Alternative to Backpage
There was some comment above about not using Backpage. Probably not a good or necessary short term option but long term it soulds like a great idea. Backpage is a vulnerable target for the prohibitionists and someone at Backpage is making millions a month at the expense of workers and clients.
I have been told a Canadian replacement should cost about $50,000 to design, half a year's work over two years.
As I see it, the ads would cost $1.00 each rather than $5.00 each and every year or so any surplus profit would go back to those who placed ads, in the form of credit for more ads, in other words, free ads.
It would be a cooperative venture directed by the people posting the ads. Backpage would respond by offering free ads in an attempt to put the coop service out of business. The coop response would be to distribute the service or the software globally.
Just an idea to keep in mind while we deal with the current changes.
An advertiser directed service would also eliminate the offensive declaration that you are not offering sexual services and there would be no temptation to check out the garage sales while you are on the site.
