A big trend in Calgary is:
Calgary - Home of the worst drivers in Canada. I drive a BMW, but some days I wish I drove a tank.

Obviously Scotty you have not spent much time behind the wheel in Vancouver. Between the tourists, Starbucks addicts, people who can't steer and talk at the same time, new drivers and kids whose parents bought them a hot car that they have no idea what to do with, every day is RR day! And that is just duing the week. God help anyone who asks me to drive on a weekend when all those fools want to actually stop at every strip mall, which is of course on the other side of the street.
Maybe even world's worst drivers? Chalk up another one for Vancouver City.

I just got creamed tonight by a frickin' newbie driver who thought she could roll through a stop sign, gun the engine with pedal to the metal and cross a major road from a side street before I hit that intersection. Ummm...no fuking way in the type of car she was driving. If it wasn't for me swerving, pulling a hard left and taking the brunt of the impact myself as the cars got T-boned, she woulda been everything else other than walking away without a scratch.

As for me, what was supposed to be a quiet night with some downtime ended up with a fukked back, a sore shoulder from a hard but effective pull from the seat belt and a kinked neck. Airbags worked just fine as well to keep my noggin from introducing itself to the windshield. My car was totalled and is pretty much a write-off. Somewhere in the mess as I crawled from a smoky car out onto one knee, I was assisted over to the sidewalk by three very kind, very attractive young ladies (yes, I was hurt but I ain't blind  ) on their way downtown as I could barely move on my shaking legs. By the way, not a single vehicle stopped to help except for these girls. If my head wasn't spinning so much at the time, I would've been even more appreciative of that small act of kindness that seems to be so rare these days.

So three ambulances and a fire truck later, even more fukkin' unbelievable were the number of cars that kept going at full tilt past the accident scene. And the moron in the sports car that got stuck behind the tow truck later, peels out in front of another car to go around, and floors it, nearly causing another accident! Wow, was he ever one special Asshat!

Just to top it all off, I was supposed to be leaving Vancouver in two days. I guess I have to deal with ICBC now, so I'm wondering how much fun that is. There was no police accident report as they didn't deem it necessary without major or life-threatening injuries. Given that I am leaving Vancouver, is there some way that I can arrange for this to be taken care of in my absence or can I designate someone to act on my behalf? If anyone has any advice, comments, ideas, please let me know.

Sorry to hear that GG....that sucks big time.
Hopefully icbc does not screw you too badly.

I guess in your state of shock you likely did not score any numbers from the 3 gals either huh.

Kind of a double blow last night.;)

Seriously though if icbc decides to be a real asshole as they often do, hire a lawyer and take no shit from them.
it was 100% her fault, and you deserve fair treatment.
Been there done that, and should have bought the fucking T-shirt.

as far as icbc, the accident sounds fairly straight forward, there shouldnt be any dispute. but regarding compensation for temp. loss of enjoyment of life (i assume you didnt poon right after the accident), i would call an injury lawyer asap to find out your options - at the very least, you have a legal entity here to handle your correspondences with icbc while you are away.

In-car cameras pointing out the windshield like the ones cops have should be mandatory, with a window for data like GPS and speed.
The idiot you hit is going to say she looked both ways and proceeded through the intersection carefully at a reasonable speed. She will say that you were driving way too fast, and everything is your fault.
I saw an almost identical accident at Fraser and 28th a couple of years ago, a geezer with a dog on his lap rolled through the stop sign and almost ran me over as I walked along Fraser. He drove right across Fraser without looking either way and got broadsided on the passenger side by a beautiful new Benz with three Chinese guys. The guy driving the Benz was actually pretty cool (I would have flipped out) and they all ran around to the driver's side to see if the geezer was okay.
The guy gets out, still with the dog in his arms and cigarette dangling out of his mouth and starts swearing at them! Wants to know how they got into the country, how a chinaman shouldn't be driving like they do back home, all that sort of trash. If I'd had it on tape a judge would have thrown the book at him.
But when it came to court he tried to say he was the victim of three hooligans street racing.

You could make the arguement that Vancouver has Canada's worst drivers.

But if you think we have the worst in the world, they you haven't travelled to very many other countries around the world. There are cities with drivers many times worse than Vancouver's.

Sorry to read about that GG. Do consult with a lawyer, and do get your doctor to check you out. What seems like just a little kinked neck now could come back to trouble you down the road. You need people on your side when you're dealing with ICBC. Speaking from bitter experience.

Hey GG, did you get a chance to copy down the personal information from the witnesses? Did those three chicks see the accident? As long as you have witnesses on your side, you should be set for winning the case. I wish you a speedy recovery.

That is unbelievable, seeing as every accident scene in Van that I have ever encountered, people tend to slow to a trickle so they can see WTF is happening.

Same thing on Deerfoot in Calgary. Doesn't help that Calgary is the home of photo radar. Now it doesn't matter what it is parked on the side of the road, people will slow down thinking its a radar trap. Not just slow down to the limit, but slow down to about 70km in a 100km zone. Then they wonder why the big Kenworth behind them rams them up the ass with a 30km impact sending their car flying into other lanes of cars on Deerfoot. I think a lot of these idiots think a Kenworth tuggin a loaded trailer down Deerfoot can stop on a dime.
New drivers scare the shit out of me. I think CAA driving school teaches them to drive with their eyes closed, and shoulder checking is only needed if the sun is in the right position, while the wind blows from the NE at 7km an hour.
Signal lights are an option on cars in Calgary. They aren't manditory. Only 50% of all cars in Calgary came with signal lights. Of the 50% that have signal lights 25% use them.
I still think GG was reading porno while driving, and had he not been opening the centerfold, he would have seen the other driver.:D

GG if you have wipe-outs with hot babes and it happens to be her fault, this technique may work to "just call it even"

First QM, then you - who's gonna be the third one? Hope you have witnesses, witnesses, witnesses. Your word means nothing if she decides to duck responsibility by lying. Happened to me. Woman ran a stop sign and hit me almost head on. She claimed I was speeding and she had stopped and the collision happened because I wasn't paying attention. Luckily for me I had two witnesses that saw her run the sign. She didn't suffer any penalty for lying, so it's woth it for people to lie and maybe get away with it.
