Still surprised that Winnipeg swept Edmonton. I was expecting quite the opposite. Still, I feel Winnipeg could get as far as the third round.

I know a few hard core Leafs fans. Long suffering ... as an Oilers fan I feel their pain, kinda :)
And I've always like the Jets, high speed, skilled play - I'd like them to move on but gees, those Habs! Who saw that coming?

Playoff hockey is always different from the regular schedule. That extra layer of "get her done" comes up. A goalie gets an ultra hot hand. Competitive speed happens. Guys who had been good all year suddenly become game changers. You all know this, but commenting specifically regarding the Oil, as exciting as they can be, they don't have the depth and haven't for a long time. I thought they would get past Winnipeg and did not expect a sweep but that's how it went. That team needs some serious navel gazing.

One thing I am pretty sure will be unanimous, the level of the game has never been higher. The speed, transition game, strategy, man if you make one little fuck up, the other guys are on that like white on rice. I have been a fan since the days of no helmets or goalie face masks and I am pretty sure any team today would soundly beat any team from even a few years ago the bar has moved up so much.

100% agree but I doubt it's unanimous. Old timers and ex-players love to live out their glory days. I think they're absolutely delusional. They could be good in their era and not even be considered worth an NHL contract in today's standards. Mark Messier said something along the lines of "that's not how I'd build a team" referring to the Wilson-Rangers fiasco. The dumbass is still living out his glory in his own head. The best teams play the best hockey because they're fast and skilled, and if they have goons, it's because they also happen to be able to play hockey (e.g. Wilson).

Hockey's evolved a lot over the years, and it's definitely for the better.

I predict Boston will go through anyone they play like castor oil through a bran eater's colon. Like the Wehrmacht through France. Like rat shooter with a full barrel of rats.....
What are the Bruins' championship odds?
The Bruins’ odds to win the Stanley Cup are currently +1100 (odds provided by our partner, PointsBet), which are the best out of all four East Division playoff teams.

Yeah one can never discount Boston. Their organization builds playoff contenders from the ground up.
But
Current odds has Colorado, then Tampa, then Boston, then Islanders.
From watching the Avs I agree. And the wild card in this is the Habs. Man who would have thought that?

At this point I would absolutely love to see Montreal VS Boston.

I hope Boston gets swept in 4 games.

Momentum. Playoff hockey is the epitome of it given these are (can be) pretty brutal series.

Montreal is still surprising me. Their scoring punch is really fun to watch. And Carey Price ... well what can you say. And he's a native Vancouverite!
Vegas is looking a bit scary right now. Playoff hockey team or what!
Tampa is maybe the best all around team of which I can tell.
And never discount Boston.

To the guy who posted most people don't give a fuck. Well I don't know. Fucks I have given that didn't matter to me were given a long time ago. But since I do have that propensity to bleed puck-lets, I do give a fuck about Stanley Cup Hockey.

But the current players are fast, daring, brave and reckless because of body armour, face shields, helmets, masks and rules that have lessened body contact and retaliation. When was the last time any forward trying to split the D was hip-checked? How many players drive to the net knowing the net isn't stuck in place? Do current players continue through a game after "getting their bell rung?" Have any current players played a full 60 minutes? Impossible to compare eras, and the current players are better conditioned, faster and more skilled (And most probably don't smoke between periods). But also think they are protected by better rules, which makes the game faster.

It sounds like you're agreeing with me more than not? I do want to address the bold though: I'm guessing you're not a competitive athlete, or it has been a while since you've athletically competed in anything meaningful. The past and current players are equally "brave and reckless" if we are considering equipment, but not so when taking into account the rules. I think we can both agree that it's a good thing - but if you are telling me that is the reason why the current era is better, than I fully disagree.

Impossible to compare eras perfectly, but you can't say you can't compare eras because players today are better conditioned, faster, and more skilled... that is literally what makes them better players today. No what ifs.

guess it's ok to reply to myself, lol.

I suspect I was not alone in thinking the North division 2nd Round would be Toronto vs Edmonton?
Dunno which is the bigger surprise...Jets sweeping the Oil, or Habs coming back from 3-1?

Jets probably have the better team on paper.....but we know what puppies do to paper.
I'm going with Habs having more momentum

I think Bolts and Bruins will get through.

Colorado-Vegas might be the de facto Cup Final....whoever wins that will be tough to beat.
I had picked Vegas....I'm glad I didn't bet on them,lol.

Lots of good hockey ahead.
again, replying to my post...

I picked Habs,Bolts, and Knights, but missed on the Bruins.
Always thought the
east was a toss-up, 6 pts between 1st&4th.

Now, I'm cheering for the Habs&Isles, but if I were to bet, I'd go with Bolts&Knights.

Dunno why they couldn't've started the 3rd round a bit sooner?

Probably based around what NBC wants. Which might explain why there were all those playoff games in Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Here we’re used to playoff games almost every day (depending on the round) and not in the mornings or afternoons.

Odds as of now from vegasinsider:

2021 NHL STANLEY CUP ODDS
ODDS TO WIN 2021 NHL STANLEY CUP FINAL
TeamAmericanFractional
Vegas Golden Knights+11523/20
Tampa Bay Lightning+1503/2
New York Islanders+6006/1
Montreal Canadiens+100010/1

I did not expect the Habs to be in the final four. Forgot that NYI were there last year, so this year will be a Lightning - Islanders rematch. Vegas is not just on a roll but a steam roll!!
Bring it on boys. Hockey at its best!

What a difference a couple days makes!! vegas odds makers post the following, pretty much echoed by others

2021 NHL STANLEY CUP ODDS
ODDS TO WIN 2021 NHL STANLEY CUP FINAL
TeamAmericanFractional
Tampa Bay Lightning-11520/23
Montreal Canadiens+3003/1
Vegas Golden Knights+3507/2
New York Islanders+140014/1

If the Habs play like they did last night, woo eee, so entertaining, and some of the tic tac toe passes just so pretty. Like the old days when the fast, high skill of the 80's Canadienne's and Oilers caused us all to marvel.

I don't know about the rest of you hockey fans but I am really enjoying these playoffs. Maybe its all the covid related things but as old Howie Meeker would have said, Golly Gee, it's entertaining.

Vegas odds this morning. Statistically no difference between Tampa and the Habs.
Me? The exuberance with which Les Canadiens are playing will be the difference. The old guys have given the kids the confidence to just play and the kids are having fun. Its a winning combination bringing that salient "energy" to the game.
Tonight I figure is a toss up but I think Tampa will carry it.
Next round though, I say Habs in 6, maybe even 5.
Wow, what great hockey we are being given this time around!!
