Have you ever driven a convertible? If you did, you might discover a love driving just for the sake of itself. I've owned a classic '67 convertible for years, and there's nothing quite like it! The very best memory was a roadtrip to Yosemite. With the top off, sunshine and 360 degree views...

Back in the very early days of aircraft, all tops were off. Nothing was enclosed. Pilots of the day both appreciated and bemoaned the advent of enclosed canopies. Out of the weather , yes. But no more of the grandness of flying with your scarf trailing in the wind! :cool:

Some sunny August day you should grab your favourite girl, rent a convertible manly Mustang (or whatever), pack the plaid blanket, wine and picnic basket, and drive to Whistler. Top down. See what happens! *

(*NOTE: I doubt you'll notice - or care - the difference in "performance" with the top off that machine)...!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is a chick car?

For cars that help pick up chicks it is any car/truck that makes it look like you got $$$.

So a Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Escalade....you get the idea. To make it really stand out, lower it and put some nice rims on it.

"Chick Car" is what someone says to you if they think that you drive something "gurlie". Even if you think it's cool, there's sometimes a popular opinion that such and such a style is "feminine", and a guy shouldn't be 'seen driving it'.

I agree, I don't care what people think, but it's interesting hearing the What-and-Why.
It's almost High School, how some people still think it matters. Amusing.

And so now the thread has also expanded into more opinions about car aspects...

1) Mazda Miata
2) VW Beetle (new)
3) Mid-Late 90's Mustangs (V6 variety only)
4) Austin-Mini (new)
5) Porsche Boxter
6) BMW Z3

No straight guy would be driving the first 2, the third only if it's V8, Austin-Mini's are cool old-school style across the pond - the new ones are just too yuppy, Porsche Boxters - if you have that kind of coin a guy would be driving even a base model Carrera, and Z3's... no power, no go, with the exception of the M3 Roadster.

1. Mini Cooper - if it was RWD then I would not put it here.
2. Pretty well any SUV - ladies like to ride high and feel like queens of the road.
3. SUBARU (excluding the WRX and STi) *esp. lesbians
4. VW Beetle, Eos or Rabbit
5. Any FWD, low powered box with wheels.

To those who think the Miata is a chick's car, I think it "looks" like one but it is a great driving car and really is a man's car. They have Spec Miata racing, and they are one of the best auto-x cars to buy. One of the best handling cars out there (definitely for the money). NO I do not have one but I would never put it on this list.

Funny, every time I drive around in mine and see some douche driving a huge POS truck I laugh too.

Oh, and chicks actually like my car. Trust me, they're not impressed by your big truck that looks exactly the same as the one the poser in the lane next to you has.

Here's my take. In no particular order:

Mazda Miata/MX-5
Mini Cooper (almost always base versions, not the "S")
VW Beetle
BMW Z3
Mercedes CLK
Mercedes SLK
VW Eos

From my own observations, more often than not, pulling up to one of these at a light, a girl will be behind the wheel.

I don't drive a Truck....I agree with you though, I generally dont like Truck Guy.

But being Miata Guy isn't any better.

The men I mostly see driving their cute Miata's are balding, mid life crisis men, who can't afford a real mid life crisis car.... like a Corvette or something.

Ya, I'm sure cruising in your Miata is a real chick magnet. Sure they like your car, they wish they had it so that THEY can drive it. There isn't anything wrong with driving and/or liking a Miatia, but dont kid yourself, It is definatly a chick car. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what people think about what you drive. What matters is how you like your car, and how you feel about it.

Suzuki Sidekick/Chevrolet Tracker/Geo Tracker/Asuna Sunrunner

I don't know how people can drive those, they're so fucking uncomfortable. They're boxy and spacious inside but the seat is far too low to the ground and the steering wheel is angled to far up, so I have to hold my legs above the level of the seat to hit the peddles and then my arms are at a fucked up angle to steer. Never will I drive one again!

when talking about the new mini, it's just the Mini. The Austin-Mini was a Mini made by Austin. The new Mini is made by BMW, who bought the rights for the name Mini.

The Mini has also been made by Rover.

I am a chick... and a little one at that! lol

I prefer the larger cars... the more macho the better. (but not into trucks.) I prefer V8s ;)
I always get the comment that my car does not look like it belongs to a girl! :D
