To start out I will say that Costco ROCKS.It really does with regards to a lot of stuff.Get some bagels and they are half the price and it is even cheaper for bread.Bring on the meat and it is a no brainer to buy a whole striploin and carve your own steaks and it gets better if you like the premo cut of the tenderloin.
That being said there are a few things at Costco NOT to buy if you are a single guy or even if you have a family.
#1 is that huge jug of maple syrup....unless you make pancakes 7 days a week for 2 years you will not consume it.....most likely you will die and leave the remainder to somebody in your will.
#2 is soy sauce....it comes in a 1 litre plastic bottle....and unless you own an Asian restaurant you wont use it.....it sits there on the shelf or in the condiment compartment in the door until you sadly discover it when you want to use it only to find out it is 6 months past it's expiration date.
And lastly is that BIG 2 kilogram jar of peanut butter......that is a LOT of peanut butter. If you have kids and you send them off to school each day and make peanut butter cookies on a weekly basis it makes sense.....if not well you paid for a massive jar of peanut butter that will go bad over the course of time.
