All the talk of how crappy Hollywood movies are today leads me to ask a few questions.
1. What movie won the Best Picture Oscar instead of Citizen Kane?
2. Name the other Best Picture nominees that year.
Hollywood has always put out more crap movies than good, but who really remembers a movie like Hawmps(saw it as a kid, just saw it in the bargain bin and was reminded of it) compared to Star Wars? Just go to IMDB and punch in any actor who's been around for awhile, and see how many movies they've made you've never heard of. As an example, I read once that John Wayne made 200 movies in his career. Except for a hardcore fan most people might only be able to name a dozen or so.
I used to go to the movies very regularly, usually at least once a week. I broke down and saw Sin City in the theater, just because I'm an ex comic book geek. Before that it was Spiderman 2, because I had a gift certificate that was about to expire. Before that, it was LOTR Return of the King. Between the price (can somebody please explain how getting rid of matinee and cheap Tuesday is "better serving the customer" like the corporate asshats say), general crappiness of too many films, and the fact I can wait a couple of months and watch the DVD with the deleted scenes, bonus extras, etc., why bother going to the theater?
