Moved to Canada from Denmark when I was 12. Moved to Sweden with my family 7yrs later.Family stayed in Sweden while I went to Copenhagen. Spent the next year traveling all over Europe before I realized I belonged in Canada. Came home and joined the army for 4yrs. I still speak Danish and understand Swedish but lost my accent a long time ago.

-53 wind chill tonight. That will bring out the Canadian in you! Is the Canadian look frost bitten cheeks and nose?

Both my parents are Italian.
I’m born and raised here. So I’m Canadian first and foremost.

My cultural identity is Coastal British Columbian, which is evident in catching my own seafood and comprehensive knowledge of the coastline.

My mother was Canadian,my father is an émigré from one of the Windward Caribbean islands.
On that Caribbean Island,my family history can be documented back over 300 years, with even a small coastline bay in our namesake.
The caribbean culture lives on with my large collection of antique mahogany furniture, home decorating color palette, regularly eating plantain/rice & peas/fish/spicy condiments and enjoying reggae/dub music.

11th generation of my family name in North America. 3rd or 4th ship to land at Boston MA after the Mayflower. Ancestors likely on both sides of the American Revolution. Carriage builders on my mother's side. Dirt farmers on my father's.

Very interesting thread.

So far most members who have responded are of European descent. I said MOST, not all. Based on that, I would NOT jump to any conclusions about pooners and their heritage. I am sure some guys would rather stay quiet about it.

I'm a banana. White as hell inside, and yellow on the outside. 1st generation Canadian; born in China, raised in Canada.
I enjoy the best of both Canadian and Chinese culture. Pretty much almost a CBC.

I’m French/Flemish/Irish/Native, quite a mix! I’m always curious about people’s background, I think it’s interesting.

I'm not sure how a first generation Canadian can be born in China......unless maybe your parents were already living here as Landed and you were popped while they were visiting the homeland?
Otherwise, your KIDS would be first generation Canucks.
But I love the 'banana' analogy!

Born and raised in Scotland. Came to Canada at the age of 26. Although from the family look, strong suspicion of viking heritage if you go back an awful long way.

Thanks for correcting me haha, I meant by I am the first to be Canadian of my family. Got my citizenship and passport. But you are right, it would be my kids who are officially "first generation" Canadian.

For some reason when you go to visit the rest of the world, they have respect for you and our country named after a small village....

Despite being a Tim Horton's doughnut eating, hockey lover, Cdn Tire shopping, fat snacker.... I like my country.... I have to cut down on those doughnuts....

Seriously, we are very lucky to be Canadians.

Everyone in the world just wants that life of family, the friday BBQ and those beers with friends....

We know the grass is greener on the other side, because we cut an watered our neighbours lawn, and sit back in our yard (with a beer) and say I can get to my yard tomorrow.....

I don't think I need to say anything about my heritage except it had been my goal for as long as I can remember to be a Canadian Citizen. It took many years and a crazy amount of paperwork but that day standing taking the oath was the second best and proudest day of my life. (kids always come first) There is no place I would rather be. Visiting Philippines and other places, countries all great but I am Canadian.

Awhile back I used to think "you people are so lucky", now its " we are so lucky".

There is no place like Canada, so I'll say something that was said to me many years ago, upon returning from conflict. It brought tears to my eyes, and put a lump on my throat that wouldn't go away for days.

Welcome home
