The Revenant: Finally, I caught this one. Brilliantly shot, very well directed, the locations are exquisite, the action is breathtaking in some scenes. But......... it's too long, despite being captivated by the visual treat, I couldn't help looking at my watch. May be it is was the dark, dreary, gory, cold feeling that the movie carries with it.

For my money the best actor in the movie was not Leonardo, it was Tom Hardy as the bad guy. He has impressed me in every movie I have seen him in. In my humble opinion, Leonardo is a very good actor and he was good in this role, but I felt that his role was tailor made for him and it was Tom Hardy who stole the scenes he was in. Overall a very good movie but extra extra long, but it is enjoyable nevertheless.
I was going to type the same thing about Tom Hardy vs Leonardo.

If you hear him speaking with his real East London accent, you would never know it was the same person.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was the first film I noticed him and then Mad Maxx which were quite good and the 1930's era bootlegging movie "Lawless" was the one he owned the screen IMHO.

He will absolutely stun you with his performances in Legend, where he plays both Kray twins. Gangsters in London in the 1960's, and Bronson - Britain's most violent prisoner.

Dirty Grampa- If you need a laugh, this pretty good, not gut busting funny but worth a look.
Deniro is Deniro as the funny str8 man lecherous oldtimer, Zac Ephron doesn't have a comedic touch but the writing is what carries him thru. The cast is also entertaining.

I saw him first in the movie The Drop (2014). His Brooklyn accent was so good, that I couldn't tell that he is English. After watching the movie, I looked him up and realized he is from England. He is GOOD.

He is very good.

First film i saw him in was Star Trek Nemesis. You could tell he was young talented actor on the rise. Next film was Inception and there was a buzz about him; getting good reviews for his performance.

And then of course The Dark knight Rises, just totally unrecognizable in that role. Locke, The Drop, Warrior, Mad Max but the easily his best performance in my opinion ( and a few other peoples minds as well) is Bronson.

Probably his Raging Bull.

I also have to agree that Hardy's performance in The Revenant was a little better than DiCaprio.

Yes i have developed a man crush for Tom Hardy.

Valley Uprising on Netflix

I'm into documentaries and this one is about 50 years of rock climbing at Yosemite Park.

Absolutely stunning photography, climbing Half Dome and El Capitan in the early days with Royal Robbins to today's climbers doing it without ropes. If you are at all queezy about heights, this one with scare the crap out of you while safely sitting on your couch.

Lots of history and counter culture stories told in this one. Like the drug laden plane crash in the 1970's that made people rich and high for a very long time ;)

BTW if you are into amazing places on earth, Yosemite is an awesome example of Mother Natures Beauty!

Thanks for posting.
I had booked someone at 10 and she didn't confirm, didn't respond to my texts and when i called, there was no response either. That was more than an hour ago and saying that I was pretty upset would be an understatement.
Trying to divert my attention, I logged in and ssaw this post and then got busy watching this movie. lol.

Strange how it works. Thanks again.

Legend (2015) :While we are still talking about Tom Hardy, I finally watched Legend. It is a story of twin gangsters of London from 60's. Tom Hardy has impressed me every time I have seen him and this time was no different. The movie is all about him. The way he played both brothers is just brilliant. It is hard to say which role did he do more justice to. I was just thinking that the movie itself without him in would be .... ok-ish, but the cast steals the show. If you haven't watched it yet, I strongly recommend, esp for Tom Hardy fans. Movie seems a bit long, but still it is pretty enjoyable. 7/10

Inception: I know this movie has been around for a while now, but I never got the chance to see it despite some solid recommendations. It is a great sci-fi thriller. The concept is unique and the acting is great. Again Tom Hardy is in it although he gets a smaller share of screen time because he is not in the lead. I loved the movie in terms of acting, special effects, screen play and every other thing. It can get confusing sometimes, but I just enjoyed the ride nevertheless. 6/10

Conjuring 2- there was something about the pace and story and acting that made me walk out of the movie. I saw the 1st one and though it was a 6.5 out of 10. I only paid 5.50 to see the Conjuring 2 so I was not that sad about it. Many have loved the film, but I thought it was beyond bad.

Tom Hardy as a 1920s criminal Jew, with zero scruples, in charge of a gang of thugs, is fascinating to watch. And the best news is that he is just one VERY GOOD ACTOR in this series. Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory are also excellent in this series. I am speaking of course of the series "Peaky Blinders". The 3rd season just ended. From what I understand, 2 more seasons to follow. Each season is only 6 eps long to date ;-(

Tom Hardy also excellent in Lawless. A very good movie with other good actors like Jessica Chastain.

When nothing new is good enough to watch, I go back and try to catch up on some movies that I missed.

Syriana(2005): This is one of George Clooney's earlier movies. He got seriously hurt while filming the torture scene. He falls to the floor while tied to the chair and that's where he hit his head to the floor. The movie didn't do too well, but critics loved it, so did I. He put on lots of weight and grew beard for this role. Very well acted, and equally well filmed. The story is against the Persian Gulf backdrop with a tense story line. In fact there are about four stories that run parallel and they bring it all together at the end. Enjoyed it thoroughly. 7/10

Europa Report (2013): I remember reading positive reviews and finally I found it online. No big stars in it, biggest star is the movie itself. It is about an ill-fated mission to Europa, one of Jupiter's moons. It is deliberately slow paced, or atleast they have made it seem like that. But it is quite tense and the story is well told. This no so big budget movie is fun to watch, esp if you are into movies based on space. 6.5/10

In Pussyland
Warcraft...meh
Syriana...decent, Altmanesk in style
Inception..needlessly long and complex, and ultimately not compelling
10 Cloverfield Lane...really good thriller with great acting, but a rather cornball ending
All things must pass, The rise and fall of tower records...best doc I have seen in ages, a must see for music fans
The Worlds Fastest Indian...Great biopic, funny, charming, lots of motorcycles?, Anthony Hopkins is perfect
Mr Turner...Good biopic about the last years of the life of WJM Turner the First of the Impressionist Painters, It is a slow film.
The Finest Hours...not bad. a Disney true thriller about the most famous small boat coast guard rescue in American history.
Red Planet...better than average SF Mars picture, liked it
X-men, Appocalypse.....meh, typical overdone x men sequel, wait for it to show up out of theaters
All the Way...one of the best films I have seen in quite awhile, about LBJ and the start of "the great society" a must see for boomers. Fascinating and great performance from Bryan Cranston as LBJ.
The 5th Wave...OK, typical alien survivalist flick, wait for it on small screen
World War Z...loved it, best zombie flick I have seen in ages.
Hail Caesar...funny, stylish, everybody is great in this old school comedy
After Earth...OK SF, the most ridiculous monster in ages, don't spend money, wait till you are really bored
Mr Holmes...Sherlock struggles with memory loss. Not your typical SH picture, good acting though. Not a comfortable film to watch.
Moon...pretty good SF with a clever premise from 2009
Victor Frankenstein...Bad
Child 44...loved it, Tom Hardy is brilliant, based in the early 50's (around the time of Stalin's death) Soviet era, a child murder runs wild in the workers paradise where murder does not exist as that is a capitalist disease.
13 Hours; The secret soldiers of Benghazi...best war movie I have seen since "TANK". See it. Kinda like Blackhawk Down.
Frost Nixon..a must see for boomers or those interested in 60-70s era politics. Goes well with All The Way. Liked it a lot.

That should be good for now more to follow...stay tuned

I watched a bunch in theatres so I'd figure I'd update:

Conjuring 2: Not as good as the first, its more of a drama but has some solid parts. If you enjoy horror films or the first one, then go
Finding Dory: Not as good as the first, but still a light hearted little adventure movie for all ages
Central Intelligence: Skip it, wait for dvd
Independence Day Resurgence: Its missing Will Smith for sure, but it has enough visual thrills for a decent summer blockbuster, think one time viewing
