Yes, the gun is an inaminate object, but one that some folks can use to kill 20 innocent helpless children aged 4 to 10.

If this inaminate object in the hands of the wrong mind can end the lives of others, then its possession requires control.

Even healthy minds might, for a second, become disturbed by some traumatic or distressing event, and the inaminate object is perhaps too handy for this momentarily disturbed mind to do something completely out of character. It only takes anger or whatever. And some person is dead.

How do you measure the disturbed mind, especially if it appears for only short times, which may not be noticed by anyone? Life, once gone, is not recoverable. A dead person remains dead. How do you keep life safe and sacred? How do you safeguard against harmful use of the inaminate object?

In several US states now it is legal for gunowners to carry and display handguns openly while out and about, shopping, having a drink at the local bar, etc. How safe do folks feel in a bar at night with a crowd of gun-toting drinkers, perhaps some with their mental processes impaired and their irrational emotional responses loosened? Does this reveal the fact that the USA has not out-grown its wild west history?
In those several states with open carry what is the crime rate? Compare that to a city with high gun restrictions like Chicago(murder capital of the world).

You don't have home invasions in Texas, people own guns. Chicago, you cant legally own a gun unless you jump through 500 flamming hoops. Yet its murder capital of the world because criminals don't care what the law says, they'll carry a gun anyway.

You are just taking guns away from law abiding people, only thugs and criminals will have guns. And these law abiding people won't have anything to defend themselves with.

Lots of open carry places in the USA and no shootings.

Every "normal" gun owner is a stupid one in the making. Being a "stupid" gun owner does not remove them from the pool, all gun owners are gun owners, you can't selectively remove the ones you don't like to make the rest look good.
Punish everyone because they might do something wrong? Go move to N.Korea.

Please explain why crime goes up after gun bans like in the UK and Australia.

I lived in Houston, Texas for a few years. BC born and raised. I only fingered a guy once while driving for cutting me off when I first got there.

Well that was the only time cause he pulled out a gun and pointed it at me.

People informed me later never to look anybody in the eye and unless they actually cause an accident look straight ahead and ignore it.
Road rage and a gun ain't a good mix.

Oh and look both way when the light goes green people run reds like crazy down there.

Never owned a gun other than a red rider bb when I was a kid. Killed a bird and that was the last time I'd ever kill an animal. Still feel guilty about it.

#1. If I owned a gun, I would never talk about it on a faceless forum.
(All cops or personal minions of Vic Toews, please raise your hand)

#2. If I owned a gun, it would never be a registered weapon.
(Wouldn’t want the Police to be called because my music is too loud, check to see if I have a gun and give me the “Polish” treatment… You writing this all down Vic?)

#3. I think the real message is not about gun ownership so much as having the firepower to take out a neighbourhood.
(I’m surprised that no one has mentioned yet that on the same say as the Sandy Hook School murders, Dec 14/2012, a nut in China attacked and stabbed 22 school kids. As he had a knife rather than a gun, not a single kid died…. Your response NRA?)

#4. In a perfect world, no nut bars would ever be given a gun. Unfortunately, the Canadian definition of a nut bar is determined case by case by lawyers and the same “Experts” that let these nuts out and into our communities.
(It’s kinda funny that in Canada, the only people that are insane are currently facing charges and soon after dodging the jail time with an NCR, are once again sane and sitting beside you at Starbucks. Well, funny in a sick, twisted, cynical Canadian way that is)

And my personal favourite is the argument that everyone having a gun both protects the people from the Government and makes the streets safer. It’s not people with sawed off shotguns and pistols fighting the Syrian Army and taking out attack choppers, tanks and jets, it’s soldiers that defected with their weapons and other non-Personal safety arms being smuggled in. Safer streets, of course, everyone has a gun in Iraq and Afghanistan, two models of safe societies. Aren’t they both on the most desirable place to move list?

There is no reasons at all for granny to have a 60 round AR-15. It’s just a weapon waiting for someone to take it away from Granny and use it on her and/or someone else.

Besides, gunfire attracts Zombies, better off with a $25 Machete from Rona.

There is nothing quite like going out in the summer wearing your favourite mustard stained wife beater, beer in one hand, machete in the other and swinging at shrubs to keep the nosey neighbours, Jehovah’s and B.C. Hydro away. Damn you smart meters!
Totally stupid logic you have.

Using a lawless state like Iraq as an example of people with guns everywhere. Worst possible arguement ever. Typical anti-gun person with flawed facts and logic.

i've used and owned firearms all my life since adolescence, and was taught safe handling and marksmanship by my father when i was a kid

since then i've had to acquire a plethora of permits and licences and take courses to maintain my ownership of my firearms

all except 2 of the firearms are heirlooms that i keep for historical purposes

the 2 are my hunting rifle and shotgun, of which i use my shotgun now almost exclusively

in my youth i achieved many awards for marksmanship and shot competitively at the amateur level

i've hunted and i've killed animals; some for food but mostly for pest control purposes
Do you think becuase you can hold and own a gun (being human) makes it ok to kill things becuase they are a pest?
I can't imagine how hard it is for animals to survive these days with all the clear cutting, chemical producing, noise and light pollution we have. People like you make me sick. We have to learn to work with nature if we're ever going to survive for long but are race wont last and karma will get people like you.

right pardner

do you hear that sound? :violin:

that's the sound of the world's smallest violin playing, 'cry me a river...'

now move along sonny, i've got to get ready for when that pest karma comes a-visitin'

*** edit

by the way, you might want to clean up your spelling and get rid of the malapropism contained in your rant, then it might carry more weight with your target audience

me? i honestly don't give a shit what you do

cheers, vcc

Mental health and a culture where violence is glorified are more of a problem than a gun itself. I like shooting for fun, I look sexy doing it too. Just imagine summer day, cut offs, white tank top, sun beating down on my pale white glistening skin, arms straight as I aim a Desert Eagle. And yes, I can actually shoot it without hitting myself in the face.
Perhaps unintentionally, you may have just summed up a large part of the public safery risk.

I currently have a .22 rifle. However, I am considering buying a handgun this year, since a complete down of society is a matter of when...not if, it happens.
