CBC tends to have a left leaning bias. You can check most worldwide news agencies on this website.
I believe a news agencies job should be report facts and not form a opinion/narrative. That should be reserved for people to do after looking at all facts. But unfortunately most media throughout the world tends to report news by adding their own opinions in it.
I personally support defunding the CBC until it loses its bias and reports straight facts without leaning in either direction. I don't want it to be influenced by the government thats in power (don't care if its liberal or conservative). You can not deny that when someone gets funding from someone else there would be some degree of bias and favouritism involved. Thats why I would rather it be independent and self sustainable and not be dependent on any government funding. It can still stay a public broadcaster but not be reliant on public funding. There are ways it can work to generate revenue to be atleast be cash flow neutral.
But on the other side of argument, I fully understand that remote areas of Canada only have CBC to rely on sometimes and that's I why I would rather put that funding in developing broadband/fiber internet or telecom connectivity in those areas so that the people there don't rely on one singular source. Instead they should be able to consume media from all around the world by being connected to internet. This does more good for them, opens up more opportunities, etc. I strongly believe that internet has lots of potential to offer so take the money away from CBC and invest it so all Canadians can benefit from being connected, improve education, entertainment, trade and whatnot.
A crown corp or public corp should not be running in losses and be dependent on bailouts. If its always running in loses then somethings are definitely wrong in the way its being operated and we shouldn't just always blame it on the fact that it has to serve entire country so loses are justified. We need to work to make it so that its atleast able to fund its own operation through other revenue channels. Solutions to this should be independent of which side of politics you lean on. Public entities are for public good but if they aren't able to deliver that public good without being a public burden then something needs to change.
