Before the Olympics I remember vision Vancouver implying how much money all the business were going to be .
After the smoke cleared and reality hit ,
I asked around , loads of people who both worked downtown and owned businesses downtown , and with an obvious huge exception of the restaurants and hotels , as far as retail , brick and mortar etc , you could have shot a cap on through most downtown business for two weeks and you wouldn’t have hit a soul . Even most staff were sent home early ever day ok the count of it being so dead .
Whether is was because people who are coming to watch sports weren’t here to shop ,
Or if perhaps many were broke after tickets , hotel , restaurant and bar bills ,
All other businesses downtown suffered and made pretty. I’ve nothing for two weeks .
I spoke to a restaurant manager I know that runs a nice classy place just over the Granville Bridge. He said the only places making money are restaurants and pubs on Granville strip.

His business is down, but gave me an example that 1 pub/restaurant made $80,000 in one day during the Canada game.

This is what never gets mentioned by the promoters of these big events. Yes, it brings in a lot of money for some, but is also just redistributes the same pot of money to different places. So, the guy pulling in $80,000 in one day, has earned a substantial amount from what would have been spent in restaurants/pubs around the city and suburbs, or in other ways.

I have a relative who runs a major hotel and he said that this summer has been terrible for them in terms of occupancy. They have charged more so kinda made up some of it but FIFA was not positive for the place.

There were 1200 police deployed down town every day during all the hoopla. VPD spokesperson said that will drop to 400, "because the need isn't there."
Right - there was some a need during FIFA to make sure tourists were protected, but now we nonentities who paid for it, and just live here can go back to being punched and stabbed randomly, and watch addicts shoot up and shit in our doorways again.

I asked a couple police where they moved the homeless too and they both said nowhere .
It seemed like they believed it , but I don’t . They definitely pushed them somewhere where they were less of an eyesore during World Cup .
There’s like 90% less downtown

Where I work wasn’t hit too badly which was a pleasant surprise,
But during the Olympics , every downtown brick and mortar business that wasn’t a sports bar or restaurant basically made almost no money for two weeks .

I remember a buddy telling me his GF worked at Holts and they had all these very serious staff meeting that no one was allowed time off during the Olympics cause they were going to be “so busy” . As the city had more than implied .
When the time came the actual reality was everyone was sent home early every day cause Holts was like a ghost town .
She told him you could have shot a cannon ball through the store and you still wouldn’t hit a soul .

Well that match was a real let down, as if Spain wasn't ass whopping Argentina enough I now know from this Cup 2026 that a team can go down to 10 players for the rest of the match. WTF rule is that. In Hockey the worst you get is a 5 minute major and thats the end. I thought the Spain player did a great acting job like he got shot out of a cannon.

Lol, red card rule has been around for how long.... U sound like trump complaining about it... You are aware he created a whole bunch of drama by meddling in the game to avoid their player being suspended for getting a red card..

That was a foul and that's on the player for a wreckless tackle while already being on 1 yellow card

Hockey also comes with 10minute game misconducts and an ejection and a possible suspenion

Maybe you should tuned into yesterdays game which in hockey was a barn burner

as one-sided as that game was Argentina damn near got it to the penalty shootout, and the Spain goalkeeper hadn't had to do much in 120 minutes
while the Argentine keeper was very much involved.

I missed watching the game in real time but got the replay on my PVR. The sheer dominance of the Spanish side was quite something to watch. I think the final SOG tally was 22 to 2 or something and the 2 for Argentina were in EXT time. As I was watching it and noting how chippy the Argentinians were getting as they got more and more frustrated I was thinking now if some of the other matches had these refs more fouls and yellow cards would have been given to Messi and crew and it would quite possibly have been a different team in the final ... but FIFA, corruption, etc etc. And yes that Argentina keeper was pretty outstanding. Kept them in the game as long as he did.

How about that absolutely adorable scene of the demented pedo thinking he was the overall winner. Just another instance that this waste of oxygen should be in a nursing home, medicated, in his diapers and waiting for the next serving of mashed potatoes and gravy.

the pedo who tried to high jack Spain's celebration and tryna pose during pictures.....
Even Infantino couldn’t drag him off the stage!
Pedoprez thought he was the center of attention.

Highlight for me was the Argy player walking right past him during the medal ceremony. Not even a look. Then hugging Sheinbaum and Carney.
