Got dressed, was going to at least head out to at least Paramount, while waiting to see if SPs would respond and I can go. Open my garage to some sort of snow storm.

Fuck this year has gotten out of hand with the snow...

How many others have had to cancel appointments due to snow this year?

Yah tell me about it this was back a few weeks ago. I wanted to see this gal before she left Vancouver and I
couldn't make it because the roads were a complete mess. Snow up to my ass and then some.

I really missed seeing her one last time to say goodbye and she told me via text not to be sad as we will meet again.
What a sweetheart!

GOD DAMN FUCKIN SNOW!!! Well she kept her word, we still converse to this very day. :love_heart: :tickled_pink:
and she said she will return in the fall.
That's a long time to wait although absense makes the heart grow fonder.

Only a Coastie could complain or need to stay home because of a few snow flakes.
I've somehow managed to be in Vancouver for every snowfall this winter.
I chuckle at what people call lots of snow in Vancouver. I go out and drive around in it with ease. I live half time in the Okanagan valley. If the equivalent snow falls in Kelowna, the locals just enjoy the fresh bit of new snow. Under a full foot of snow is not considered heavy at all.
I have to climb a steep hill immediately after pulling out of the underground parking at my condo. Instead of slamming my foot down on the gas pedal i just eased into it.
Very minimal tire spin and away I go.
There is nothing special about my car.
I just drive smooth and gentle, the exact same as driving in snow on any road in any other city.
Poor driving skills is not Mother Natures fault. I picked up 3 others and drive all 4 of us to our meeting. The 2 Vancouverites were astonished how comfortably I just drove around. Its only difficult when the snow is deep as my BMW has limited ground clearance. But in a few inches its just another day of driving around. I usually drive the car back and forth between Kelowna and Vancouver.
When I am in Kelowna and it snows more than 6 inches I take the truck. Not only does it have 4 wheel drive, but it has lots of ground clearance.
But for 2 or 3 inches of snow my car actually handles better than the truck does.
The car has better weight distribution than the ultra light rear of my truck. And i typically do not drive around with a thousand pounds over the rear tires of the truck to help balance it.
Maybe find a driving school that offers advanced car control classes.
Just drive slower than usual and think smoooooooth. No jerking suddenly on the wheel or pedals.

If you think I am a wuss you should've seen the amount of bitching on Vancouver Island over the minimal amount of snow they got.

I chuckle at what people call lots of snow in Vancouver.
It's all relative though. A person who lives in Revelstoke probably gets a chuckle out of the snowfall levels in Kelowna same for someone that lives in a "snow belt" in Ontario. I've driven the Trans Canada from Van to Calgary several hundred times in the past 5 years. Worst weather is usually near Revelstoke and Rogers Pass or climbing into the Coq. The worst weather I ever drove in was in the Ontario snow belt north of Toronto. I was heading home on Christmas day and the sky had a weird look. I had a CB and asked a south bound trucker what was ahead. He replied "fucking hell". 250 kms, 9 hours, lucky I had 2 containers of gas in the back (old Jeep CJ with 33s on her). I had to piss in a Tim Hortons cup. Worse was the floor was steel and it was a soft top and it was about -35C so basically zero heat and me scratching ice off the windshield to see. I finally arrived only to get stuck in 4 wheel (low) in the driveway because the snow was so deep. So I backed down..hoping to race up the driveway to make it. And back right over an embankment. I had to get a guy with a bulldozer to come up and yank me out.

The beer was cold though.

**edit**. When I think of it driving in ice fog on the Anthony Henday in Edmonton in refinery row was brutal. You'd get ice fog and it would coat everything. If there was a wind gusts cars would literally blow sideways and it was like bumper cars. Hwy 22 south of Long View Alberta down to Crowsnest is brutal too. Bad enough tyou sometimes come to a complete stop the blowing snow is so bad. That's when rumble strips come in handy.

The other day when all 3 highways were closed between Vancouver and the Interior, they interviewed a guy who'd been stopped overnight in his car and he was complaining that there were no services, not even anyone to bring him a bottle of water.

When you're traveling on mountain highways in Canada in the middle of winter, take a few bottles of water and emergency supplies with you!

Snow tires are a marvelous invention.
Only when the assholes in front of you also have snow tires. I went up Willingdon in the snow and it was an uphill Salomon course. Just enough room to get around each of the stuck cars.

I drive to Revelstoke regularly.
Winter driving is a lot using common sense.
I throw an extra flashlight, blankets, snacks and water in the backseat.
Keep calm and don't panic.
Spinning needlessly just polishes the ice.
After many cars polish the road in a certain area move over a bit to the left or right and get off the iciest groove and into some new snow. Brake early and gently.
I have never hit the ditch or hit anything.
I drive about 45000 kms per year and many are trips over the Coquihala year round.
The Coquihala is only as bad as you make it.
Slow down and again, use common sense.

All they have to do is tell them at the class is to buy a set of FRIGGIN SNOW TIRES YOU IDIOTS!!!!!

take a look around next time you walk through a parking lot at a mall or whatever and 90% or more of the
cars have all seasons on them. With slippery icy conditions they just don't work. NO matter what kind of
car you are driving.

Because we only get heavy snow here once in a blue moon people are just to lazy to bother with buying snow tires.

BaconNeggs, you obviously didn't venture out to the valley to see the snow we had out here. More than a foot
on two occasions. I had no problem getting around in it at all. The only thing that kept me from leaving my quiet
little hamlet is all the brain dead idiots trying to drive around on all seasons.

Because of that I missed seeing my fave leave to go back to her home town. Damn!!

Doesn't matter how good a driver you are or how well equipped your vehicle is.

Last year I had a stupid asshole drift right into me sideways. Bang! Fuck fuck fuck.

Always watch out for everyone else. The guy that hit me should not have been driving at all.

I used to have Nokians all seasons, rated for winter on my SUV and they were great tires. I loved heading out on the BC highways during bad weather because I knew I'd have the road to myself. It's usually not the weather that's dangerous, it's the other idiots on the road.

I have to admit to enjoying the record setting mid-teens temperature here in Ontario while watching my old home town of Chilliwack get buried under record setting snowfall on the news.

It has been bizarre in Winnipeg with a week above freezing in February.
Last week there were giant puddles, my street was under a couple of inches of water.
The killer is when the water hides a giant pothole, a friend wrecked an 19 inch alloy rim in one.

I'm betting a large percentage of Vancouver drivers still only have one set of all season tires on their cars.

I've been using some decent winter tires on their own rims and then a set of all seasons on another.

Only prob I had in the last big dump was my car was lower than the snow. It sort of acted a bit like a plow for a short distance and then kept going.

As far as driving in it well that's another story with so many people who have never had any snow condition experience. Time to get a dash cam ;)
