Yet another school shooting today. I am sick and tired of the first words are always "thoughts and prayers" when they should be saying "let's fix this crazy shit right now".

I like to have the news on while I work but just can't listen to this continual travesty in the USA. Surely there is a way of keeping weapons out of the hands of those who should never have one, ban the components to make a legal weapon an automatic weapon, make military grade weapons only available to LEO and Military and have a decent screening process to actually make everyone safe.

This is a snopes link because gun owners and those wanting gun control can't even agree on the actual number of school shootings in 2018.

Current as of February 2018.

It is sickening beyond words. I am a father and consider myself lucky that I am not living in Unstable State Of America (Sorry golferjohn).

Seriously ... this has got to stop ... too bad arms industry and gun manufacturers don't see it that way. While breakfast gets stuck in my throat when I watch these news, somewhere in a big mansion, owner of gun manufacturing factory sips his coffee, reads the newspaper and grins.

Guys are going to call me crazy but I'm going to say it anyway. I'm beginning to think these U.S. mass shootings are intentional and are being caused by the U.S. government. I think it is an extension of the mind control experiments, such as MKUltra, that the government has been experimenting with for decades. I'll just let this sit here and people can gnaw on it at their leisure.

If the mass murder of children at an elementary school (Newtown) wasn't enough to force change; there is no hope.
Nothing is learned and nothing is addressed.
Same old rhetoric will surely be blathered about.
Might as well just resurrect the other threads on the subject. https://perb.cc/vbulletin/showthrea...blem-Explained-in-18-Charts&highlight=florida

Hard to even give a fuck anymore. Go ahead, USA- shoot yourselves into oblivion.
This is what comes of a stubborn gun culture wrapped around the 2nd amendment- which, by the way, was never intended to assume the present conditions.
And I say this with all due respect to my American friends and family and the millions of other innocents that will continue to be randomly slaughtered.

All of these school shootings in the US sure make that lady at Tim Horton's look quaint.

Yeah, don't care anymore. Let the circle jerk go on and on and on.

There are other countries to move to is all I have to say about America's love affair with guns.

It's not the guns, it's the doors!

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick says there are too many entrances and exits to schools, and that is why shootings are able to happen. "Had there been one single entrance possibly for every student, maybe he would have been stopped."
Of course, several doors comes in handy if there's a fire.

It's almost like these Republicans are all retarded.

Nah, I don't think so. Think "Occam's Razor" - given a range of potential hypothesis, the simplest one is most often correct.

Mass shootings/killings have happened throughout history, but certainly not to the current degree. A more likely scenario is based on what Malcolm Gladwell discusses (in "Tipping Point", I believe): one event occurs, then others copy-cat (maybe not immediately, but over time) because they are aware of the first incident and see that as an option for what ails them. The increase in internet and media coverage empowers it, not the govt.

(I've worked for govt's and, trust me, they're ALMOST never that smart or tight!)

The funny thing about whacky conspiracy theories is they already operate on the premise that there are amoral sociopaths who sadistically play god and toy with the lives of others, but for some reason they are convinced that these people are in government offices pulling strings from afar, but somehow never are the people shopping in the local gun shop.

As I noted in a previous thread it would be enlightening for many to read up on the 2nd amendment to really understand how archaic it is when it comes to modern times.
It mostly says it is constitutional for a militia (of the people) to arm themselves against government oppression. Seemed fairly reasonable 240 years ago.
If you really want to make a stretch argument then it should be OK to own any manner of weapon to keep up with technology and governmental firepower. RPGs? Armoured Assault Vehicles? Attack helicopters and Stealth Fighters? Nuke up, Cletis, you slack-jawed inbred motherfucker! Fair is fair, right?
Lunacy at it's finest.
Would be political suicide, but if Trump wants to win the Nobel Peace Prize and leave the ultimate Presidential legacy he gets out a Sharpie and strokes #2 right the fuck off the page.

I know my thoughts are way out there... But... but it is well documented that sociopaths are drawn to and become politicians and leaders of big industry, ceo's, etc.... Far more so than sociopathy in the general population. When it comes to the U.S. and conspiracy theories I fell down the rabbitt hole years ago and just have no way back. Don't get me started on 911 and the Bush administration.

Almost???? As another example I recently saw this: 'I just read an article in which Republican member Rep. Mo Brooks, a member of U.S. House of Representatives Science, Space and Technology Committee is quoted as saying yesterday that 'erosion plays a significant role in sea-level rise' . He also said 'the California coastline and the White Cliffs of Dover tumble into the sea every year, and that contributes to sea-level rise'.

???? How on earth can such an ignoramus be a member of U.S. House of Representatives Science, Space and Technology Committee??????

I have to be very careful when posting on subjects like this......I will say this.
The amount of weapons in the hands of US citizens is staggering....they are to far gone to ever get real control over it.

My heart goes out to the fallen, in this instance......and all the other senseless shootings in schools.
To the children, and their families.....my heart weeps for them , and their horrific loss.

Well one way for the congressmen and senators to take notice is to start shooting congressmen and senators. The more you shoot, the faster the laws will change... Remember these elected officials only do what is in their best interests.
Probably not a good idea to do that shooting in Washington, too much security.....

Now if I would have said that.......I would be taking another vacation.....hypothetically.

The argument for the second amendment is that you arm yourself to protect against the tyranny of the government.

If the government came after you, they have at their disposal, Predator drones armed with Hellfire missiles, controlled and directed by Joint STARS. Apache gunships. A-10 Thunderbolts. Good luck defending against that with an AR-15.

There is a contingent of 2nd Amendmenters that acknowledge this and use it as a starting point to argue they should be allowed to have all these things too.
