I tried La Terraza restaurant last month. It was a pleasant surprise with good food and excellent service. I had Gnocchi and Rissoto with prawns which were delicious.

i have been to Joe's many times over last 15 years, the food has always been quality and consistant.
But, i love the design and how the place gives a high energy feeling and fun atmosphere without feeling too commercial.
The Fish House in Stanley Park is also worth a try, especially after a good walk in the park.
i agree, i been to blue water twice when it first opened and i find the atmosphere to be pretentious. Food was good.

The Rosemary Popcorn at the Bar of celebrity chef's Jean Georges Vongerichten's MARKET in Shangrila Hotel is pretty addicting. 
I always enjoy Goldfish in Yaletown.... i've had some great vegetarian indian cuisine there. Their champagne cocktails are divine!
I am also partial to Greens Gourmet Buffet in Kits. It is all vegetarian cuisine... with many indian dishes. It is very casual dining, and nice and quiet and serene... for days when you are hungry, and don't want to wait for your food
For ambiance, I really like Lift in Coal Harbour - however not much on the menu (if at all) for picky vegetarians! LOL It is situated right on the water, tasteful and modern decor, with a heated upstairs patio. In summer, you can sit around the fire pit!
Lift is very much a place for intimate dining.

Cadero`s in Coal Harbour, the mollases ribs appetizer is great.....so are most of the other apps.
I like the place, I can walk over from my yacht in the Coal harbour marina.

I am taking my dad out for his bday and he likes different funky ethnic foods (indian excluded). Last year I took him to Nyala its an african restaurant, it was good but I need something new for this year. Any suggestions?

Red Door on Granville street is outstanding. It isn't Chinese food as we all might know it, it is Asian infused. The Ginger Beef and Black Pepper Scallops are 2 outstanding dishes. Mmmmmmm.....so good!!! Very nice atmosphere, nice decore and prices are very reasonable. Quality of food is top shelf.

Red Door might be good, but they have a bad rodent issue in the kitchen area since they've been taken over by the Boathouse people...didn't hear it from me. Might want to avoid it unless you want to catch the floor show later in the evening...

For sushi lovers, Hidekazu Tojo's Olympic-inspired sushi called Celebration 2010 roll is totally amazing.
Hanwoori along Metrotown is truly one of the city's best Korean restaurants. Worth getting out of downtown for. However for late night, Jang Mo Jib along Robson seems OK.
for anyone looking for company to any of the mentioned restaurants, im visiting in a weeks time! id love to experience one with a fellow foodie
Thanks, Big Dog Striker. I will check out Hanwoori. I have been to Jan Mo Jib and Nolbu on Robson, and they served pretty decent Korean food. I went back to Blue water cafe last night. It has been a while since I was there last time. The place was absolutely packed, but I was able to get seats at the sushi bar. They had a different main chef for sushi, but still excellent. They also had Wagyu beef from Japan which were so tender and tasty. It was very expensive, but still one of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver!
