luck Canada it is only NOVEMBER.

I recently had my own appointments at VGH for a somewhat serious medical issue blown off because of the second wave. And at the present time they cant even give me rescheduled appointment dates for the distant future.

I'll say it AGAIN....the masks that people are wearing are useless....90% of the people I see wearing a mask are showing gaps....specially around the nose.... I always do a seal check on my mask...it's 3 layers with the middle layer of copper materials. People wear those little blue mask which are useless after 4 hours of use. How about education people about how to insure your mask is being used properly......all they are concerned is about numbers, numbers and more numbers.

This where I get my masks from....they are expensive but they give me the proper protection.

Unfortuneatly when you talk about seal, how do you determine you have a seal? Most people would check for seal by shutting off the inlet valve (in the mask case the whole of the fabric area) breath in (which should suck your mask inwards to your face). Hold your breath and the mask still stick to your face until you breath out again. Only the mask sucked to your face (will holding your breath) will indicate to you how good your seal is.... Firefighter masks, gas mask etc are the references for this sealing.

Most of these mask (the blue one and yours) have a metal strip across the top (around your nose and across your cheeks). The metal strip is a 2D solution, but your face is 3D. A gas mask has a inner nose cup (that is curved) that when squished against your face forms a 3D seal on the area around your nose and mouth.

Which means you are always gonna have leakage on a cloth mask.... around all the sides of the cloth mask. A solution for a better seal would be a silicone seal on all the edges of the cloth mask in the form of an elongated C shape.

Now think about the ways cold air gets into your house, it comes in every crack in the walls and around doors and windows. Your mask is just like the house, it leaks air.

The Path of least resistance....

Also pretty sure the copper washes out after so many washings.....otherwise you would develop a green copperly tinge around where you use the mask.... (Or copper infused socks).

If you want to check your mask out for seal, put saran wrap over the outside of all the cloth (not on the underside of mask contacting the skin), put mask on and breath in and hold your breath and see what happens...

The best affordable sealing mask would be a painters half-mask (has 2 filters, 1 left and 1 right). Air come thru the organic (carbon filter) into mouth and air goes out through a check-valve in front. The seal around the mouth and nose is rubber or silicone. cons - it is heavy.

Another thing is with the straps around the ears. To get a really good seal it has to be tight, and wearing that string around the ears over long hours is painfull. The best is around the back of your head, with any straps missing your ears.

Another thing about sealing a mask, if you have a beard, well shave it off.... You are never gonna get a good seal with a beard. Your beard will leak just like a drafty house....
