Right now, it dosen't matter where the virus came from. Its enough to know that it is out there, and will eventually make it into your life whether today, tomorrow or a year in the future.
Hospitals are run with approx 40 to 70% of beds, and they might have extra beds available or a shutdown wing or floor. But this dosen't include ventilators for each bed. For the most part most people will have a minor reaction to the flu virus. Its when he virus hits the lungs and the speed of the infection in the lungs. The reason for self isolating is to prevent the spread of the virus, so hospitals can keep up (with ventilators).
Before this outbreak, our Capitalist system (cost cutting bureaucrats did not want to spend money on health) was not prepared to make the investment in ventillators because they are rarely needed in the average year of cold/flu season or other diseases.
So staying home is the rule right now. Avoid other people and touching things if you are out in the public. Hence the wash your hands campaign.
Eventually there will be a flu shot that will help (timeline next year in 2021), that when everybody has had it, life can return to the old normal. Chances are not, things always change.
Maybe we will get rid of the concept of money... how nice, no more taxes, bills to pay, life would be more simpler....Maybe how Gene Roddenberry envisioned Star Trek through TNG... people didn't need money in that future....
Something people have noticed is the emergency powers the governments have taken on. All of these should be taken back after the threat of the virus/emergency dies down or is dead. I think that some people envision these laws as making everyone slaves to the higher classes. Are we not enslaved by money, taxes, paying bills, etc. already.....apparently we also have a class system too, based on how much money you have. Poor, middle class, rich and politicians.
Mental health issues have been at the forefront of our Canadian society for the last 10 years or so. In this world of competition, workplace politics, the push to succeed at all costs, money has a important factor in our mental health too. With people laid off, and wondering where they are going to get money to pay for their rent, bills etc. Maybe this pandemic with its isolation will give people a new look at how to run our society.
Ever heard that "Money is the root of all evil".....
Also right now its spring, enjoy the weather, nice sunshine, and just enjoy the moment....
