The situation in BC sucks. Clearly, some of the roads will be closed for a long while, like the Coquihalla.

My family out there is already seeing empty shelves, no TP, meat/eggs etc. Don't be a fuckwad, buy only what you need, leave some for others. God forbid we all look out for one another.

ok, I will put the soapbox away for now.

May your family fair well. I have empathy for so many people experiencing real loss and hardship from these latest storms. People stuck, people flooded and displaced. A close relative can’t get home, but can’t get to stay with me either. Friends properties damaged or destroyed. Lives up-ended.

My heart ❤ goes out to all of you.

Stay safe out there! It looks damn scary.
Agriculture might take a long time to get back to normal.

After being evacuated due to a local fire this summer, we decided to stock up on 'non-perishable' food stuffs that did not require refrigeration or have short shelf lives. Cans of soup, boxes of dry biscuits, pasta etc. As long as our well produces water we can go several weeks without visiting the shops if we have to, although I must admit I did pop into town to 'hoard' some wine boxes yesterday, for medicinal purposes!

I have 200 head to ship towards you people…….and no way to get them there.
Every grocery store for 200 kilometres is empty, and today the snow is hitting hard and Ive heard there’s nothing but accidents, further clogging the few roads we have left.
On a brighter note….I have a landslide on my gravel road blocking access to my place, so nobody will be bothering me for at least a week.
Unless of course I get another stranded Hunter.

That's a fair amount of extra feed by the time you will be able to ship them. Hope the roads get cleared up quickly for you and everybody up north.

Option....Make friends with a logger to hitch the trailers and make a go on the Hurley Pass 😉. I know ...playing Russian roulette

Beautiful country we live in but can turn on us in a heart beat

That’s another thing….there’s a bit of a hay shortage.
If I keep them for another few months I’m screwed.

It's what I was computing . Thousands of pounds daily these days must cost quite a bit more than normal.

Hoping for hwy 3 to open up asap for you. Looks like the coquihalla will take weeks if not months

From what I'm seeing being posted on twitter, BC announcing gas rationing has had the opposite intended effect (people filling jerry cans, etc.). It seems like as soon as they mentioned rationing and told people not to panic...people panicked. I filled up yesterday, no lineups at all. Today, there was lineups down the block by the two gas stations I passed. I couldn't even get into the complex where my bank is, the lineup was blocking the entrance to the complex.

Everywhere in BC
As Joker said, "When the chips are down, these "civilized people"? They'll eat each other."

Even before the washouts, there was inflation, supply line issues, COVID, and simply this ridiculous cultural movement of everyone thinking they don't need to work for a living.....

Then when the roads start washing away, what's there to think about?....survival, pure and simple.

I agree things went overboard, it's not like trucks come in from Edmonton and Calgary, right? Still though, I don't fault anyone for panicking the way they did.

I personally think it's quite arrogant to assume every person on the planet need to share in the same Kumbaya sentiment. Because when the bottom truly falls out, and we're in The Great Depression 2.0.... you're going to wish you had that extra sack of flour that you tried fighting over in the grocery store the other day.

Was at Metrotown Superstore this morning. Saw only 3 cases of hoarding two couples buying 5 boxes diapers each (which I don't consider the worst scenario). Another guy bought ten packs of chicken backs (which i consider pretty bad).

The gas situation doesn't bother me. I don't have to drive anywhere so that it's considered critical.

This morning out picking up some lime to keep the moss back in the lawn, passing the gas stations on the way, the lineups were formidable.
Here all I want is to be able to have enough gas to get to my favourite SP's the next couple weeks.

it's laughable that the government expects people to be anything but the stupid, irrational morons that we are. Expecting "the honor system" to work is insane. Have the stations program the pump to shut off at 30 liters and don't allow multiple fills. Call a cop if you have to. Hell, get those volunteer constables to direct traffic and make sure no one is stupid.
