Recently I have lost 30 lbs (since feb 18th) and its been by a combination of diet and some serious cardio and weightlifting. I never realized just how disciplined you have to be to complete such a task.
I was wondering what other people here on perb have done to battle the bulge????? :)
I have been following the body for life program and still got 15 lbs and then im done! What is your strategy for weight loss?? or gain???

Lost 50lbs over the span of 9 months. Did a portion control diet (just watched quantity vs cutting things out completely) and started working out. Went from 3 hours a week up to 7 hours a week. It's tought starting but once your in the groove, its easy to do.

Congratulations! That awesome. I hope that you have plans to stay with the exercise program, or some variation of, in order to keep the weight off. Too many people think that once the weight is shed, then the work is over. Then, unfortunately, they abandon the healthy life changes they made and end up putting the weight back on. So much emphasis is placed on diet; but people seem to fail to understand the importance of proper exercise to actually expend those ingested calories.

Myself, I had always worked out quite seriously, so weight loss was never a problem. In fact, it was always the opposite; I could never put on weight no matter how much I stuffed myself. But, last year, my work outs dropped in frequency due to work even though I still basically ate the same way. So now I'm looking to shed some of that spare tire fat this year (about ten lbs). I plan on slowly increasing my workouts again to what they used to be while easing back on some of the things I'd been eating.

Stay with it and good luck! :)

The only weight loss program I have ever seen that has worked long term is my patented Mav Spinner regimen... I recommend losing only 0.5 to 1 lb a week... if u follow it, your body will slowly become accustomed to less but healthier food and it will not be "torture" or require much willpower... light to moderate exercise is all that is required... all those rapid loss programs rarely (if ever) work in the long term. Just my 3 cents.

i agree 1/2 lb to 1 lb a week is an attainable goal, and much easier to maintain down the long run, however i few turkey dinners and it can turn a wrench into the plans so you gotta be very careful of what you eat and always hit the gym!

Thank you rebecca

Rebecca has actually been an inspiration to me to start loosing weight myself. After seeing what its done for her, I want to slim myself down a bit too. My goal for now is to loose 20 lbs and see where I go from there.

Lost 75 pounds in a year about 4 years ago and have kept it off. I eat a big healthy breakfast a lighter lunch and whatever I want for dinner but fast food only twice a week. Most important nothing absolutely nothing after 7 pm. I also walk 1 hour a day every day year round.

Check out the posts in the Health section under Workout Advice. Some really good suggestions/leads in there. I lost alot of flab in the past 1 1/2 year (I'm not referring to the 160 lbs of ugly fat I lost when I divorced my ex-wife (LOL)). With the help of my fellow Perbians have toned up and put on some significant muscle in the past 16 weeks.

I lost about 10lbs over a three month period. Didn't really do anything excessive except eating a little less and exercising a little every day. I don't like junk food and I can cook so it wasn't really that hard to loss a little weight. :D

I have several strategies. I lost plenty and still coninue to loose.

I have been a vegetarian for 10 years and this does help. I abstain from a lot fast food that way because there isn't much at McDonald's for people like me.

May sound dumb, but I also refrain from processed, canned or preservative ridden foods. Fresh only. Lots of exercise. I also don't use salt at all.

Glad to hear you're doing well.

Once you're at your desired weight, the best weight loss program is to not gain it in the first place. I suggest weighing yourself daily... usually if you go over 2-3 lbs, your brain self adjusts and brings you back down slowly to your desired weight.

I just went for a 3lb shit. Does that count towards weight loss?
Did u weigh yourself before or after to come up with the weight of the sh$t or did you take a dump on a petri dish and weigh the sh$t? ;) Based on the data I've collected, sh$t on a healthy adult doesn't usually weigh more than 1 lb... it's the pee that really weighs. Of course, if it's moist sh$t, it will weigh more.

Well from what I'm reading, it seems that a LOT of people on PERB were formerly overweight...

If you were majorly overweight, 2 lbs a week might be a safe number and I don't know what the maximum safe number is (consult a doctor)... but those weight loss numbers you see on the Biggest Loser on TV just aren't safe for the average person... personally, I've been the exact same weight (give or take 3 lbs) for the past 5 years... before that, I was about 20 lbs over my target weight (I wasn't fat, just "normal"... but I wanted to be "fit and trim" similar to Patrick Bateman's build) and I lost it 1 lb a week and it's stayed off. It's not how much you lose, it's how much stays off over a prolonged period. These crazy super fast diets scare me.

me too...

A few years back I lost 120lbs. Yep... they made me change my ID because I didnt match it anymore..LOL...
I used and swear by the T-Factor...low fat/high fibre... healthy foods...Wieght watchers changed thier plan to the same, only use the point system. I dont think you ever forget that 'big' person inside. for me, I still see her when I look in a mirror or shop...maybe one day... I will see what others do. hugs
I am currently working on 12lbs. Gawds what a pain....

Thanks

It's great to hear that so many people too have had sucess losing weight. I do a intense training program but love it. I eat all the foods most people do and on sunday its kinda like a free day. This program is great and I would suggest it to people who want to see fast results.
Good luck to those who still have some weight to lose and congrats to all you have!!!!!

I also drink two protein shakes a day which are quite yummy with banana's and strawberries!!!! :)

Yeah cardio is where you can take off the most weight. I doubt I can take off any more than 10lbs just by eating right and light exercise. You have to sweat to burn off that fat and that means getting on that bike and ride for a hour everyday.

Regarding your doubt... that's precisely what my regimen consists of... it's a slow and gradual weight loss that allows your body to "self adjust" to eating less food.

The problem with involving all this extra cardio to lose all this weight fast is..... what happens when u don't have time? Guess what? You gain it all back. I don't know about you, but studies have shown the average person does not stick with an intensive training regimen over the long haul. Unless you are an athlete, working out can be extremely time consuming and takes away from other activities which inevitably find their way back into a person's schedule at the expense of workout time... can u say regained weight? Anything more than 10-20 min. 3-4 times per week is hard for the average person to persist at. Personally, I only work out 10-20 min. twice a week plus 1 hour of hockey. Why so little? Because it's easy to stick to it. Once you are at your desired weight, the best defense is not to gain it back by eating "just enough."

I also do not recommend counting calories. It's a waste of time and seriously... nobody does this for the rest of their life. The method I've found works best is to weigh yourself each morning with an accurate scale and write it down in a log. This takes only a couple of minutes. Your body will "self adjust" subconsciously on the calorie intake to maintain the weight... so it sort of counts your calories for you. I just laugh when I hear people at a restaurant count calories. Kind of takes the enioyment out of eating...

I never count calories ... I love my food too much and anyways, good tasty food is not that hard to make :D I don't have bad eating habits so it's not too hard to eat right. I also find myself eating less and eating more vegetables as I get older ... don't know why but I know to listen to what my body is saying.
I work out everyday for around 20 mins while watching TV ... i figure I might as well do something instead of just sitting there like a lump. I am still around 3 months into this new regimen so who knows ... maybe I can drop more than 10lbs :)
