I do concur on the rotisserie BBQ chicken.Best VFM there is at Costco....same thing at Safeway etc is half the size and costs almost half as much more.

I really want to do a 3 day road trip down to Montana and hit a Costco in the USA and SPLURGE and do it proper buy using coolers for meat etc.Costco in the USA has a veritable shitload of products that we dont get in Canada.Best example would be the frozen seafood dinner in a foil bag.2 lobster tails along with crab legs and baby clams as well as baby potatoes in a herbed butter sauce. It is supposed to feed 2 Americans "generously" so you just know 2 Canadians would be stufffed to the gills.....best part it just slide it into the oven or put it on the grill for 30 minutes and FEAST.

I hate Costco. I always go in for one or two things and $500-$800 and my car is full. I have learned to eat before I shop, cuts down a little.

What exactly is the appeal of the Costco gas bar?
The lineups are out of proportion to the so-called "savings". Pricing looks minimally less. 2 cents/litre? So savings for an average car is about a buck?
I find that Safeway has the best gas prices consistently- and with the grocery savings coupon of 15 cents/litre discount they can't be beat! That's about $20/tank for my truck, and I'm filling up weekly. And the discount is regardless of pump price- based strictly on volume.
I figured Costo gas must be 50c cheaper per liter for anyone to tolerate that lineup. At only 2-3 cents cheaper thats just dumb. There's a Coctco near me and the lineup everytime I drive past looks about a 30 minute wait. At 50c cheaper I still wouldn't wait in that line.

I didn't know Safeway sold gas but I will be checking out that option.

Me either but Canadian SuperStore does and you also get coupon to use instore which increases with the amount of gas you buy. Don't remember how much but it was per liter.

Back in the day when I lived 70 km from the nearest grocery store and 200 km from the nearest Costco I bought a large double pack of 1\2 gallon mustard pump jugs. When I retired some 12 years later, I still had 1.5 jugs left.

It never goes bad.

Frugal is one thing but that still makes me shake my head.

Gotta love the seafood quality though, well, at least this far from the ocean you do.

Funny enough I had a friend in Revelstoke do a road trip to Calgary a few years back just to hit Costco on my membership and that is about a 3 hour drive and damn did he ever splurgeAll told he spent $1500.Whilst going through the store he started loading in the strip loin steaks whilst saying "what a bargain"....I then pointed out the WHOLE striploins and said "30 minutes of work per piece and you get the same thing but for far less".....out go the trays of steaks and into the cart go a couple of striploins.....he opted for premium toilet paper and I said "so you like wiping your ass with money huh?.....out with the premium and on with the Kirkland brand. After about 15 minutes he started to get smart. All told he stuffed his F-150 crew cab that had a canopy to the gills and he got everything you can think of.He saw the 3 packs of bread for $6.95 and bought 6 of them and the same for the bagels.Throw in a couple of 5 kilo boxes of perogies as well as multiple packs of the all beef weiners as well as the bacon and he also bought a couple of industrial sized boxes of tampons as he was shacked up with a GF who had 2 teenaged daughters. He also bought roasts etc for beef and a couple of those long pork tenderloins but shied away from seafood as well as the fancy stuff such as the racks of lamb.

That haul lasted him and the GF with 2 teenagers 3 MONTHS whilst eating like kings....I asked him what it would have cost to buy it in Revelstoke(and keeping in mind the meat would not be as good) and he said it would have cost $4500 and for less quality product.Hell if I still lived in Revelstoke I would do the 3 hour road trip as well considering a lousy 450 gram loaf of bread costs $6 and a mediocre steak costs $15 and the expiration dates on both run maybe for 4 days.

not sure the food regulations in terms of seafood crossing the boarder, might want to check that

meat, fruit, vegetables, are all a concern regarding border crossings, not sure what the seafood from the US into Canada issues are

.....and that is the problem with living in, or near small interior towns. Your lucky to get the produce home before it goes bad.
Hell I've seen them try to sell milk products that are 3 days overdue, and last week I saw mandarin oranges on for 2 bucks a box......if you could get them to the cashier because the boxes were deteriorating so bad from the juices running out of them.
They even place red tags over shit saying SALE.........if you turn up that red tag, you'll realize that it's the same full price, because they are to lazy to pull the old price tag still sitting underneath.
I find its more than worth it to drive the 3 hours to get to a larger urban centre......just so my cucumbers last for more than 3 days, and my pizza doesn't taste bad from week old mushrooms.
I've walked out carrying three bags of groceries and spent a hundred bucks, just to have half of it go bad, and attract bears into my yard, because I have to throw it out....meanwhile I'll spend 300 at superstore and it'll last me a month.

Also with that gas purchase at StupidStore. Isn't that what everyone calls it. LOL!
If you have the points card every couple of months or so they have it where if you buy 40 dollars or
more of gas you get 5000 points. That's equal to 5 bucks you can buy in groceries using the points.

I agree about their roasted chickens, but my favourite thing? The Hebrew National kosher hotdogs...
That makes perfect sense I noticed you had a thing for a big wiener in a Bun! I’m with you on that, I love those $1.50 Hotdog and drink specials, the sauerkraut isn’t there anymore like it once was but what a deal. I try not to buy the whole packs of those things cause I don’t think they are a healthy thing to chow regularly but a real treat in the store.

The gas at Costco doesn't have any of the additives you get from the big name gas stations. I wouldn't run it in my vehicle on a regular basis. Might be ok for the odd fill up or putting into a rental car. Same with any other generic gas station. Most gas comes from the same place or tank farm but what sets them appart is the different additives companies put into the gas.

things i buy at Costco. big container of unsalted mixed nuts. Energy bars. Canned fish (Salmon and Tuna) Canned Chicken. I have been putting the dates on when i buy things with a sharpie. Still working on a bottle of Sunlight dish soap. Have about 1/4 of it left. Bought it in Nov 2011 :) I use it several times a day so i have no idea why it is lasting so long.

Same for Paper Towel. Toilet paper and boxes of Kleenex. Also some of those blue shop towels. Bought in Nov 2015. Still working on them.
Also get things like batteries and fresh fruits. Love their cheese, the Gruyere and Dubliner.

Finally decided to do away with the Keurig i got 4 yrs ago. Did not like the waste of all those pods. Got a coffee grinder at Costco and got the whole been Tanzania Coffee. Love it. Got a single serve coffee maker at London Drugs that was on sale. Much better coffee than the Keurig. Never going back.

I buy boxes and boxes of baby wipes, toilet paper, Kleenex, laundry soap and softener. All work related. Also buy the sunlight dish soap, coffee. Family packs of meat, divide, vacuum pack and freeze. I only buy what I figure I can use up in a year, (meat within 2 weeks) if the packaging is bigger than that I buy elsewhere in smaller quantity. Most things I find I use up within short time so not an issue. The things not to buy is what you didn't originally go for, the impulse buying will kill you every time. :(

That jug of maple syrup is the best price in town. I go through one every 2 months or so as I use it as a substitute for sugar in smoothies and stuff like that. I also eat pancakes once a week.

One thing I totally do not recommend are the chicken chimichangas in the freezer section. They are mostly just a thick flour tortillas with very little filling. Can’t even finish them they’re so gross.

You have to bake those in the oven and slather them with Costco’s mango salsa and sour cream, now I feel like digging them out of the freezer.

I love those things, I crisp them up in my airfryer and pour Tomatillo Salsa Verde on them for a tart spicy sauce and sour cream on top of that.

totally addicted to them..
