That reality is that border services are not applying the travel restrictions in a uniform manner - it does not mean there are different rules for car travel and air travel. The rules are the same - essential travel only (air or car). Your article highlights that there is a disconnect or ambiguity as to what certain border services agents deem as "essential." Saying nothing for the fact that a Canadian (such as the author of this article) was dealing with US BORDER OFFICIALS - you know, because he was entering the US. So your reality (and this article) is speaking to US border restrictions - because the US BORDER OFFICIALS are determining if this person can enter the US. Once this person (whom I assume is Canadian) tries to return to Canada, well, he/she (assuming he/she is Canadian or a permanent resident of Canada) will pretty much always be allowed back into Canada - subject to any covid conditions. So yes, it is confusing for travelers when said travelers receive different information from different border agents - but that doesn't mean there are different rule for different forms of travel!

What I’m not understanding is the influx of vehicles from the US. Every afternoon I’ve seen plates from California, Montana and this evening from Massachusetts. Obviously they are not transiting from US directly to Alaska.

I live in an area popular with hikers and mountain bikers from all over. Apparently these visitors are not taking COVID-19 seriously.

yes, it does, that's exactly what it means, as has been reported in the media in the last few days

you can fly to the US, but you can't drive across the border

FFS Air Canada is promoting it, lol

It’s a Canadian problem as, driving from southern Ontario to Winnipeg there’s a huge number of Alberta and BC license plates. A lot of USA plates as well.

Rather a different story, as there aren't travel restrictions in place for interprovincial travel. As a matter of fact, I recall that interprovincial travel is being promoted rather heavily this year, as an alternative to the largely non-existent international travel many Canadians seem to flock towards. The same goes for travelling in one's province of residence...

Apparently the RCMP has been cracking down on Americans "going sightseeing", when they're supposed to be going direct to/from Alaska - fines being issued. Thing is, there's only so many cops; and more often than not they've got better things to do than trying to catch sightseers.
Many provinces still have 14 day quarantine requirements and I believe The Atlantic provinces still have travel restrictions.

When I stated there is no difference between air and land travel restrictions, I was speaking to Canadian travel restrictions (i.e. restrictions on those ENTERING Canada). You (I'm assuming) are speaking to US travel restrictions (i.e. restrictions on those ENTERING the US) - because when you travel to the US, the traveler would be subject to US restrictions, NOT Canada's! Do you see the difference?

The beautiful Fraser Valley !

To get this thread back on track, if you are thinking about coming to Canada, Health Canada has got people at major land crossings and there checking if you have a viable 14 day quarantine plan. Even essential workers have to provide contact information. If they catch you it’s a $1,000 fine and the 14 days starts over.

Officials are now, just starting to look at clamping down on the Campers in Peace Arch Park in BC .
And I don't think anybody has been officially monitoring People following the Quarantining Laws ? ?
