I have an old I phone and I am wondering what carrier, or place is best to buy a nano SIM card to use?
Obviously I don't want any personal info attached.

7-11 Speakout
i second that. I have been using one for last two years. Just walk in to any 7 11 and you have a working phone within five minutes. Usually they have a promotion that if you buy $100 worth of time, you get extra $25's worth more. Phones are not really that great, but they do the job.

The only way to go. The phone I got is an Acer and is actually pretty good. The time you buy is good for one year and carries on for another year if you add more time.

You can choose a no-data plan and stick to WiFi at places that don't require ID, such as Starbucks. (Don't use the WiFi at work or home because that could be traced.)

You can also choose a data plan, but that is minimum $10 per month if I remember correctly. All options are described if you go to the SpeakOut website.

Do you not have to give any personal information when signing up? Whys this any different than using your actual phone?

Cash is king! Buy the phone with the plan and pay cash, no names or numbers taken. Go to a pay phone or internet cafe and activate. There is no way to trace back to you.

No, you don't. 7.11 just takes the payment and hands you the phone. You insert the card and just dial the number and punch in the numbers to upload minutes. You can also do it online. I have signed up online to keep track of minutes etc. You do the same when recharging the phone. Just pay the cashier and they hand you a number that you dial to upload minutes.

I think only way you could be tracked is ip address if you use wifi.

Page 106 of the Spy's guide to office espionage recommends against using public access WiFi spots for transmission of sensitive information As Starbucks and public libraries and most places with public WiFi Will tend to have security cameras I remember when I got hired on at a fast food place the manager showed us How he could remotely use the camera system to focus on a single quarter in a cash register drawer . Lets not forget about the fact that most people today have a cell phone which has a built in mini video camera Using a public pay phone is a much better idea to activate the pre paid calling card . Even If someone does video tape you all they see is you pushing buttons on a phone holding a card .

Many burners don't require you to be on WiFi to add money they simply have a phone number and code you enter on a receipt you buy with cash.
And besides many places have WiFi you can log into while in another establishment next door or out in your car so they don't know where you are and are not inside their building.
From restaurants and motels, to museums and tourist information places.

Yes you can use the phone itself to activate minutes and no, you dont really need wifi to add money.

What you guys ar talking about is serious privacy as if we are committing serious crime. Personally speaking, I can't use my regular phone for this hobby because I am married and that's why I got a burner phone. I am not too worried about being video taped at a cafe or at a public spot or being under surveillance by cops. Seems like some of you take this privacy issue VERY seriously.

I don't really understand the need to pay cash ans use wifi to activate your phone. At the point that the police or your wife are going through your bank records or ip address to trace a phone you are screwed anyway. You should be careful but you aren't muling coke for a cartel so there is a limit.

Right on!
I think some guys get a little paranoid about this kind of thing.
You want to make sure the wife doesn't find out but as for LE, unless you are hiring underage or trafficked girls, LE has way bigger fish to catch than some guy paying to get laid.

Cheers

This may sound like a naive question, but...if I have an old Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, which is in a drawer that I haven't used in a couple of years since I upgraded to a new phone, can I use the old phone in the same manner?
Is there a way to get Speakout from 7-11, and use it with my.old phone?
Or, do I have to get a new burner phone and do it that way?
Yes, the old phone is/was in my name, but has not been in use for years. Is there a way for LE to track any ID from it?

Play it safe and spend the bucks on a new burner. All homes have a unique manufacturer's ID. May be traceable. Yes, I am paranoid.

Speak Out phone does come with a burner phone. They are not the best quality, but they do the job. You can save your old fone for emergencies.

You should be able to get a burner phone from any provider. Mine for example is Virgin. Unless things have changed they don't ask for name or i.d. Pick out a phone, pay for it in cash, and buy a $100 top up card. I've had mine for years.
