I would like to ask the Health Nurse a question..

what's the difference between a swab test on the genital area and a blood test? Do they both yield the same result? Can the Health Nurse please expand a little on this?

time for my yearly medical, so just wanted to be educated on this.. thanks :D

Hi big daddy

The swab test and blood test both check for sexually transmitted infections. They just look for different types.

The swab test on the genitals of a man involves having a small swab put up your urethra (pee tube). This test checks for gonorrhea and chlamydia.

Most clinics have a urine test that will check for chlamydia and gonorrhea. In most cases you will be able to request this test instead of the swab.

Gonorrhea can also live in the throat and rectum. If you have had a penis go inside these we would recommend a test to these areas.

Blood tests will check for things like HIV, syphilis and hepatitis.
