Quick question about CCleaner

So to follow up on my previous thread, one of the recommended solutions was to use CCleaner to get rid of my temp files.

I've since downloaded CCleaner but am noticing that the temp files aren't being deleted. From my understanding, they are supposed to be deleted when I exit IE 8. I just checked the directory when I started my system and all of my temp files are still there.

Have I missed something in the setup? Appreciate any help.

thanks,

Your question actually asks two questions, sort of. You ask about CC and then say you expect your temp files to be gone when you exit IE8. CC needs to be run to delete temp files or you need to "Delete Browsing History" before exiting IE.
Why not use the "InPrivate Browsing" feature of IE8.
"InPrivate Browsing helps prevent Internet Explorer from storing data about your browsing session. This includes cookies, temporary Internet files, history, and other data. Toolbars and extensions are disabled by default. See Help for more information."
You can enable toolbars and extensions in Tools | Privacy if needed

I also downloaded CC and tried to remove browsed files in IE8. When i open up the URL box the history area still shows PERB listed. i had a woman friend use my computer and she clicked the box but never caught the url in there as she was typing fast. I don't care to have anyone see these web site url's so want to get rid of them.

I never new about InPrivate browsing and can use it now that i know, but I can't get rid of my history. Help please!

Ya, i had a clear area thing before, maybe it was on IE7. fricken Gates!

anyone know how to clean the history, tried in tools area and used this CC program.

Holly cow. I have gone into Tools, then Internet options then advanced and done a complete reset and I still have 4 lines of Pacific Escort Review Board url's saved in my history area.

Wiped out all my cookies, home page and so on but still can't get rid of these history PERB url's.

set keep history to 0 and the PERB sites keep coming up in history. now trying the 1 day setting and see if they go away and use the INPRIVATE area that I just learned about today.

Hope some knows how to get rid of the history, not deleteing the histor PERB urls'.

OK, update

I figured how to get rid of the history. i went into tools, Internet Options, Content and AutoComplete and unclicked the Browsing History.

Now, I will use this in private area. It was just a friend who used my computer but rather her not see and then know about this hobby.

Use of CCleaner v.2.21.940.

Open it up. Click on "Cleaner". Click on the "Windows" tab.

Check off the Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History and Recently Typed URLs boxes.

Click the "Analyze" button. This will compile the list of files that need to be deleted.

Click the "Run Cleaner" button. This will actually delete the files.

Repeat the process for Temporary Files and Windows Log Files below.

This will clean things out nicely, removing temporary internet files, cookies, browsing history and any autocomplete for typed URLs.

For Macs?

I used to use Window Washer when I had a PC. I am now on a Mac - do I need to clean the Mac the same way I used to clean the PC, or is the "Reset Safari" function providing me the same degree of privacy protection that a PC cleaner did? Thanks for any insights provided.

uh...Edmonton.
this is an interesting question/thread/topic...

...because it deals with the need for privacy. I have a need for privacy. I have two daughters who will never...ever...know the details of my life...more is the pity for me, but that's just life. Things that are private remain private....and that, for me, is a good reason for privacy.

However...I will wade in on this in terms of privacy amongst consenting adults. My lover/wife/friend/callherwhatever...will be privy to all of my thoughts. Otherwise...she is guessing...and I don't want her to be guessing. I want her to know the porn that tips me over at night....I have some fairly specific types that tip me out...I won't be specific, I have no need to be. You readers are hardly my lovers. Wait...I have no lover. But, I have my porn, and that will suffice for the moment.

My lover/friend will provide what I seek...just as I will provide her with what she seeks...if only she will tell me what that is. I would expect no less from my best friend...tell me...I have heard far worse...and I love you...so you have a free card. Speak honestly, openly, and without fear. I can offer little more.

My computer is loaded with pornographic junk. I set up a two user system...one is me...the other is kids. That takes care of any unauthorized use.

I tried the whole "clean" thing before....foolish....the chicks I have known have been far smarter than I...and got around it....and then I was quite rightly accused of deception. I know now....just be honest. Sleep comes better with honesty.

kindest,

eddie.

I have tried CCleaner, the temp cleaner one and my history STILL shows PERB sites - Never deleted the autoComplete what ever it is called.

Now I went in and changed the settings to save browsed webs to 1 day only and I now see 2 perb lines have gone and will see over the next day if the other 2 go away.

I am now in the InPrivate browser. i am not in trouble, just don't care for someone to say can I check something online and see PERB in my history in the url box.

Now, i can go into Tools, Internet Options, Content then AutoComplete and uncheck the history box to get rid of history but it is a nice function to have.

So, both cleaners I used did NOT get rid of that history. but seen they did free up a bunch of space.

friggen computers.
