I chuckled about 2017 report on Norwegian skiing team. 50-70% of them are diagnosed with asthma and are taking asthma medications. One hell of coincidence they are the country's best athletes.
Dry extreme cold can cause asthma. It's well documented amongst kids who spend many hours and many days at the rink. Same for cross country skiers.

A former Mil guy I knew trained in the Arctic for the biathlon and always had a puffer with him. He never required it down south.

I watched the snow boarding last night. Never been on a board and those athletes have tons of talent. Doing a 720 and nailing a landing is beyond believable.

The IOC is a bunch elitist assholes at best...Samaranch used to demand people address him as "Your Excellency"....but this shows how clueless they are:
An American member thinks the joint Korean women's hockey team deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.
Meanwhile North Korea has massive penal camps starving and torturing its citizens to death. North Korea does everything it can to destabilise the region.
No way does anyone associated With NK deserve a peace prize.
Stupidest thing I have seen so far this year.

Used to love the Olympics, until I found out about the International Olympic Committee. Between these leeches, grifters, and layabouts, the obsession with pulling in advertising dollars and the many drug scandals, I’ve just given up.

Am I missing anything by not tuning in to speed skating, or two-man luge? Or any other sport that is virtually invisible between Olympics, and whose athletes I have no no idea who they are?

The ideals of the Olympics long ago disappeared in pursuit of money, money money. They exist solely as an advertising vehicle now.
I watched "Icarus" last night, it's a documentary that shows how the Russians orchestrated the state sponsored doping for Sochi, and how the corruption is wide spread beyond all borders and politics.
This the 1st winter olympics I'm not watching, prolly because the NHLets are missing.

I like the Olympics. Of course, the hockey means a lot to me. The Olympic golds Canada fought to get in 2002, 2010, 2014, and Bettman continues to ruin the NHL (especially for Canadians), so the NHL not allowing its players to represent their country SUCKS.

However, when it comes to the Olympics, I like seeing some of those other sports too. When else do you get to see stuff like that ? Each has its niche audience, but only once every 4 years do they have the whole world's attention. So here's to the less covered sports: ski jumping, biathalon, speed skating, ski & snowboard cross, downhill skiing, etc.

A lot of blood, sweat, tears and sacrifice for these athlete's.
We're in 3rd, only 2 back of Germany, and well ahead of the States! :whoo:

The accidental gold medallist:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/16/sports/olympics/lindsey-vonn-super-g.html

Throughout her news conference, Ledecka seemed less astounded that a ski racer who splits her time on the snowboarding pro circuit could win an Olympic Alpine gold medal than her inquisitors. Asked to explain how she could be good at both, Ledecka responded:

“Well, it’s down a hill, both of them, right? That’s the basics.”

Was watching the Olympics today and they started blabbing about all the athlete issues so I switched stations and found myself watching the Fail Army. Hell that was way more entertaining and you could really feel their pain as well as their stupidity but it is ultimate human drama!

Check your closet..:)
I watch the Olympics on the french channel. At least they are describing what is going on.
And I don't watch it on the English side from the Corrupted Broadcasting Cronies . I watch TSN.

Loving these Olympics and even found myself getting caught up in the drama and romance of ice dancing (I usually am not fond of judged sports). As loved in Canada as it is, the one game that bores me to tears, is curling.

Canada v Germany up next in the Men's semi final hockey game.

Finland was tough and Germany beat the Swedes in OT to make the semi v Canada. Really great hockey!

I would bet, to a degree, all athletes at that level, have a doping regimen. Every one of them. Too much incentive not to.

The Olympics aren't about sport any longer, they are about bragging rights. And don't even get me started on "amateur" status. lol
I couldn’t agree more. It’s laughable calling most of the Olympic athletes amateurs. When my mom was young she was an Olympic level diver. She couldn’t even take a $500 payment from a sundance trampolines advertisement she did and still compete in the olympics. She was 13 years old! There is no amateur sport left. You need so much sponsorship just to have a chance at competing. It sadly just comes down to who has deeper pockets and better scientists to whip up undetectable drugs. Oh and politics. I still like to watch though. I love the skiing and biathlon. Heck, I’ll even watch curling if canada is vying for a medal. :)

Good Women's Hockey Gold game last night. Taking silver losing in the shootout. High energy, great skills and some big hits. Zebras tilted in favour of the US. At one point Canada went to the box 6 times, USA 0. Overlooking their constant interference non calls.

Shootout is not the best way to end a Gold medal game but thems the rules.
