They are having quite a bit of success with drones they got from Turkey as I read something about it today. Especially at night, they are tearing up the Russian armor and even making counter offensives in some areas. No wonder the Russians are getting desperate. David is more than standing up to Goliath.

I think Goliath was a lot more propaganda than anyone actually realized. I mean they are eating MREs that expired in 2015, meanwhile selling the fresh stuff on eBay (yes really).

Hypersonic missile hit.
Its a really expensive missile just to take out a building. Also at Mach 5 + (3800 mph or 1.2 miles/second), I don't think a missile would be that maneuverable cause its going so fast. Its fast but the more obstacles you put in the way of it, it has to go around the obstacle or risk hitting it. The way to take one of these down is a layered defense, which has time to get off missiles to intercept on closing vectors from different missile sites (defensive sites). You can't catch it from behind, by you can from the front of it, provided you have the information and time to intercept it.
Yes the speed and mass of missile can do alot of damage. A good portion of the missile would have to be fuel to maintain Mach 5 speeds.

So, President Biden calls an unscheduled news conference and says "I've just spoken with President Putin by phone and I've got some good news and some bad news. . . The good is that Mr. Putin wants peace!"

The room erupts into uncontrolled cheering, clapping, and high fives.

When there's some calm a reporter asks "And the bad news, sir?"

Biden replies "He wants a piece of Ukraine, a piece of Moldova, a piece of Romania, a piece of Hungary, a piece of Switzerland, a piece of . . . "

Ouch, sorry, I'll let myself out.

The biggest invention in the last 30 years was the anti-air shoulder launched missiles. Without air superiority, an army cannot hope to win. Keeping the other side from getting air superiority also helps your troops.
It surprises me the Russians have not aggressively taken over the airspace in Ukraine. They seem very risk-averse with their air power. The Russians would have to be up against more than just stingers if they're not gaining full air superiority over Ukraine. Stingers have limited range; very dangerous to attack helicopters and low-flying aircraft, but AFAIK, they cannot touch high altitude / strategic bombers with those. Either Ukraine has some larger, more dangerous anti-aircraft systems as well (and for some reason the Russians are not trying to take it all out), or perhaps the Russians are holding back their best & baddest because they fully expect to end up fighting with NATO directly & with nukes.

The Ukrainians still have a large number of their initial high altitude anti air systems intact (S-300), in addition to the stringers, startreak, etc. They are asking for more, and it sounds like they are getting it. The US is giving them some old soviet anti air systems they have (obtained for research at some point) which the Ukranians currently operate etc.

They have apparently asked for 500 Stingers and 500 Javelins per day to swat the Russkies from the sky. What they are getting is anyone's guess.
StarStreaks have already been deployed in Ukraine and training has been done. They are far more powerful than Stingers.
Looking forward to more Russian assholes getting blown out of the sky.

Intense POV video of Russian attack helicopter firing cannon and rockets at Ukrainian positions, and then performing a forced landing after being hit by ground fire.

Russia says it will curtail operations near Kyiv during peace talks. Or as the non-spin version would read, Russia is getting it's ass kicked near Kyiv and is retreating to regroup and buy time with peace talks it doesn't really expect to result in a ceasefire. The propaganda version plays better to the folks at home.

Due to massive incompetence and corruption Russia’s weapon manufacturers are now revealed to be crippled.
Their tank factory has shut down so no replacements for all the ones that got blowed up.
No access to chips for aircraft, PGMs or cad/cam manufacturing.

This is exactly the scenario we were taught in the 70s. It was called the “Come as you are war”. Everything gets used up at a ferocious rate, but equipment is so complex that manufacturing replacements is impossible. Even artillery shells have chips now.

Putin has put Russia back decades.

Varies now
If they nuke Moscow to take out Putin I recommend you crack open a beer, light a smoke, go outside and look southwest towards Minot ND and watch the minuteman missiles launch. You won’t live long enough to finish either.
I can be at Minot AFB faster than downtown YWG.

You will get a better view of the Minuteman launch from the Grand Forks sites.

Grand Forks doesn’t have active minuteman’s anymore.
This force has shrunk to 400 Minuteman-III missiles as of September 2017 deployed in missile silos around Malmstrom AFB, Montana; Minot AFB, North Dakota; and F.E.Warren AFB, Wyoming.

Micro chips are made mostly in Taiwan. There is soon to be another chip plant made in the US. Due to the Covid, the shortage of computer chips and the presence of chinese warships off Taiwan, has made it a priority for the US to manufacture its owns chips (in the USA) less they be caught without in the future. Although alot of the infrastructure is owned by US/Western companies, alot of the manufacturing is made offshore in places like India and China and Malaysia etc. where there is cheaper labour and hence more profit from the cheaper labour areas.
There are two types of chips in the world. The intel computer chips and the Apple chips. The Apple chips have less software and thus are better energy users and faster then same size computer chips. ref:https://news.techable.com/apple-m1-...8VoRA2WnEVGV4TyLjwq49Zt8FFmisF0RoCE80QAvD_BwE
So much so that the new Apple chips almost perform on the intel computer chip level for an actual computer, instead of for small iPhone and iPad etc.

When you take into account that the Oligarchs are the rich and buying superyachts, and the Russian economy is shits compared to the European or US economy. If Putin spent his time making things good for the people of Russia, getting better education, jobs, and opportunities; then enriching the Oligarchs, Russia would be in a lot better position today.

Something every economy should look at really seriously. If your weapons are made or controlled outside your country, you could be fucked....

Global economy: This affects Canada too. Where its cheaper to make a product in China and import and sale at vast profits, at the expense of your own economy (less manufacturing jobs). So in Canada we lose alot of heavy manufacturing jobs. Look at Ontario, with the auto-pac in place, Ontario was a profitable province making cars and trucks. All that has dried up and its all about imports now for cars. If you want choice of car, it usually comes from some other country.
Everything is outsourced to cheaper countries, material, and even office work.
Canada is a very rich country in resources, but it gives it all away to other countries, and manufacturing big items cars is very limited. During the oil price drop of 2014, Canada couldn't give away tar sand crude because the price of oil was too low to extract. Alberta's economy tanked. Right now with the Ukraine war, finally Canada is getting off its ass and actually buying some useful equipment for the Canadian Armed Forces (Which they have been asking for for 40 years or more).
But most is not made in Canada. That cost Cdn taxpayers more money. New ships, sure the hull is made in Canada, but all the good equipment is coming from other countries, or you are paying for the intellectual rights to make that equipment in Canada.

The news states that the West's sanctions are hurting the Russian economy. Yet they are still buying natural gas from Russia. This dependence on Russian gas will effect the war in Ukraine, as winter will approach later in the year. Meanwhile the Ukrainian people are dying, because of the threat of nuclear war if NATO interferes inside of the Ukraine with something like an "no fly zone".

Money made from Canadian resources slowly slips out of Canada, through ownership of the mining companies sold to US interests when they pay out dividends every quarter. Also covid really came up short with certain supplies links/chains that were supplied by "manufactured on demand basis". With alot of companies in the past 40 years on the reduce inventory and going to a "on demand inventory", supply chains were breaking down because there was no stock held in reserve for supply chain interruptions.

We have inflation today because of this lack of supply depth. Look at the shelves in your local stores; their is no longer certain items on the shelves due to lack of inventory in the supply chains.

Ultimately for peace in Europe, there will need to be an solution about the Russian Economy with the profit being spent on the people and not the Oligarchs. But that is not all, look at all those companies that have invested in Russia. To play there, they have to play ball with the Oligarchs. So the Oligarchs wealth is not just coming from Russia, its coming from the companies investing in Russia. Coming from a closed society of the soviets, the people of Russia are still under the thumb of the people in charge (Oligarchs and Putin); not just in propaganda, but economically too.

Part of the problem is the secrecy most countries have when dealing with holding companies, hiding the names of companies or individuals that hold those companies. Look at all the superyachts that are being Arrested, after countries confirm who owns those superyachts. Most of this is done for the rich to escape their taxes in their own country. With more countries in Europe on a socialist bent agenda to make their citizens a better living etc.

The rich hide their money. Canadian loose manufacturing jobs, due to the rich to make greater profits in other cheaper producing countries; all while hiding money for tax purposes from their own country.

Prime example is the offshore Headquarters of Canadian Banks in so called "tax havens" of the Caribbean and elsewhere.

The problem is not the people in Russia, but how the rich and powerful, hide their crimes and money made through corruption and through holding companies and in tax havens. Yes there is alot more Russian money hidden throughout the world. Its not just Russian Oligarchs, it European and Western businesses and companies that hide their criminal activities and monies through corporate holding companies and tax havens.
