Hi All,

I avoided sugar for the longest time meaning no pop, candy bars, baked goods, etc.

As a challenge, I ask if you can avoid sugar for 30 days :)

After 30 days, tell me how you feel, good or bad.

Thanks,

Cory

I was able to do it for 2 weeks. I lost 5 pounds no exercise. However the first few days I had really bad withdrawal. I mean teeth chattering, slurred speech confusion extreme changes. It really opened my eyes as to how much sugar we consume and how it affects our diet.

How strict is this “no sugar” ? Because literally EVERYTHING has fkn sugar! So I assume just added sugar (anything listed in the ingredients?)

I've been able to go for 3 months. I've found that preparing for it by fasting intermittently for a few days, and then doing a longer fast to start the no-sugar period makes it easier. The barrier to entry is that our body needs to start using fat instead of glucose for fuel. Switching from one to the other is taxing if you're not used to it (aka metabolically flexible).

After the 3 months, sugary goods were no longer as attractive to me. I eventually ended up slowly falling down the sugar rabbit hole, though. I'm getting back to it now that xmas is behind us. My energy levels were amazing, and the sluggishness is noticeable when refined sugar is part of my diet.

As for how strict? I basically go all-in and do Keto. But, I suspect that just cutting out refined foods is good enough long term.

FreeG: well when they say no sugar I meant no added sugar. So like for example hot dogs and bread and ketchup have sugar but one would not consider that a dessert. No sugar means: no juice, no cookies, cake, pie, candy, chocolate, pop, ice cream, milkshakes, sweet pastries, iced tea, lemonade, etc. I would probably throw in yogurt too just in case it has a lot in it

I agree with your examples, anything with sugar in it even if they try to sneak it in, like Fructose, Dextrose, Sucrose, High Fructose Corn Syrup...

I try to reduce mine, but I don't think I could get through a day with none. Breakfast usually breaks my vows straight away.

I’ve found the best way to cut down/out added sugar is to eliminate one thing at a time. Started in the ‘90’s doing the no-sugar-in-my-coffee for 90 days to break the habit. It worked! I never looked back and will spew it back at any Timmies server who didn’t understand ‘no fuking sugar’. Moved onto eliminate baked goods and non-babe slutty things from my diet to keep the diabetes dog in the rear view.

Now I see potatoes, bread, and anything that comes in a box as sugar, and therefore on my spew list.

Food consciousness was more effective than self-guilt and flakey will power.

Not that big on sugar,I bake once or twice a month and I take my coffee and tea black . Not big on pop anymore, but I use to be, then my late brother was diagnosed type 2 diabetic and in a show of support for him I quit drinking pop.
I am no doctor but people whom had it can reverse it with diet, hope your brother is managing it.

No your not a doctor and your certainty not qualified to give advice on diabetes! And before you reply to someone’s post you might want to read it completely, thread closed.
