maybe writing down "rule of thumb" takes too many keystrokes to bother with?....I'm sure everyone reading has the common sense to know 'rules are more like guidelines'....don't be so literal.
There is no hardcore "rule" that says what you can and cannot do, but for the best experience possible with a provider there is an age-range and context to consider.

Personally, my rule is if they feel comfortable with you, then it's fine. Just ask them in your message and see what they say.
