Apparently mass emails are being sent out again throughout the industry claiming that they hacked into TERB and stole every ones IP address. I assure you no such thing has happened. Things must be slow over there for them to spark up some drama again. We wont get dragged into that gutter. Those of you who are also members of that board or correspond by email to anyone else in this industry with your email, please be advised. Please do not post their rubbish in this forum. Thanks

I refuse and will never join that site:nono:. Several years ago when 2 other lower mainland boards WERE in existence, I recall hearing horror stories about that board. Good thing I never joined. Its baffling why anyone would still hang out there knowing the stories circulating about that site :noidea::crazy:

Perb, Eros and to a small degree Leo List, is all that is needed For Vancouver and Vicinity. If ever in Toronto, then its Terb. Might as well stick with the best and go with Certainty :thumb:

Yes I got one of those even though I am not a member of that train wreck and they still emailed me lol. Correct me if I am wrong but even for the people that are or were members I think every time I restart my modem I get a new IP address? I restart it often because things can get a little slow and messed up. Probably monthly. What much could they do with my IP address other than know my provider and region I live??

I feel like responding with "Go ahead, I don't give a flying **** " but that would just put me on their radar.

With Shaw (for the example) it takes a few hours for your IP lease to expire. So just restarting the modem won't necessarily change it. Leaving it off overnight is more likely to.

You can confirm it changed just by typing "what's my IP address" in Google and see whether the answer changes from before.

I moved at the beginning of the summer. Took my shaw modem with me etc.
It took shaw like close to 10 days to install and hook up cable at new digs.
I assumed different location, new IP Address.
The tech said no. Same IP address with same modem.
This is just what i was told.

Shaw's cable modems do release their IP eventually, but they need to be off/unplugged for more like a week. I have tried it myself a few times, when leaving for the weekend it stayed the same when I restarted it, but when I hit the beach for 10 days, it was a new IP address. To be safe, anyone using that site should always use a VPN, although they do routinely block all TOR/Onion IPs.

The main issue is that the board owner is more than a little insane and addicted to drama. He routinely pits his moderators and admins against one another and if the drama isn't enough, he pulls stunts like that ones noted above. He's spoofed Fred's email more than a few times, pretending to be him, giving bogus warnings and attempting to harm TERB's reputation. You can be 100% assured that your PMs over there are not safe/secure, and you should NEVER use the same password/email combo there as you do here, and especially not the same password you use for your email account, unless you want to be hacked.

With Chase threatening that and admitting to having information he should not have access to, couldn't we just report him to the authorities?

So why not allow discussion on this if only to shut down Chase? Exactly how does sticking your head in the sand fix the problem? You've got the owner of a rival forum hell bent on destroying you so stand up and share what's he's doing and let it be public. That's how you educate people. In the world of hacking we "shine the light on the cockroaches".

If someone supports him, don't allow him or her...on these forums. Make it clear. You've got that power. Hiding in the bushes does nothing.
I don't believe we have any Chase supporters here, that board is pretty much universally condemned, except by the cretins who post there. We have brought people's attention to the fake, and just don't want to give him any more airtime than he deserves. It's Jess's call, but I support not becoming a sp411 discussion zone.

We have had individuals and groups like this in the past and we will likely continue to have them in the future.
There have been many implied threats over the years. Nothing has come of the threats for two reasons:
1. We have an excellent core of motivated, honest members. (In a way, you all act as moderators and help us do our jobs)
2. This site is regularly maintained and updated. There was a hack 2-3 years I ago, I believe. But, Fred Zed and technical staff got us back up and running in short order.

What is the official PERB policy on ip logging?
Not sure what you mean by that, but the Vbulletin software logs the IP of every registration and post. We use this information for catching multiple accounts, verifying location and other admin issues. Those IP addresses are confidential and not shared with anyone. Our site is hosted overseas and kept as secure as the tech guys can make it. Unlike other forums, who have had many issues with hackers, PERB has been fairly free of those issues, touch wood.

...In the world of hacking we "shine the light on the cockroaches"...
I find this quote funny. Hackers shine the light? I always though they hid like coach roaches behind every proxy server, hacked in personal PC, or whatever they can find to mask their identity. They seem more like coach roaches to me.
