Hey, if two guys want to bang each other up the ass that's their fucking problem but if two queers can get married, why can't I legally marry 3 or 4 women who have made the decision to do so on their own free will? If gay marriage is legal, polygamy should be.

I could care less if they are gay and are cops and want to marry. It's their biz. They wished that it wouldn't have turned into a media blitz, and I would agree with that wish wholeheartedly. Frankly that they are gay... who the hell cares. I'd just as soon rather not have seen it in the news because I find it personally distasteful but it's their personal business and not the country's or for that matter mine.
Anyhow, due to the way gay men have portrayed themselves as limp wristed, or overly macho girlies, or flighty and temperamental, or bimbonic, or overly sensitive and flamboyant, or leather perverts, or fruitcakes, I find it tarnishes the image of the RCMP as strong, reserved, dutiful, and enforcers of peace and the law. But it's up to the RCMP to be responsible for their image, and if they wish to tarnish it by hiring girly-boys, that's their problem.

Their marriage affects my life in no way whatsoever, so as far as I'm concerned they have every right to do it. I expect, in return, that they will keep their noses out of my personal life.
Being mounties is something they have in common, so wearing their uniforms probably meant something to them. Fine by me.
Who knows whether the two principals initiated or wanted the media blitz? I rather suspect it was an easy time-filler that saved our illustrious news types from having to go and do some real work on something important.
As to the police hiring "girly-boys", there've undoubtedly been homosexuals in the RCMP since its inception, just as there have been in armies and in every other aspect of life. The only thing that's changed is, they can be open about it now, though I suspect that being out in the open still takes a fair bit of courage. I figure things that are out in the open are a whole lot less likely to cause trouble than things that are hidden.
