i think scotiabank is going to be eating a big ole healthy helping of crow on this one. i have deposited some sizeable cheques from time to time, and have simply had them put on hold until the funds cleared the banking system. no fuss, no muss, and certainly no police

regarding canada's treatment of first nations - the next time you find yourself thinking or saying, 'the government should manage xyz for us,' well think about most of the first nations and where they're at... THAT is government fiscal management at its best. they've had how many centuries to get it right?

Even in the big cities, there's a lot of animosity directed towards native people.
People no longer say it to people's faces, but in private conversation, it gets expressed.

Canadians in general are THE most welcoming people to all individuals (singles, couples, families) who are well behaved.
Large groups or congregations who behave 'badly' in the terms of Canadian Society: noisy, unruly, threatening, breaking laws (even minor ones) will be discriminated against.
If this unruly group just happens to be some kind of visible minority, well then there's a problem that 'the group' and 'the media' like to play up... Why? Because they can, and it's good for ratings!

Personally, if I hear somebody complaining with any kind of a non-traditional accent or look or name, anything they must be carefully evaluated...
For example: if a complainer looks or sounds foreign, I judge the thing he's complaining about as if it were in his home country, and frankly he should be happy he can whine at all. In the absence of facts, one should always assume the worst (which is the opposite of Canadian thinking, we usually give the benefit of the doubt) cuz most foreigners have learned that omitting the more incriminating facts makes them look more 'hard done-by', and when we later find out 'the whole story', we might then 'write-off' their whole race, unfortunately...
Banks treat everybody shitty (were the tellers white? or 'other' like at my bank) and are liable for any mistakes... The guy coulda just used a machine or photo-deposit; if he was a young-looking white guy with tattoos wearing a hoodie he'd probably have problems too!

Get out of the urban areas and the multi-cultural cities and racism is pretty bad in Canada. I have a buddy who's Portuguese by way of South Africa...and apparently he's not white enough for his Abbotsford neighbors. Canadians love to throw around that "tolerance" word a lot. What that word literally means is that you're "putting up with things/people that are different" and that if you had your way, you'd rather not put up with it. Geez that really makes immigrants want to be a part of the community

If we had the same gun culture as the U.S. has, we'd probably be seeing more shootings like Ferguson, MO. I don't think we're any better/worse than our American neighbors. There's just not as many black people in Canada so the incidents are lower.

Sure this country is racist. You hear it in people who talk about First Nations citizens all the time when they think they are amongst "like minded people". They assume each and every one of them are lazy, unintelligent, unrefined, and below them.

I also worked for both RBC and TD bank in credit departments. When credit applications are submitted to them and entered into their automatic credit scoring systems, if the system detects that an applicant lives on a reserve it is considered "remote" and the application will be automatically declined.

Now, I understand logically all the reasons why a debtor that lives on a reserve causes a creditor problems. However these are the types of structural barriers that cause First Nations citizens problems at almost every turn in life.

all these reasons relate directly to the 'Indian Act', and therefore indirectly to 'Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada'

these problems will not go away until natives are allowed to own real estate 'fee simple'

this will not likely happen in our lifetime for the majority of natives, becuase the beaurocrats (and chiefs) have too much invested in the current 'indian reserve' model

One of my co-workers is about the most racist guys I have ever known, but he is very careful about hiding it. He sucks up to our black manager but calls him a monkey behind his back. Has similar names for everyone else.

His kid has ADD and is always in trouble at school, and one day this guy was whining about the other kids teasing his kid for being different.

Karma.

For sure, sad to say the current system is totally fucked. Look at the shitstorm over transparency in treaty funds allocation. The only solution IMO is tear up all the treaties and assimilate everyone. That might sound bad but it would be better than the current situation.

It will never happen because like you say, too many people have their fingers in the pie.

Cannot happen. Not because of the issue at hand, but because to do so would require a constitutional amendment which is politically impossible because of the insistence of other issues being addressed as part of any opening up of that can of worms. And, of course, people like Hitler & Stalin tear up treaties and occupy people's lands. Sort of a non-starter under international law as well....

So dead idea. I guess we'll just have to work with First nations to try and make things better. It may be difficult, but at least it's legal.
You can't make things better within the reserve system. Middle class wealth in this country is dependent on a functioning economy and private property rights. Any welfare enclave with no economic base is always going to be impoverished and swamped with social problems.

I am not Racist...I HATE all assholes equally....I dont care if they are WOPS/NIGGERS/KYKES/WASPS...I just dont fucking care...if they are ASSHOLES then it does not matter what their skin color is nor their religious leanings.

Try living next to an ASSHOLE(does not matter the race/religion) and you get an idea from my perspective.

Best example I can give through direct connection was a family of First Nations that moved in next door to me.They squeezed 4 kids and 2 parents and a grandmother into a 2 bedroom home. The kids terrororized the neighborhood with break ins and wreckless vandalism( even broke into a guys garage and trashed his vintage restored 1960's Camaro) and all the while they trashed the place they were renting so bad it needed a total renovation after they skipped on 2 months rent.

People like that are ASSHOLES...to be given no decency or leniency...does not matter the color of their skin or any religious stuff....ASSHOLES are ASSHOLES.....and they are good for SHIT.
