Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
I would hope anyone traveling by air right now would be taking all the necessary precautions but things like are concerning. Especially when the airlines recently announced they are removing the "empty seat" policy.
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/cana...ed-to-covid-19-in-july/ar-BB16M6i2?li=AAggNb9Hopefully all the passengers were contacted before this news release. Imagine how many people each of these passengers may have contacted in the past week since they go off their plane.
Cheers

People for the time being are somewhat leery of mass transportation, but give it a few months and a seat sale or cheap cruise/accommodation packages and people will be back to their old ways.
For the time being? Let's pray its for as long as covid is around without a vaccine, ok?
The........"but give it a few months", line is exactly why the states is in a shitshow right now.
I really doubt it will happen here, We "seem" to be learning our lesson but again, time will
tell.
And of course I'm praying for the latter, unlike what you said
with that last statement.

Let's see how leary people are gonna be when it comes time to putting kids back
in class come september. Now, that could be the shit show of all shit shows if they
haven't got a really good coherent plan for protecting people.
This IMO will be the straw that breaks the camels back if done carelessly.

It would make traveling and vacationing look like a joke.
Oh one other thing, Doc Bonnie is doing exactly what should be done, so it ain't rediculous.
The rediculous part dude comes if the idiots getting on the plane lie!!!

At least she's trying to protect people unlike that FUCKHEAD south of us who doesn't even
acknowledge without a slap in the back of the head that there is a covid virus out there
that he completely ignores and doesn't give a flying fuck about especially the 137,000 plus
dead people in the US. WTF?!?!
You should give Doc Bonnie a bit of credit.

By "...give it a few months...", I mean that people have a remarkably short memory and tend to get back to their old ways/activities rather quickly.

Take for example the previous epidemics/pandemics in the last two decades, or terrorism, etc. People vow not to travel again, go to certain regions, partake in certain activities. And then... after a few months people see a good deal on flights to West Africa (Ebola) or a deal on Mediterranean Cruises (Costa Concordia, or one of the various other viral illnesses that occasionally ran rampant on cruise ships), and suddenly you've got "asses in the seats".

Sure, for the time being the push is for people to vacation in their own backyard or explore Canada; but that option has always been available - and Canada has some pretty fucking spectacular places to go; and yet people leave in droves.
Your point is taken but there wasn't a worldwide pandemic happening at the time of those instances
you spoke of. For the most part they were Isolated to the areas mentioned. Cruise ships, same.
I still don't see people leaving here in droves with this covid happening as it's in their
faces moreso than a cruiseship virus or an ebola outbreak somewhere in the mediterranean that
they saw on television. Even saying that I doubt many people rushed off to an Ebola outbroken
country in the Mediterranean or west Africa anytime to soon until there is more of a handle on
this thing as it is a WORLD WIDE problem. So I can't see it happening here.
Just like now! It's been several months that covid has made itself known and people are still
being for (the most part), it seems pretty cautious here. Thank christ!!

Where I see people having the worst shortage of memories is when it comes to voting.
That's a topic for another thread in another forum though, like the idiot who just ripped off
the WE charity boondoggle scandel for $300,000.
His third scandel offence in his terms so far. Then offers up an apology to us Canadians
and then dishes out another $19 Billion dollars to try and smooth over the blunder.
What a wonderful man eh? I hope he trips and breaks his ankle.
That'll be payment for the $300,000 we'll never see come back or his ASS in a jail
cell for robbery.

Those are things people are most likely to forget than Covid, IMO.

To get this thread back on track, if you are thinking about coming to Canada, Health Canada has got people at major land crossings and there checking if you have a viable 14 day quarantine plan. Even essential workers have to provide contact information. If they catch you it’s a $1,000 fine and the 14 days starts over.

I would really like to get back to my home province of Ontario this summer for three weeks but do not want to cram my ass into a Boeing flying Sardine can and risk contracting Covid 19 - 21 (yes I am changing its name on the basis that it won't end until late 2021 and reserve the right to change it to 22)

The reason I won't get on a flying sardine can is that I have tried using a mask for a half hour meeting and found it suffocating enough and a 4 1/2 hour flight would likely result in my first ever panic attack.

Also I cough because I take blood pressure medications that have a coughing side effect. People freak out when someone coughs. I had a 7 Eleven store clerk refuse to serve me when I coughed coming up an aisle to the counter after taking a sip of my slurpee and although I covered my mouth he assumed the cough meant I had Covid-19. On a flight to Toronto, if the person sitting next to me had a couple of coughs, I would likely freak out like the store clerk did to me, so thinking similar reactions to my coughing on the plane will be numerous.

When I looked at flights earlier this week Air Canada has put notices of "No Refunds" beside the airfares ( every fare but business first class )

I also won't travel by air because of the chance that I will need to self isolate on the either side of the flight if someone has Covid-19. With my luck it would be on both ends of the round trip.

This really sucks and greedy airlines should not be getting away with packing people into planes like sardines in cans.

They should remove the middle seats and put shields in between. Raise the ticket prices accordingly and I will fly when they bring down the numbers on spreading covid. I would pay up to $700 on each side of the flight if it reduced the chance that I would be isolating when I arrive at my destinations.

By the way, I found a roundtrip ticket for as low as $320 on an Air Canada fare. That is just idiotic during this time. It is like using a lure to land as many wide mouth bass as they can and expecting a sardine can canoe to continue floating in the jet stream.

$1000 fine is a slap on the wrist, it should be $10,000. Seriously, who is going to quarantine themselves for 14 days when they travel to a different country. Once they leave the airport and check in a hotel, they will be sight seeing everywhere. Don't matter about the 14 days starting over, how many people will you infect by the time you get caught....

All this hard work that Canadians did to get colvid under control, is going to go out the window in the next month or two and we will all be back at phase 1 again. When they said they were going to shut the borders. They should be shutting all incoming flights into Canada, not just closing down the land border. Its a worldwide pandemic. Until the rest of the world gets it all contained and down to zero cases. We should all stay in our own country till then. Just my 2 cents.

So drive?
Sure 5 days there and 5 days back - driving 12 hours straight each day sounds like a great vacation.

Been there done that not wanting to do it again.

Leaves me 11 out of my 21 days of vacation back in Ontario

On the topic of feeling suffocated and having trouble breathing with a mask on...not all masks are created equal. Due to the high demand there are a lot of shoddy masks on the market. Some people will pass off absolute garbage to make a buck.

I found decent ones at Costco.

You do realize if you show up at the border and declare your reason for visiting Canada is for "site seeing" you will be turned away. Travel restrictions are in place and have not changed - it's basically essential travel only, Canadians returning, and a few other categories of people that are allowed to enter Canada, whether they try to enter via land or air. Not trying to call you out, but it's a little silly for you to state that we did all this hard work to get Covid under control, when that hard work included NOT shutting down borders (air or land) completely, and all of a sudden now we need to completely shut down our borders?!?!? So which one is it, did our efforts get this under control (our efforts including NOT completely shutting down borders and measly $1k fines) or do we need borders completely shut down and $10k fines because we don't have this under control? Clearly it can't be both.
All I was saying is that if you shut down the borders. You completely shut it down both land and air. Which should have been done from the beginning. Nothing coming in and nothing going out, unless you're Canadian citizen and need to get back. Still hundreds of people try and cross the border everyday and get turned away. I think its stupidity and ignorance when you are told you cannot cross over, yet they still " try". Americans were sneaking into BC to drive up to Alaska but they were just touring up here. One can always fly " direct ". 77,000 + cases down there and their leader has been overwhelmed and don't know what to do anymore. They had it down to 20k then the protests came out and everything after that went chaotic. We all hope that this will get better, but will take a year or two, or evem more to get back to normal.

Hundreds trying and getting turned away means it's working. And clearly these supposed Americans sneaking into BC (whatever those numbers may be) have not materially and negatively affected our Covid response/efforts - because like you said, we have worked hard to get this under control. Ignorance and stupidity for trying to cross into Canada is one thing, but it's equally ignorant to admit we have gotten this under control and still complain - and truthfully, I don't even know what you're complaining about. We have this under control - your words not mine - just be happy with that small win!

But you get an important message from the government when you cross the border:unsure::rolleyes:

This is a message from the Government of Canada. All travelers returning to Canada must self-isolate for 14 days by law. Once you arrive at your final destination, travel directly home - do not make stops. If you're experiencing sore throat, cough, or fever, report to a CBSA officer or contact public health officials. Don’t forget....they place a very stern phone call to your isolation location every second or third day.
They also ask if anyone is in the residence with you.....and if the answer is yes, they ask if your avoiding contact.
When the Government is told that you are sharing bathrooms, kitchens, and other living spaces with another citizen...they inform you to wash your hands on a regular basis.........There is no real enforcement.

When all this shit is over, everyone can just continue to stay six feet away from me.

Thats what I cant understand is why they shut down the land borders to all unesssential travel, minus the
border site see'ers who say they are going to alaska, and not shut down international flights arriving
here everyday from all over the world. What the hell is that all about and why is it allowed?

Air travel is under the same restrictions as land travel. Did you even read the article you posted? It goes to great pains to reiterate that international inbound flights into Canada are down. Can you not comprehend that it is possible for essential travelers (i.e. a Canadian or permanent resident returning to Canada) can actually require said traveler to return via an international flight? Can you not comprehend that Canadians are technically not required to stay in Canada (the article even mentions that point). International flights into Canada are limited to a very few airports in Canada (you know, so that they can more easily be screened by focusing in on a few airports as opposed to all airports). I haven't looked into the NavCan stats recently, but not that long ago, air traffic in Canada was down in the 70-75% neighbourhood. So to answer your question, those flights are allowed for the very same reason people may be able to drive through a land border, if they are deemed exempt (i.e. considered essential travelers) - is it really that hard for you to comprehend? Do you really believe that Canadians and/or essential travelers somehow only travel by car?

Yes, as someone way below the at-risk age with a healthy immune system, I'd be "freaking out" too if the person next to me coughed. My life was threatened before by those mild flu-like symptoms - hopefully never again.
