As reported on Global News

In a letter to fans posted on the NHL website, the Sedin borothers have announced they are retiring at the end of this season. They played their entire 18-year career in Vancouver.

Now to find two guys who will contribute 100 points.

The re-build is truly on now.

It's going to be an interesting Summer 2018!

No fucking around NOW Trev and Jim!
The Sedin's made the decision for them and took that particular heat off of management.
Another example of classy Sedinery!
Thanks for the memories guys. The Hall awaits........

Certainly amongst the best Canucks ever, if not The Best, especially when you put them together. They are unique, classy, disciplined, dedicated and generous. That seems to be a commonality among most Swedes.

I always believed that they will walk away on their own terms and they will do it with dignity and class.

19-20 years of great memories!

I will always remember them as much for what they did OFF the ice for the sick kids of Vancouver; particularly for the family of a pair of identical twin sisters. Because they were the daughters of a former colleague of mine, that's the one that sticks with me.

End of an era.. Quite amazing to have them play for Vancouver for so long together. Having Henrik win the Art Ross trophy in 2009-10 followed by Daniel a year later is something that may not happen again for 2 brothers never mind twins.

What they have done for the community speaks volumes of how kind and classy they are. Great hockey players but better ambassadors!!

I remember seeing them play for Team Sweden at the World Junior Championship here in Winnipeg back in 1999 and they were head and shoulders above any other player in that tournament when it came to pure skill level. They've always been such class acts within the NHL and it was a pleasure to watch them, especially in that stretch run from 2008-2011. Will be interesting to see what happens with the Canucks now as it was always easy for the organization to put off the full rebuild by using the contracts of the Sedins as an excuse. End of an era and now time to begin a new one.

Thing I recall most is their blind, behind the back passes to each other stick to stick.

I always put it down to being twins and were somewhat psychic where each other was on the ice.

I loved watching them ascend to the top of the NHL with character and class despite all the criticism.

I have to agree with you BBB, the behind the back passes were like magic. At their best they cycled the puck with ease and delivered the perfect little saucer passes which lead to countless combined goals. I am even more impressed that they did it all with ordinary size, strength and speed.

Some better officiating and they would have drank from the Cup.

Lets hope management puts them in charge of the rebuild. They are the best hockey minds in the game. Reward them, make them general managers with or without Benning. Best move they could ever make.

Mike Gillis said it best today in an interview on 1040.....”The Sedins are exceptional hockey players but even better human beings”.....I truly hope they settle in Vancouver and are offered a significant role within the team.

Thanks for the memories boys!!! :clap2::clap2:

I’d love to hear what injustices were visited upon them by the officials. Perhaps you could expound?
Not any particular one example, but in a nutshell...

The 2010-11 team was built to destroy teams in special teams (as evident by the 1st ranked PP/PK), but as we all know officiating in the playoffs takes on a life of its own. The team was extremely skilled but the Bruins pushed the envelope so far that they knew they could get away with a ridiculous amount even if they were already getting whistled more to begin with. The visual of Marchand sandbagging Daniel tells the whole story; it should have been a penalty (and would have been in the regular season) and the Canucks should have been given the chance to take advantage of that on the PP (which also began to fizzle in the finals). Instead by not fighting back all of a sudden they're not "tough enough" - simply garbage spewed by the media and hockey purists. And yet had he fought back people simply would have said "oh Marchand is getting under his skin". The mantra of that team was to make them pay, but not only did they not get the calls, they couldn't finish with the chances that they had.

Combine Thomas putting on the greatest Stanley Cup Final goaltending performance of all time, the Canuck injuries (playing and sitting out), and the straw the broke the camel/Hamhuis' back... they stood no chance.

The officiating would have helped put the Canucks up another game or so, but I think they already outperformed expectations all things considered.

A few great Sedin moments.

It's like they have a puck on a string some nights.

They were great players, but it was the right time for them to go. I'm glad the Canucks will have decisively passed the mantle of leadership to some newer guys for next year, and clear roster spots for some of the youths they have coming up.

Yes the Sedins will leave us with memories to last a lifetime indeed. If the two of them had only one flaw it
would be that during the playoffs is that they could not step up their game to be as rough and tough as the
Bad Bad bruins. That was just not their style. Unfortunate when the chips are down because you NEED that
extra gear when it comes to the next level of the regular season. Playoff hockey has nothing regular about it.

Just my opinion.

Which is why hockey will always be an inferior sport to the other major team sports. No sport effectively changes their rules between regular season and playoffs.
