Pettey is carrying a huge contract and is way underperforming. Likely scenario Canucks would have to help pay his salary for a long time.

Though I’d prefer to see Miller stay it’s better to remove an easier tradable player and get some value from incoming players.

Actually most teams wanted retention on Miller so its come as a bit of a surprise that there was no retention on the Miller deal. This deal would have gone thru a couple weeks ago had Dolan not stepped in trying to get the Canucks to retain salary.

Oh it gets better, because Miller to NYR gave us a 1st round pick, which they then flipped to the Pens for a ... rental D-men? Granted a decent one, but it's like they just saw the name "Petersson" and said, "yup, sold!"
There's that other D called mancini, and if he turns out to be good, then the deal with NYR gets a lot better, but for now the Rangers are clearly getting the better value.

Miller was a strong contributor to the team, pretty much a point per game guy, and eager in the playoffs. But I guess the "who's the star centre supposed to be" question got the better of him, or Petey, or both at the same time.

Well, the Canucks get cap space too, but salaries are there for the victory they bring, and that is what really matters. If EP40 does not improve and turns out to be a bust this franchise will have screwed itself horribly.

And we can actually say it began when they chose to trade Horvat, not now.

In my view, the trade by far benefited New York. Chytil is concussion prone and Manici is unproven at this stage of the game.

And btw -- 2 goals for JT in the game today against the B's.

Basically they traded JT Miller for Marcus Pettersson and to offload JT's salary going forward.

Offloading Deshairnais and Heinen was another bonus as their salaries extend into next season as well.

Miller got two goals in his first game with NY.

Pettersson's first game without Miller - 1 assist. Saw a stat that EP has only 5 goals this year off his shot. The rest (all 6) were tip-ins and bounces off his body or skates and empty netters. That's some damning statistic on how far his production has deteriorated. Then there's the complete disappearing act in the playoffs.

Certainly in the short term it does. Miller the killer will give NYR an immediate impact, while the Canucks will have to see whether EP40 can step up to a true franchise player / #1 points producer. I am not sure that issue can be decided this season.

Adding Petterson #3 and Mancini makes the defense better & deeper for sure, but always keeping in mind the need to build the pairings around Hughes (now injured, FML).

I do not think "instant gratification" for Canucks fans will be the result of this one. There's some interesting young prospects the Canucks have at C, but they need to ripen a bit.

Bump - so far so... good?

Hey what about this 4 nations thing?
After that Toronto game, they've decided to pull back on still listing EP40 for trad... hopefully the break from the Vancouver media and a good showing at 4 nations revives his confidence

Canada Sweden ws pretty entertaining... Blowing 2goal leads twice, Crosby was doin Crosby things

Much more entertaining than the all star games of past and US Fins off to fun start too ( too funny they had PA announcement to respect anthems - - let's see what happens Sat 😂😂)

Wrold cup and Olympics back in play too coming years

Somehow it seems the US always beats Finland at these tournaments.

That’s because the U.S. has all the lawyers and the Fins have SuoMi (sounds a lot like Sue Me) plastered on their jerseys. 🤪

If the Fins changed it to Fukuo or something more badass, they might start beating the yanks.

Don’t get me going on Helsinki…

Wonder how many trade requests are going to happen after the 4 nations tournament.

Nice to see JT Maga Miller get his face punched by a Canadian. Needs to happen much more often.

Pettersson still completely invisible in Four Nations. His game against Finland was even worse than the first game.

I was hoping that he would crank it up and show something of his previous self, but was invisible instead.

If he doesn't turn things around I hope the Canucks trade him even if they can't get a superstar package in return. Paying that annual salary and barely getting second or third line centre production is insane.

The sad thing is that if it is proved that EP40 is just not capable of turning things around, then his value in any trade drops and they will end up with nothing much in return - no other franchise will give up a star player for him, even if they think he has a use on their team as a two-way or depth centre. That is the risk the Canucks took betting everything on him being our #1 centre.
Plus if things are going that badly, then Brock Boeser will definitely want out too, and need do nothing but let his contract expire. The Canucks will then have no stars in their top scoring line at all.

I doubt Boeser will resign here. Better to trade him before the deadline. Could also see petey moved at the draft if he doesn't turn it around.
