Hi All

In the past we have said that the earliest you could test for gonorrhea or chlamydia was after 7 days. Due to the new testing that our lab is using they have changed this to 14days.

E.g. If the condom broke and you wanted to get tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia you would need to wait for 14 days before you could be assured of an accurate result.

If you are experiencing symptoms go in as soon as possible.

As other clinics may use different tests, when making an appointment I would ask how long people need to wait before being tested if they are experiencing no symptoms.

Why the downgrade in testing? Or is the accuracy higher if you wait longer?

Hi Missy Mariposa

From what has been explained to me about the new testing, the levels need to reach a certain threshold before it will show positive. This will take more time. On the flip side after 2 weeks this test will be more accurate than the old test that was used.
